THE FALL
He opened his eyes slowly against the fierce gust of wind blowing on his face. Pale blue was what he only saw, nothing but endless sky. It was mesmerising, a sight to behold, he could see the twilight lurking on the horizon where the sky and earth met, drunk on the beauty of the oncoming sunrise it took him a minute to finally consider the fact that this wasn't all natural. He was in the air, and he didn't know how high, he was facing the horizon but he dared not look down, afraid of what he'll see, clinging to the hope that it was just another fathomless dream he was sinking into, but the force of the wind on his body as gravity was claiming him back towards earth spoke a different story. He had never felt so alive in a dream before, he's never thought about being in a dream while in a dream either. Somehow he looked down. He couldn't figure out if it was sheer curiosity or not, but he did. No. No. This is not happening. He was high alright. High enough to not be able to make an outline for the ground below. It was as if him realising was a call to gravity to somehow pull him in faster. He was rushing into ground with nothing to stop. Panic, fear, despair, emotions he couldn't even explain swelled up in him. No. Please, God, no. I don't want to die, not this young. There was still a part in him desperately hoping that it was all in his head, a dream that he'll be waken up from by his mum bellowing because he's gonna be late for school. Again. But he knew it was silly talk. Denial of the reality he's in right now. But the absurdity of this whole thing somewhat made it easier to think that it's not real. Nothing was making sense here. Various thoughts poured into his mind. What's gonna happen when he dies. His families, friends, how are they gonna even know, or even explain what happened to him. What about all of his regrets and his dreams? Guess his life was flashing before his eyes, well, if you're 17 you don't have that much of a life to rewind over and look back on, but you work with what you have he guessed. Funny thought. He closed his eyes. He didn't want his last moments to be lived in terror. Sure, contemplating on his lifestyle choices till now wasn't a better option but heck, atleast it'll be within his style of dying. The sound of wind against his ear were increasing exponentially announcing the doom that awaits him probably just a few seconds later. Please, save me. God. Someone. A frail prayer for salvation which he knew would not be answered. It'll be gone unnoticed by God, like a gazillion of his other prayers, lost in the abyss of hopelessness. Help me, he begged. Okay. The voice was surreal. Beautiful, sweet, hauntingly calming. As soon as he heard it, he didn't have any doubt that he was saved. The voice itself was like a surety. Suddenly he didn't hear winds bellowing on his air. No gusts slapped his face, no gravity pulling his body towards a grave. In those moments of silence, he hung, it was as if he was in a void, eyes closed. He was saved he knew, but too afraid to move. If he did, he believed that he'd start falling again into another nightmare. Time passed. He didn't how much. He didn't care. Finally, after what it seemed like an eternity, he squeezed open those eyes. and saw ground below him, just about 2 feet below him. "So you finally decide to open 'em huh?" said the same person who'd just saved him. The voice came from the front. He hung mid air, he tried and look up front to see who his saviour was, but he dropped the remaining 3 feet, scraping his palms and knees. Although it was 3 feet, the uncalled for fall left him real shaken up. It took him just a second to register himself. He sprang abruptly. He was falling to his death a few minutes ago. Now, being on rock solid ground made him feel heavenly. "That was quite a fall," the voice said again and this time he looked up to see him, a boy, no bigger than 10 years of age. Hovering mid air a few feet above him. Wearing plain t-shirt and shorts, bare feet, looking up at the sky, from where he came. "Wh-who are you? How're you doing that? The heck's going on?" he asked. The now looked at him. His face was...normal. No superb special features, smooth skin, round structure, plain looking nose, black hair. But as he directly looked into the boys eyes, the black eyes pierced through him, he felt. He felt as if he was naked, as the boys eyes could see through all the Vales off him, he could not hide anything from him. He unconsciously tool a step back. A slight hint of unease on his face. The boy slowly came back to ground. "Now, now. No need to be afraid of the man who just saved you a few minutes ago, Rickard," the boy gave a reassuring smile, taking step toward him. "How did you know my name?" Rick asked, both in shock and curiosity, but this time, no unease or threat. "Who are you?" The boy smiled again, and slowly approached him. Rick didn't move from the boy's advance. The kid gently put his arms around him, he was only about as high as his waist. Instinctively Rick put his patted the boy's head, and the boy giggled. Which felt awfully comforting and relieving despite the fact that he didn't even know who this boy was. "Who are you kid? What are you?" Rick asked, softly this time, as sweet as talking to a kid asking his first name. The boy giggled again and looked up at him, glittering eyes that pierced through his curtain of secrets and security, he answered, " Didn't you know? I am Law."
