Season One. Chapter 3

Curiosity had gotten the better of Sebastian. He was not sure why, but it was that strange feeling. Maybe he knew deep down that there was something special about that girl. It was New Years Eve and the pack had a big party planned, they always did. Not only did their pack host a party, but other packs were invited to join. In fact, boarding the Redmoon Pack was the Halfmoon Park, the children of the two packs shared the same school, set in the middle of them both. They were allies but there was always still the tension at times. Redmoon pack were one of the largest packs in Australia, strong and always helping protect others. They did not always hold the title of their largest pack, but over the years they had grown. When other packs were attacked, they would come to their lands to resettle because their lands had been taken. Halfmoon pack, they were half the size of Redmoon, but they were always building as well and when needed the two came together to fight common enemies, so on celebrations they came together as well. So, the packs were busy putting decorations up, preparing food and getting excited for the celebration. This gave Sebastian the time that he needed, he wanted to know what was going on. He had asked his father a couple of times, but he was not told much. All Sebastian knew was they still were holding that Adira girl prisoner. Two weeks now, which to him, seemed a long time to be trying to get information out of somebody. As the future Alpha, Sebastian wanted to know what was really going on, so he could learn and see if there was anything needed to change. Two weeks seemed like a long time for something not to change, well that was what he thought, but he needed to know why first, why nothing had changed. He reached the prison, along with his friends and spoke to the desk guard. Being the Alpha’s son they did not refuse to allow him access and so Sebastian, with Maximus next to him, headed down the stairs, reaching the heavy door. The guard there let them through and they walked down the hall to the room with two more guards. There were glances between them and then they stepped forward. “Sorry Mr VanDawood, Beta Luke is inside and nobody is allowed access.” One guard said. “Are you denying your future Alpha access?” Sebastian asked annoyed. “It was orders.” The other spoke. “And I order you to let me in that cell.” Sebastian said, Alpha toned. Both guards bowed their heads a little and stepped back. They could not refuse, not now that Sebastian had used such a tone. He was born to be an Alpha and making requests or demands were a natural thing for him to do and use his tones. The guards had no other option but to comply. They watched as Sebastian opened the door and walked into the room. Walking in, he found the light was on, and as they said Beta Luke was in the cell with the young girl. She was no longer chained up standing and hanging there. Sebastian was stunned shocked though, as he saw Beta Luke turn around and look at him and the others, shocked himself that they had arrived. Sebastian saw he was holding a glass of water and his eyes flickered to the shape on the ground. The girl, Adira was laying on the ground. Her eyes were closed, the clothing battered and barely hanging on and she had more marks on her body then what she had arrived with. There was no doubting what had transpired in that cell. They wanted the truth, they wanted information, and it was clear she was not giving them anything. “What happened.” Maximus ask his father also shocked. “It seems she could not stay strong forever.” Beta Luke stated. “When she was questioned last night, she collapsed and passed out. I came to check on her, still nothing.” “And you think water is going to help?” Sebastian asked, annoyed. “What were you hoping, like in movies, splash her with water and she will wake?” He was mad and it was clear in his tone and his voice. He stepped forward and even though he was not the actual Alpha yet and Beta Luke was technically higher ranking, the energy he was emitting was so strong that Beta Luke did not stop him from taking the glass from the hand. Sebastian took the glass in a snatching way and walked over, throwing the water at the girl. Nothing happened and he stepped back to where Beta Luke was still standing and had not moved, placing the glass back in his hand. “It does not work like that. Did anyone actually call the pack doctor to check her over?” he asked. “No.” Beta Luke answered in a whisper. “Well, why the f**k are you still standing here Beta Luke?” Sebastian growled. Without delaying any further, the man turned quickly and rushed out, obviously going up to the