After listening to the little anecdote from Clara, Lincoln rubbed his head with his right index and thumb feeling a mixture of emotions. "Well, I'll have to use tactics to get Luna to accept her therapy." " Yeah, I hope you succeed with this one, Lincoln, you got this. " Clara said before leaving the scene. Lincoln stayed in the ER and waited for updates on Luna's condition, meanwhile planning how to introduce the changes in her therapist, without making a big deal out of it.
A few hours went by. Lincoln had passed out on a bench outside the room itself. A nurse came by and gently woke Lincoln to inform him about Luna gaining consciousness. Lincoln woke up and thanked the nurse for the information. 'Okay, Lincoln, you got this.' thought Lincoln to himself before entering the room. He swung open the door as quietly as possible because he knew that patients gaining consciousness after a coma usually feel irritable by any loud or harsh noise. He saw Luna on her bed squinting her eyes, struggling to adjust her irises to the brightness of the light in the room. "Where is Clara?" spoke Luna after realizing that someone had entered. "Hello, Luna, I am Dr. Lincoln" "Clara?" asked Luna. "the thing is, Dr. Clara needed a break. So, in place of her, I will be taking care of you from today onwards." Luna picked up her head to scan Lincoln from top to bottom. Then she put her elbow in her eyes and threw her head back in disappointment. "I didn't anticipate this at all," said Luna to herself. "How can I be so stupid?" "It's alright Luna. I apologize on behalf of Dr. Clara for treating you so poorly. I promise it won't be like that with me." "You don't understand. That is not the point. I just want to go home. I don't want to be alright. This is who I am and will always be." silence fell after Luna spoke those words. Tears started rolling down her cheeks. Lincoln knew Luna was suffering alone and was resisting people from getting close to her.
Lincoln sat down on the stool near her bed. "I cannot comprehend your suffering and pain because it is not something I have personally experienced. But I know that you have been fighting for a very long time now. And I am here to tell you that there is no need for you to fight anymore now. At least alone." Luna removed her moist elbow away from her eyes and looked at Lincoln. "Also, I don't think you need to change at all. You're perfect the way you are" " You are saying all that to just make me feel better. Go away." Luna turned over. "No, I am serious. Clara told me about the spicy conversations you both shared and I feel like you are quite a baddie by the way you shut Clara up. I won't lie about it, but I have known Clara for quite a long time now and, Boy can she snap badly." Luna turned back again to face Lincoln to see he was smiling in pure delight. "It's a little secret between us." he winked at her. Luna was unable to understand whether Lincoln was a goofy character like this or all of this was his professionalism. Whatever it was, he was good at it. Luna was still serious even after all the easy talk. After a brief pause, Luna said "I don't want to stay here regardless." "Who said I was going to make you stay back here anyway? I want you to leave as soon as possible myself." "Now?" "4 months." "2 months. take or leave." "Done." and so they negotiated the period. "You're pretty good at this. I'll give you that." "Why thank you, Luna. Now I'll see you tomorrow morning at 9." And then Lincoln left the room proudly.
