Untitled Episode
JOSEPH FROM THE BOOK OF GENESIS
Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob and his favorite son. His father showed this favoritism by giving him a coat of many colors. Joseph's brothers were jealous of this favoritism and began to hate him.
One day, Joseph had a dream in which his brothers would bow down to him. He told his brothers about the dream, which only made them hate him even more.
A few days later, Jacob sent Joseph to check on his brothers, who were tending to the flocks in Shechem. When Joseph arrived, his brothers plotted to kill him, but instead they sold him to a group of Ishmaelite traders. The traders then sold Joseph to Potiphar, an Egyptian official.
Joseph quickly proved himself to be a hardworking and capable servant, and Potiphar put him in charge of his household. However, Potiphar's wife falsely accused Joseph of trying to sleep with her, and he was thrown into prison.
While in prison, Joseph met two of Pharaoh's officials and interpreted their dreams, which led to him being brought before Pharaoh. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dreams as well, and as a result, he was made second in command of all of Egypt.
During a famine in the land, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt to buy food. They did not recognize Joseph, but he recognized them. He tested his brothers by accusing them of being spies and putting them through a series of tests. Eventually, Joseph revealed himself to his brothers and forgave them for what they had done to him.
Joseph's family moved to Egypt and he helped the Egyptians and his family to survive the famine. Joseph's foresight in interpreting Pharaoh's dream had helped Egypt to prepare for the famine by storing grain.
When his father died, Joseph's brothers feared that he would take revenge on them. However, Joseph assured them that he had forgiven them and that God had used their actions to bring about a greater good. He told them, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
The story of Joseph teaches about the power of forgiveness, the sovereignty of God and how even difficult circumstances can be used for good purposes if we trust in God's plan.