higher level to mind link in. Without saying anything, Maximus walked to the door as well, putting his head out and asking the guard there for more water and a cloth. Sebastian was glad, it had been his thoughts as well and this was why Sebastian would be asking Maximus to be his Beta once he was the Alpha. His friend was learning the ways already, but due to their friendship, their understanding of each other was much more then a Beta and Alpha pair normally have. As Maximus was walking back into the cell, Sebastian was moving closer to the young girl. Her face was soaked because of him throwing the glass of water at her, hair sticking to her face now. He had not done it to be mean to her, but to prove his point, that while Beta Luke had tried to help, he was going about it in the wrong way. He was disappointed though, to see the state the girl was in. Yes, it was troubling that she had come into their lands, fought some guards, and worse, smelt like Vampire. However, it was clear that she had been tormented in the attempt to get the truth out of her. Sebastian bent down next to the girl, he took his top off and used it to wipe away the dirt and blood on her face. She had a couple of cuts to her lips, her skin was very pale, bruises to her cheeks and jaw and some cuts on her brows. Under it all, Sebastian could see she was a very pretty looking girl. She was still a child and she still had to grow up, but it was clear she was going to be a very stunning woman. Oddly, at the thought of that, he felt his stomach do a slight flip. He frowned. He did not have the pull to her like a mate bond, but he felt something. He could not explain it and all of a sudden he felt like he needed to know more. Maybe… if she gained their trust, maybe she would give them the answers they wanted. Could he do it? Would his father accept? He had to try, because he could no longer see her being left in the cells like this. By the time that Beta Luke was returning, so was the guard, with a large bowel of water and a cloth. He placed it on the ground and quickly stepped out. Sebastian soaked the cloth and continued to clean Adira, knowing it was easier for their pack doctor to check her if she was not covered in blood or dirt. “How much has she said, considering how far you have beaten into her.” Sebastian asked. “Her story has not changed.” Beta Luke sighed. “Do you think she is lying?” Maximus asked stepped forward to his father. “I think… her words are truth… but I think… there is more she does not speak.” He stated. “I want a word with my father.” Sebastian stated. Nothing more was said, Maximus knew what he needed to do and he walked out of the cell straight away. Moment later Doctor Shelt arrived carrying a heavy bag with him. He glanced at Sebastian and Beta Luke curiously for a moment and then not asking questions, started to open a bag and pulled out a stethoscope, ends to the ears and the other against the girls body. First her chest, second her back. He said nothing, did not react and Sebastian knew he was trying to mask his thoughts for the time being. Standing in silence while Doctor Shelt checked the girl, Sebastian glanced at Beta Luke. He was a kind man, loved his children and wife Sam. He was a strong wolf and he was very politically smart. He and Alpha Gabriel had been friends for many years, just like their sons were now. Sebastian knew that he was no fan of beating a girl so young for answers, what if she was his own daughter. However, being ordered by the Alpha meant he could not refuse and had to do as he could to get answers. It was sad, but that was how leadership worked. “I need to take her to the Park Hospital.” Doctor Shelt explained with a sigh. “Before she arrived… two weeks ago… she already had broken ribs, cuts and bruises, broken ankle and dislocated knee. Since, she had now got a dislocated shoulder, head trauma and a few more broken ribs. Her healing… is not activating and to me… it looks like she had been malnourished and dehydrated… and signs of wolfbane in her system.” “Wolfbane!” Beta Luke gasped. “It is slowing the healing. She has never shifted, so she already is weak from that.” Doctor Shelt confirmed. “I smell Vampire.” “She came in like that.” Sebastian explained. “Did you lot have that blood sucker down the hall come in to threaten her in question?” he asked. “No, that thing is still locked up.” Beta Luke explained. “Hmmm… they have the same Vampire smell.” Doctor Shelt stated. “Get her to the hospital, get the wolfbane out of her and start the healing.” Beta Luke demanded heading to the door. “Sebastian, you go with Doctor Shelt, appoint somebody to stay by her bed to keep an eye on her at