Samantha Lee's face alternated between red and white. She knew what kind of woman Emily White was, and they had known each other for so many years that they understood each other perfectly. Samantha Lee was precisely because she knew that Emily White was not a woman who would easily back down from a loss that, after the incident, she hurriedly found someone to knock her out and leave some evidence behind. This way, Samantha Lee could feel at ease. Emily White had lost her innocence, and it was to the most despicable kind of man. Given her strong sense of dignity, it would be difficult for her and Ethan Parker to be together again with this obstacle between them. Samantha Lee calmed down when she thought about this. Why was she getting excited? Everything was going according to her plan. She couldn't afford to lose her composure now. When it came to dealing with Emily White, a direct confrontation was out of the question, as she was the type who wouldn't be bullied but would yield to kindness. Samantha Lee realized she had been too angry earlier and shouldn't have confronted her with those words. So Samantha Lee immediately changed her attitude. Gone was the arrogance and aggressiveness, and her eyes softened, even showing a hint of remorse. "Emily, I didn't mean it that way. I know it's my fault...I'm sorry...I'm just feeling uneasy because I know I'm the third party between you and Ethan. I'm so scared of losing him because I'm pregnant now." She approached Emily White, ignoring her resistance, and grabbed her wrist tightly. Samantha Lee's eyes were red, and her tone was almost pleading, "Emily, please, I beg you, look at it from the perspective of our friendship of so many years and the baby in my womb. I'm asking you to leave EC." Emily White couldn't believe what she was hearing. "You said what?" "I want Ethan to join EC and work with my brother. If you're still there, it will be awkward for both of you. Can you please accommodate me just this once?" Emily White felt betrayed. She had given up her love and made countless excuses for them, only to be told by Samantha Lee that their friendship was worth nothing. She was just a fool. Why should she keep backing down? She had already sacrificed so much. Emily White's heart was wounded, but she coldly lifted the corners of her lips and met Samantha Lee's hopeful gaze. She used force to remove Samantha Lee's hand from her wrist and responded indifferently, "I'm afraid I can't comply." "Emily..." "You don't deserve to call me that. Miss. Grant, as a small employee, I have no objection to your boyfriend joining the company. But as for leaving EC, it's not up to you to decide." Samantha Lee's words made Emily White blush and her lips tightly pressed, as if she wanted to retort but couldn't think of anything to say. "Miss Lee, it's time for work. Please leave," Alexander Grant dismissed her without further ado. Samantha Lee felt humiliated. She had always been a high-society princess and had never experienced such treatment before, especially from a woman she considered her enemy. "Emily White, don't get too cocky just because you're still at EC. Ethan Parker will never take you back! You know deep down you don't deserve him!" Samantha Lee's words were clearly a jab, but Emily White remained calm, smiling and saying, "I've never believed in using underhanded tactics to get what I want. If it's mine, it will be mine. If it's not, forcing it won't lead to happiness. Miss Lee, since you're pregnant, you should focus on taking care of yourself. Whether I deserve him or not isn't up to you to decide." Samantha Lee's eyes were red with anger, but Emily White didn't think she was about to cry out of sadness. Just then, the phone on her desk rang. It was a call from the secretarial office, summoning her to the general manager's office. Emily White left her office without giving Samantha Lee another glance. She needed some peace and quiet. As expected, the general manager informed her that Alexander Grant wanted her to be his personal secretary. Initially resistant to the position, Emily White, spurred on by Samantha Lee's barb, decided to accept the offer without hesitation. "Yes, I agree!" she replied promptly. The general manager was pleased and congratulated her, "Great, Emily! Although Mr. Liang is meticulous about work, you'll definitely learn a lot from him. Keep up the good work." Emily White smiled politely and thanked the general manager. She reflected on how eventful the day had been: she had expected to be fired but ended up getting promoted and moving to a new office next to Alexander Grant's on the top floor of EC. After settling into her new workspace, Emily White felt a mix of exhilaration and uncertainty. She wondered if she had made the right decision, especially considering Samantha Lee's warning about Ethan Parker potentially joining the company. Could she really remain unaffected? Just as she was lost in thought, the phone rang. It was Alexander Grant, summoning her to his office.
