She had to think, to gather everything that was going on and make a choice. Since the trip and everything that happened, Adira had been focusing on working in the pack hospital or going to the town ‘library’ in search for information. Abagail and Stacey did drag her out a couple of times, and Kinley joined her every now and then when she spent time training, but other then that, she kept away from people. She did not want to get too close, to form too many relationships, as she was not sure where life was going to lead her.
The witch, Juliet, had revealed some information to her, which had shocked and upset Adira. She thought that Lord Vincent had cared, that he could be trusted, but she was not even sure any more. He had put magic on her, and the witch had confirmed this. It was not fair and it broke her trust, making her not feel comfortable around other people, not sure who could be trusted any more. She had wanted to know information about herself, but the answers were not obtainable at the moment due to the magic… it was like… Lord Vincent knew, but he was blocking the truth. Did he want that much of a control on her? Adira felt used and lonely.
That was the reason why she was spending a lot of time on her own, so she could figure things out about herself without anyone else helping, because she did not want the attachment or the expectations. Juliet could not remove all of the magic, she had tried, but it had not fully worked. It made Adira frustrated and she was working hard to find ways to break it all. Break the bounds that had kept her in Lord Vincent’s care her whole life, and even now, even when she was so far away from him. She was still trapped and she hated it.
After she left Ravenwood she knew things were going to change, she knew people wanted to know what she and the witch had discussed, but she could not bring herself to mention any of it. She felt, people would not like her any more.
Finding herself in the library of the pack house, Adira was sitting on the floor, she had half a dozen books lying around her and two more sitting in her lap. She had a note pad on one knee and rested a pen against the paper as she looked between the notes she was taking and the information in the books. It was clear the young girl was researching something, however, she had not told anyone what it was. Not that she was keeping it secret to that point, but simply because nobody had actually really asked her.
It was though, a soft noise in the library that grabbed her attention. Looking up, Adira saw Sebastian walking over to her. She could tell he too had been distracted lately, she could not blame him, he had a lot going on, and she wondered if he had come to find her with reason, or if him finding her in the library was a coincident. When he did see her, Adira could see the slight interest in his eyes, seeing the books around her and the note pad in her hand.
“Studying for the exams?” Sebastian asked.
“No… I just… wanted to investigate something.” Adira said.
She watched him, how he was acting. At times, Adira felt like she wanted to tell him what was on her mind, but then she was afraid, worried how it may be used against her if too many people knew. She knew she could trust him and his family. While their first meeting had not been great, Alpha Gabriel ordering his men to get information out of her, she knew it was just that they had to be careful. She was something different and new to them and they could not let things go lightly. Now, things were very different. She had been with the Redmoon pack for a long time, over six months now, considering she had been there since before new years. Even before Christmas. So yes, it had been a long time since they were in July now.
She trusted them, and she was sure they trusted her. Maybe neither trusted the other one hundred percent, but it was enough. No longer did Adira get followed by guards. No longer did she feel people hated her when she walked through the school halls. Life was changing and she was glad she stayed. Yes, she still needed to give Alpha Gabriel an answer, to his question regarding joining his pack, but Adira needed more time on it.
“What are you investigating?” Sebastian asked, leaning of a shelf watching her.
“I well…” she thought, wondering how much she should tell him. “I wanted to know more about me. Why Lord Vincent did what he did.”
“Keeping you in his Castle?” Sebastian asked softly.
“That among other things.” Adira answered looking down. “I am looking for anything, stories from the past, regarding magic and werewolves.”
“Is this… why you visited Juliet?” Sebastian wondered.
He moved closer, sitting on the floor near where she was and looking at some of the books, studying them for a moment before letting out a sigh and shaking his head, looking at her yet again. She watched him back, silent, studying him. His olive skin and mouse brown hair bringing the light of his green eyes out. He was different to a lot of other people she had met. He was wiser them most, almost like he was middle aged already. Yet, he was still young and free spirited, she could tell there was a lot going on with Sebastian, but she did not want to push anything. She nodded at his question though, answering him in a silent way.
“Did, she give you anything useful?” he asked her.
“She just… I am….” Adira said, not even sure how to explain. “She could sense power in me, but something is blocking it. It is likely… Lord Vincent is blocking me for some reason.”
“Why would he do that for?” Sebastian asked surprised.
“I have no idea… yet… I want to ask him, but then… I worry he wont really tell me the truth.” She admitted with a sigh. “Like… he knows more then he lets on about me.”
“Then we will just have to work harder to find out the truth, so when we confront him, he can not deny anything.” Sebastian said to her.