all times.” He was out of the room fast. Sebastian did not disagree and was glad that Beta Luke did care to some point. Looing back around, Doctor Shelt was packing up his bags and so stepping forwards, Sebastian picked the young girl up in his arms, holding her to his muscular chest. The current attire did not really conceal her much, maybe in the right places, but there was still bare skin on her body, and Sebastian could feel a jolt through his own skin as he held her. He frowned… not understanding it. It was almost as if a mate was toughing a mate… but she was not his mate. He did not have that pull and his inside wolf had not made the connection either. He had always been told the stories from his mother Luna Iras and Lady Beta Sam about the mate bond. How it was strong, you could sense your mate the moment you are in the same area as each other. Their smell was intoxicating to you like a drug. You would be willing to protect them the moment you find them and love them for the rest of their life. The moment you saw each other, the link will be there, like a pull and a sense. Touching them would give you the feeling of good electricity flowing through your body. Sebastian was not feeling any of that from the girl, they had met and he was touching her, but it was nothing like he had been told. There was the strange pull, but other then that, nothing more. He did not understand it, but he wanted to know more. When Sebastian and Doctor Shelt arrived at the doors of the hospital there was a small party waiting for them. A couple of nurses, Maximus, Alpha Gabriel, Luna Iris and Lady Beta Sam. At the same time, Nathanial, Kinley and Delta Danial approached. Sebastian looked at them all and not saying anything walked through the doors and followed Doctor Shelt to a room. He froze at the door, a frown on his face… this was not a good room for the girl to be in. “Just do it Seb.” His father said behind him. Sebastian had no choice, he had to go forward. In silence everyone there followed into the three bedded room. Sebastian put the girl Adira down on the far bed, away from the doors of the room and the nurses moved forward, closing the curtains and no doubt doing as they needed to clean the girl up and get her into some better clothing, even if it was a hospital gown. “Alpha, please forgive me for taking her out of the cells.” Doctor Shelt stated with a bow. “If she remained, she likely would have died and I am sure that is not something you would have wanted.” “No.” Alpha Gabriel said honestly. “You took the right call, that is why you are the head Doctor here.” “What is wrong with her?” Luna Iris asked. “What I have already assessed, broken ankle and ribs. Dislocations. Cuts and Bruises.” Doctor Shelt told her. “I have also confirmed there is wolfbane in her system.” “Wolfbane?” Lady Beta Sam gasped. “Yes… it is weakening so it looks like it has not been given to her for about a month, maybe about two weeks before she arrived.” Doctor Shelt explained in more details then in the cell. “She also… has a serious chest infection and her weaken state is not helping her.” “What did she tell you when in the cells?” Luna Iris asked, looking to her husband the Alpha. “Her name is Adira… sixteen I think… seems to admit she was around Vampires until recently….” Alpha Gabriel answered frowning. “If she is weak to wolfbane… could it be… she is not in cahoots with Vampires… but an escapee.” “I doubt that…” Delta Danial said disapprovingly. “If she was on wolfbane… how would she have escaped them… being so weak.” “Good point.” Alpha Gabriel stated. “Even so… if she does not get medical help, she will die.” Doctor Shelt spoke up. “There is more to this girl then meets the eye. I do not know what it is… but this strange pull to her. I want to keep a watch on her, see how things develop. I have a feeling… maybe… she came here but did not know what was wrong with her actions… she is young, anyone could have been having her do their bidding for them.” “She is less than one year younger then my son.” Alpha Gabriel said strongly. “Yet do you see us treating him like a poor young child. He is responsible and knows right from wrong. I do not want to give her any favours age wise. She came onto our lands and I want to know why.” “I will do that.” Sebastian said stepping forward. “I will do this as a part of my learning, let me be in charge of keeping watch.” “Very well.” Alpha Gabriel stated. “Do it the right away and report everything back to me.” Sebastian nodded in agreement and glanced to the far bed. It made sense now why Doctor Shelt moved the girl to this room. He had not said it in the cells, but he had here, saying that she