The knock came just as I was finishing the last file on my desk.
I didn’t look up. “Come in.”
The door opened and I already knew it was him before I saw him. His scent always carried first—restless energy, impatience, trouble. But this time Mira was with him, and that made me pause and finally lift my eyes from the desk.
“What is it?” I asked.
Ryder didn’t waste time. “It’s Meadow.”
My pen stopped moving for a second.
“What about her?”
Mira stepped forward, her voice tighter than usual. “She’s missing, Alpha.”
I leaned back slightly in my chair, studying her. “Define missing.”
Ryder sighed. “The guards saw her leave earlier. She went toward the forest alone.”
My gaze shifted between them slowly.
