The Deviance
There were consecutive drops from the sink as if it is broken. The aura of the night is as dark as those scary movies as if this is some one kind of a horror movie. However, it is not. The neighborhood had their blinds out, windows open waiting for the right moment. Televisions and radio sounds were heard across the whole state with everyone tuning in for the latest news.
Like the neighborhood, mom and dad were both on the couch with the tv on. Mom is doing some basting sews while dad - along with his coffee - is reading his newspaper about the weather forecast for the day. There is also my brother, Joshua on his phone talking along with his pals about topics I do not reckon much.
"We will be expecting a full Solar Eclipse later at 12 midnight. Everyone is obliged to wear protective sunglasses when viewing the said even for everybody's safety."
That's what echoed among the neighborhood. Mom and dad looked at the tv and while Joshua is stuck on his phone. I took a deep breath before I drink the very last of my warm coffee. I glanced back at my parents before I decided to go up.
The Solar Eclipse gives me the least concerns. I have no intention of watching it to be honest, because what concerns me right now is what the people are saying about it.
"The last solar eclipse brought devastating drought to some farm lands."
"The last solar eclipse made certain kids disappear."
"The last solar eclipse killed almost a percent of humanity."
These news were what caught my attention the most. In a simple Solar Eclipse, something as devastating as these events would happen. However, they were said to be myths. Myths that was never really proved. But what if something today will happen? What if kids will start disappearing? People will start dying? And the whole world would have nothing but drought?
But it will never happen. I am sure it will never happen. All of it were just myths. In just one sleep, the eclipse would be gone. In one close of an eye, the normal day would go back. Kids would go strolling around the streets. Elderlies inviting people to join their morning routines and single oldies finding couples to take care of their pets together, or maybe you know, have children and grow old together.
In just one sleep.
It would all be gone.
In a single glimpse.
It will be a normal day again.
But it's not.
Welcome to Deviance.
A world where humanity is divided into two:
The chasers, whose objective is to catch at least one runner every Deviance day.
There's also the runners, whose objective is to do all they can to survive each day.
Money is not a problem. As you progress through your tasks, you will automatically gain credits on your account.
I thought it was all just inside my head. But it was not.
I was in a different world rather than a normal one.
I woke up in the midst of a field. It is filled with smells of blood and random noises. There were screams, explosions, gun shots and a lot of cries. And once I fully woke up, I see it clearly.
And felt it too.
However the place I'm in reeks of blood, that how much I am currently covered in fear.
Is this what everyone is talking about?
Is this what really they call the chaotic world? Where kids went off after disappearing?
I looked around the place I am in carefully. I saw how the field is drenched with blood. How the place reeks with the smell of it and how loud the screams I can hear around me are.
I stood up while feeling something heavy around my chest and my pocket. I take a look at myself carefully, I am surprisingly fine, but whatever happened in just a glimpse is surely not fine.
I took a slow stroll around the field, and while on it suddenly I heard one scream getting nearer and nearer. I took a glance to where the scream is coming from and I can see one girl running towards me. She was filled with blood and her clothes are full of holes, making some parts of her body visible.
"Help! Help me!"
The girl was screaming with no end. Asking for help, I immediately rushed towards her and catch her as she unwillingly fall beyond her knees. She glanced at me at her very last breath, because I notice the wounds around her waist.
"You... should.. run." she softly whispered at my face.
I felt heavy stumbles coming near me. I could sense it very well that there was just not one person, but there's a group of them. Approximately 8 people are coming towards me.
Maybe help is coming.
But what if it's not?
Clearly the female said I should run. Those fearsome words she just spoke were as spooky as the aura of this world.
Where the hell am I?
I left the girl behind as I heard the footsteps coming near. As I run with the best I could, I suddenly heard multiple gunshots.
It was all aimed at me.
I run faster and faster just to escape this mayhem. I didn't doubt even for a second to take a break. I just run and run to the nearest crowded place I could ever find.
But due to the current state of this world, there was no crowded place. Everything is ruined and broken. There's outrageous fire outbreaks everywhere, no living being to be seen, the road drenching in fresh bloods, aircrafts wandering abouts, and explosions in every nearby building.
I hid behind a building as I reach a certain point. I took swift consecutive breaths and fall down on a narrow street. I let my body lie and take some rests without of course taking a sleep. I cannot waste my life just by sleeping.
I thought I was safe, but I wasn't. I heard the footsteps again, coming nearer and nearer. This time they were shooting their guns randomly at various points. Behind trash bins, behind store doors, behind buildings and even through the thinnest pole just to make sure they'd hit something.
Then I suddenly felt something grab my wrist and mouth. I glanced as swiftly as I could towards where the grasped could be, and I saw a girl with a cap on her head. She placed her hand on her mouth to warn me to shut up. I saw an orange paint on her wrist and once she figured I was looking at it, she immediately hid it under the sleeve of the jacket she was wearing.
She's wearing denim jeans, along with old-fashioned varsity jacket and a cap that partners with her jacket. Her hair was braided and there were black inks — or paints — everywhere her face.
"If you want to survive, learn how to be quiet." she muttered.