would die if she did not get help. Sadly, the room she was in… they called it the dying room. The place was where the pack sent their members if there was nothing that could be done to help them, just to make them comfortable. Was there nothing they would be able to do for the girl? Maybe it was precaution, because they did not know if she was a threat now or not. Nobody knew what to do now, Doctor Shelt explained he was going to put an infusion into the girls arm, to try and push the wolfbane out of her system, so she could recover better. It was step one and so it was all they could do for now. They were all about to leave, Maximus agreeing to sit in the room as a first watch over the girl, however, foot steps approaching the room alerted them all and quickly Beta Luke walked in. “I have some information.” He said quickly. “Alpha… the girl… and the Vampire in the cells… they are from the same place.” “How did you confirm that?” Alpha Gabriel asked surprised. “I got it out of the blood sucker. Not that he was hiding the information.” Beta Luke explained. “Apparently… Adira became a member of the Semen Coven when she was a baby. Found by Lord Vincent. None of them know who her family was or her original clan. She grew up in the coven and protected by Lord Vincent, as much as the rest would have loved to feed on her.” “Feed?” Luna Iris gasped. “She is a werewolf…. Surrounded by Vampires… who are hungry for blood.” Beta Luke explained in a thoughtful way. “The Vampire seemed to believe that she was not here to harm us… but to maybe get him out.” “Why would she do that for?” Delta Danial asked unimpressed. “Likely by being asked to do so from Lord Vincent.” Alpha Gabriel suggested. “Then she failed and we should keep her locked up.” Nathanial stated. “How can we trust somebody who is here to release a blood sucker.” “You can not just send her back to the cells.” Doctor Shelt stated. “She is not healthy to do so.” “When she is healthy again Doctor. “ Nathanial replied with a snap. “Or maybe back to Lord Vincent… if she is from there.” Delta Danial commented. “Absolute not!” Luna Iras said disgusted. “I do not care if she is only one year younger then our own son. She is still a child and if this is all true… I am not sending her back to a coven of Vampires that one day may disobey their Lord and feed on the poor girl.” “So, you think we should trust her and keep her here?” Alpha Gabriel asked his mate. “We do not need to trust her until we know everything, but we can bring her back to health. Doctor Shelt said she had wolfbane in her system. One month ago it seemed to have stopped being fed to her. We caught that Vampire just under six weeks ago… she was in that coven, weakened by wolfbane, no way to fight… it is clear they were not allowing her to be stronger then them. Until now… until… maybe she was here to get him out, so they needed her… as she is a werewolf and less suspicious to us, maybe that is why she was sent… ordered to.” he suggested with thought. “I do not think she should go back.” Sebastian stated. “I agree with Doctor Shelt… there is a strange pull to her… I can not explain it… like… almost like being pulled to a mate… but no where near as intent… if this pull has only just started due to the wolfbane starting to clear… it may not be wise to send her back.” “Why? What are you thinking Son?” Alpha Gabriel asked. “I thinking… maybe there is something about her that has been missed… and if they had her on wolfbane… they may not even know.” He stated. “Keep her here and figure out who she is and what the pull is?” Maximus commented. “Yes. It may be safer for her… otherwise… those filthy blood suckers might end up killing her if they loose control if we send her back right now or any time soon.” Sebastian stated. “And… if there is more to her… they might try and use that.” Lady Beta Sam suggested. “Yes. We would hold the advantage keeping her here and watching her.” Beta Luke stated. “Very well.” Alpha Gabriel nodded. “Once she is awake, healed and able to leave, we will rediscuss this, work out then what we will do. For now… twenty four hour watch on her.” They all agreed and now with a plan, they all departed, leaving the Pack Hospital to go finish the set up for the party. They did agree upon leaving that none will make mention of the girl to anyone else and certainly not the Halfmoon Pack. Maximus stayed behind, as he was the one on the first watch, while Sebastian and his father, along with Beta Luke made their way to the pack house and the main office, to make plans and a roster for those who would look after the girl. What ever was going on, it was clear to them it was not something simple.
