Chapter Three
continuation from Chapter Two
The morning light filtered through the window as I walked into the living room, where Xavier was already standing by the door. "Good morning, brother!" I greeted him cheerfully, trying to shake off the sleepiness that still clung to me.
"Good morning, Gwen!" he replied with a nod. "Have you put on your sun protection ring?" His voice carried the usual concern.
I raised an eyebrow and sighed, already knowing what he was going to ask. "Of course," I said, rolling my eyes. "Why are you out here?"
He crossed his arms and shot me a serious look. "Dad instructed me to drive you to school."
I frowned, clearly annoyed. "But I can go by myself! I’m a grown woman."
"Yeah, but not a sensible one," he quipped, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "Just get in the car. It's not like I want to do this either."
I threw my hands up in defeat. "Okay. Fine. Let's go."
With that, we both headed out the door, Xavier clearly not thrilled with the idea of chauffeuring me, but we had no other choice.
.
Xavier is my older brother and the first born of the family, He doesn't say much or do much, he's a detective and spends most of his time working instead of being with family. I can't blame him though because our family is boring.
However, Xavier is a perfectionist and a neat freak. He's always clean and does things perfectly, everything about him is perfect, he could have been a better fashion icon than a detective.
While he was driving me to school, he began to talk about my earlier behavior, it seems like mom told him what i did.
.
Xavier’s voice was sharp as he glared at me. “You did it again, huh? Why can’t you do anything right?” His frustration was palpable, his arms crossed over his chest in disappointment.
I rolled my eyes, feeling the weight of his judgment. “This is my life, Xavier. Just leave me alone.”
He shook his head, his tone growing colder. “Your mates are acting maturely and marrying into influential homes, but you’re here goofing off.”
“I don’t care about that,” I shot back, my voice firm. “I just want to live my life.”
Xavier sighed heavily, his expression softening a little but still laced with concern. “Mom told me you went out last night to party. You shouldn’t have done that.”
I shrugged, trying to dismiss his concern. “I can’t take care of myself. I’m a vampire.”
He frowned deeper, clearly unimpressed with my response. “I’m afraid that’s not enough.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, feeling the annoyance bubble in my chest.
“Didn’t you hear last night’s news?” he pressed, his voice carrying an edge of urgency.
“No… What happened?” I asked, suddenly intrigued.
Xavier’s face grew even more serious as he leaned in slightly. “You really need to start acting seriously. Last night, there was an attack in Queens by an unknown creature. It tore down the National History Museum and attacked some human and vampire civilians. According to eyewitnesses, they claim the creature was a 12-foot-tall werewolf!”
“A 12-foot werewolf!? That’s crazy! Werewolves aren’t that tall,” I exclaimed, my mind racing to make sense of the absurdity.
“Exactly,” Xavier agreed, his eyes widening slightly. “The eyewitnesses said something even crazier—that it moved really fast, like a vampire.”
the answer. “Nobody would believe it’s a werewolf.”
Xavier didn’t reply immediately, his expression unreadable. “You’re right. But whatever the case, you need to stop going out at night. It’s not safe anymore. Whoever did this sure caused a lot of damage. Promise me you’ll quit these late-night ventures.”
“They must be crazy,” I said, shaking my head. “We’re the fastest creatures in the world. So, what did you conclude?”
Xavier’s gaze grew intense, his voice lowering to a more serious tone. “Well, there was one problem. There were claw markings everywhere, and the cameras caught the culprit.”
“Then it must have been a vampire!” I declared, certain of
I sighed, knowing I was just going to say what he wanted to hear. “Sure, I promise,” I muttered under my breath. Yeah, right.
“Good,” Xavier said with a relieved nod. “Well, we’re almost at your school now.”
Minutes later, we arrived at the front gate at the school, I got down from the car and bid my brother goodbye as he drove away.
As I turned around, I saw Emma kissing a guy at the front gate. Without looking , I crossed absentmindedly trying to get to her but every moment, I heard a loud horn blaring at me. As I looked to the right side, A Big truck screeched hard on the road as it headed towards me, Paralyzed by fear and shock, I was unable to move at all.
Suddenly someone pushed me out of the way in the nick of time, before the truck crushed me to death. This little stunt began to draw attention and soon people gathered around. While I was recovering from my shock, A stranger stretched out his hand and looked down at me.
.
Arthur, “Hey... Are you alright?”
