It’s a cold and windy day at the Bay Beach, as Jessy stood still at the shore looking through the vast waters, listening to the sound of waves as her eyes started to become watery.
She’s been through a lot the past few months, losing her parents from the freak accident and losing their house to the mortgage. Jessy is an assistant designer in a small company in Country X, she was very diligent in her projects and has a lot of potentials but today, she left the only outlet of her hurt and frustrations, she felt she isn’t capable to do her tasks and projects anymore, since she became more and more depressed.
Looking blankly, Jessy finally let out a big sigh.
“How am I supposed to stand again? I already lost everything, I am so tired of acting fine and that I’m strong.” As tears finally rolled down her cheeks.
Thoughts of leaving this world started to fill her head as hurt and pain creeps into her heart.
“No, I can do this. I have to find myself. At least, I still have Jacob by my side.” As she wiped her tears with her sleeves.
Jacob Simons is Jessy’s boyfriend for over 3 years already. He is a businessman with a good background. They are supposed to be engaged but for some reason, Jessy’s father doesn’t seem to approve of Jacob, the reason the engagement did not push through until the accident happened.
She took out her phone and dialed Jacob’s number to ask him to pick her up.
“Honey, I’m at Bay.”
“Hello”, a female voice answered on the other line.
Trembling, Jessy asked, “Who are you why do you have my boyfriends’ phone?”
“Boyfriend? I am Jacob’s Fiancé, Renee. I thought he already broke up with you?”, stating in a sarcastic tone.
Jessy, was left speechless and she hangs up the call.
“How can this be? He said he loved me; I didn’t expect he would cheat on me.” She was so angry that she wanted to cry but no tears seem to fall from her eyes.
Suddenly her phone rang and in the caller ID, Jacob’s number appeared.
“What do you want?! I have heard enough JACOB!” as she clenched her phone tight.
“Jes, I’m sorry I just didn’t expect you would call now. I was going to tell you earlier but you were so down these past few months and I don’t want to hurt you more”
“Well unfortunately you already did! You could have at least told me earlier. How could you?!!”
“I’m sorry Jes, you know I did love you”
“Stop. just stop.” Then she canceled the call and finally, tears started to fall as raindrops started to pour.
She finally decided to leave the shore and walked to the nearest cafe, the owner Mrs. Su saw how soaked and absentminded Jessy is,
“Miss, come in for a while. You are soaked and cold. Here have this.” Handing her a warm towel.
“Thank you.” As she accepted it.
Looking at Jessy tenderly she said, "I’ll get you some hot choco, I’m sure it will help you warm up a bit.” as she hurriedly left to the kitchen.
Jessy’s phone has been buzzing nonstop with Jacob’s missed calls and text messages. She finally opened the messages.
‘Honey, please let’s talk’
‘It’s raining, where are you? I’ll pick you up.'
‘Honey, please answer the phone.’
‘Jes, I’m worried please where are you?’
Jessy finally decided to reply to Jacob one last time,
‘Stop calling me honey, because I don’t belong to you anymore. Please stop calling and texting me. You have already hurt me enough. So please leave, just leave me alone. Don’t look for me. I don’t want to see you anymore and enjoy your life with your Fiancé.’ As she pressed send and turned off her phone.
Jessy stared blankly at her phone. Suddenly Mrs. Su approached Jessy bringing a cup of hot choco.
“I’m Mrs. Su, you can call me Auntie. What’s your name? Here drink up while it’s still hot” as she handed the cup to Jessy.
“Thank you, Auntie. I am Jessy” as she started drinking the hot choco.
“Something seems to be bothering you, is that the reason why you are here alone in the Bay Beach?”
Jessy placed a tiny smile on her face as she nods to Mrs. Su’s question.
“You know Jessy” Mrs. Su placed her hands in Jessy’s hands “You are young and beautiful. I don’t know what you’ve been through and what you are thinking. But I have seen you a lot of times coming here to Bay Beach. And I can see in your eyes that you are a strong woman. Always remember, that there are always brighter days ahead. You just have to keep fighting and moving. Then everything will follow” as she squeezed Jessy’s hands.
Jessy’s tears started to become watery and as she forced herself to smile, tears started to fall down her cheeks continuously.
Mrs. Su then stood up and gave Jessy a light hug.
“Cry as much as you want, it will relieve you. But don’t overdo it, it’s bad for you.”
“Thank you, Auntie. I know. I actually feel a bit better” She answered in a hoarse voice.
Jessy then stood up, and held the towel as she spoke to Mrs. Su, “Auntie, may I take this towel with me? I will return this to you the soonest, I’ll have this washed first.” Folding the towel and placing it inside her bag.
“No worries, you can keep it.” Mrs. Su smiled.
“Thank you, Auntie.” Jessy paused and looked outside the window. “I think I shall go ahead since it seems the rain has stopped already. I will keep in mind what you told me earlier.” Jessy smiled as she prepares to leave the cafe.
“Come back soon, I want you to meet someone, who often comes here also.” As she is waving to Jessy.
“I will Auntie, thank you again” Jessy smiled and waved as she stepped out of the cafe.