“We?” she asked.
“You are our friend Adira. A number of us really do care, as strange as it sounds, and we will do what we can to help you uncover the truth.” Sebastian said firmly.
She did not know what to say, as she looked at him, her heart racing a little faster. He was so good to her and she could not have asked for any better person in her life. She knew she could not get too comfortable, but she hoped they could still remain as they were. She gave Sebastian a slight nod and then Adira turned back to the book and note pad on her lap, trying to think of what she wanted to keep looking at.
“Can I ask… do any of your books talk about the old wolves?” Sebastian questioned.
“Old Wolves?” Adira questioned back.
“The Pure White ones.” He stated rubbing a hand on the back of his neck.
“White Wolf….” Adira said with a raised brow, a thought in her mind.
“Yeah… um… you know…. The one people kept saying they had a dream about?” Sebastian asked.
“No… not that I have found yet. Maybe if you help… we can find it together.” She suggested.
They fell silent, as Sebastian stared at her, she tried to give him an encouraging smile and then she watched as he shrugged and then nodded, with a small smile crossing his lips. He was willing to take her up on the suggestion, and so she started to go through the books on her laps, while Sebastian went for some of the others that were surrounding them.
They sat together in silence, every now and then Adira would look up other Sebastian, notice the calm about him, but also the tension and the confusion. She wondered what it was all about, if there was anything she could help him with. She did not want to push and ask him, it would not be fair. Adira also knew that for guys, they did not open up as much as a girl would, so she doubted that he would actually tell her why he wanted to know more of the White Wolf.
It was a pity, that the meaning of a White Wolf was unknown… some said they were rare and very powerful. Some just thought it was an old story. Adira herself was keen to know a bit more, but she did not want to step foot on what Sebastian was looking for and why. She had to let him be, because if she asked too much, then it would seem she was being too nosy and she did not want that. She just wanted things to be ok… to work out.
“Interesting…” Sebastian stated a few hours later.
“You found something?” Adira asked almost excited.
“It says in this paragraph, that the Old Wolves claimed the Mood Goddess was a White Wolf. She was the Moon Goddess due to her beauty, her kind nature and heart and due to her powers.” He said, looking up with a small smile. “Apparently, the White Wolf is of the Moon Goddess blood line, so when one if born, they are born with strength others do not have. They are very rear and only every few hundred years one is born. They are born… when the world needs help.”
“Help?” Adira asked frowning.
“Maybe… with this whole Dark Lord thing…. Maybe that is why she has been sent to us.” He stated.
“Maybe… but that at least gives us something…” Adira said thoughtfully.
“So… does it help you in any way?” Sebastian asked.
“Little.” Adira admitted.
Sebastian sighed, as she watched him, he raised his hands and placed them behind his head, leaning against the shelf of books behind him. He was thinking about something and she waited, wondering if he would say something or not.
“I met her you know.” Sebastian finally said, looking at her. “I know if I tell others they may think I am silly. But it was more then a dream. It was real.”
“How was… she?” Adira asked, wanting to know his thoughts.
“She was beautiful. We met in wolf form. I do not know whom she is yet, but maybe I will see her again. If she is here to help us with this war, maybe we’ll cross paths again.” He said with a smile.
“You seem… very attached.” Adira observed.
“I am… it is crazy… but… it can not be helped… we are mates.” He said.
“Mates… you are certain?” Adira whispered.
“The moment I saw her, I knew.” He smiled more. “She became my everything. I just wish… I knew who she was.”
“You do not know?” Adira asked.
“She ran off before I got a chance to find out.” He expressed, sounding a bit down. “But I have hope, like I said, we will meet again.”
Adira watched him for a few seconds, and then looked down at the books around her. There was so much going on and they all had a lot of things to think about. She understood that Sebastian was very attached, knowing the White Wolf was his mate. He did not seem down, and he had not told others, so Adira was grateful he had told her how he felt. She wondered though… how things would go on from here… would he really accept that White Wolf… or would he not want to wait until he met again. Right now, she sensed he would wait… but how long would anyone wait.
After some time of silence between the two of them, Adira decided to pack everything up. She had gathered enough information for the time being. It was getting late and she knew the pack house would be full of people soon ready for dinner. It seemed to, the moment she started packing up, Sebastian felt the same way and thus, he started to help her tidy the books and they exited the library together, walking down the hall a little, before he went to the dinning room and she went to her room to put her things away. She did not want anyone to look at the notes and the information that she was putting together. It was personal and she knew if anyone did, then they would likely misunderstand.
