The Girl In His Dreams
“I love you” the female voice whispers haunting words into my ears. A ring accompanies her phrase not a second after the sentence. Making the heart felt words ‘I love you’ repeatedly echo in my head as it gradually dies down.
“I love you” I mutter softly, after having watched her drift back to place. My face suddenly imprinting a genuine smile as I gaze into her silver grey eyes. One hand busily tracing the evident bump that formed around her bare belly in an upward manner.... The other using my head as support as I want nothing but to look her way.
Why did this boring, yet peaceful moment feel so whole? Like I would rather spend my lifetime doing nothing but being cooped up in a bed or anywhere... So long as it’s with her?
My hand now trails off to her side, sliding past her half heart tattoo slightly below her waistline. Nails slowly discovering its own path towards her gorgeous hips.
Her leg jerked at the gentle scrape, her belly, on the spur of the moment, contracted inwardly ... It was her sensitive spot, and I devilishly used it at the fullest.
“Do that again” her soft spoken voice, very demanding.
I did nothing but gaze nonchalantly into her pleading eyes, waiting for her to beg for my touch using words. The magic word.
“You tease” she hadn’t found my actions infuriating, instead, she giggles as embarrassment instantly taints her pale skin bright red with what she did next.
“Please, my love” her eyes wanders elsewhere at the glimpse of my satisfactory smirk “Can you do that again?”
She was the shy type... And I loved her that way.
“Do what?” I ran my nails over her thigh once more, slightly brushing upwards, past her hips, past her faint stretch marks, past her-... There it was.
“This?” I innocently asked whereas my eyes eagerly fixates at her provocative reaction. Those involuntary twitches that I now want to take in nonstop.*
She shuddered beneath my fingers, it was both erotic and funny how she had a soft spot there. The fact that it excited and made her laugh were two things that I never imagined would go in common.
When you laugh at something, it’s presumably as a form of ridicule... But she, she laughed cause she wanted more. Cause she needed mor-
“Stop” she chuckled as she tries to nudge my hand that kept recoiling back to her underbelly “Stop it Noah... It hurts”
Noah...
“Then why are you laughing?” I asked, half confused. She’d wanted it not long ago, but now she wants me to stop.
She was the mysterious type... Still to be deciphered.
“Its pleasure pain OK?” she explained as I gaze intently at how she gasped heavily, recovering from this ‘pleasure pain’.
“Lacey Myers...” I close the distance she’d unconsciously lengthened between us.
Lacey Myers, the name that’s haunted me for so long, aside from your declaration of love for me... And mine, for you as well.
“...you’d be the death of me” locking our naked bodies into each other as we laid, doing nothing but the rise and fall of our bare chests.
ALL IS, BUT A MEMORY.
A reminder of my past that I hope to someday forget. But still, here I am, brawling against the strong tides of time to remember the most of it. Rather, to remember her.
I inhale, leaning my neck all the way back on the leather coated chair as I twirl, on both sides, in half circles.
About twenty minutes had already passed since the conclusion of the life draining business meeting. I stayed back, however. Putting my disheveled mind at ease, despite being burdened the luxury of working 24/7, and she is the first thing that comes to mind.
“A ghost” I whisper with closed eyes. “You’ve taunted me for years now Lacey Myers” I frowned just at the mention of that name “Why won’t you let me be!!!?” I growled in frustration, my resting arms clenching the wooden handgrips, pain shooting through the tip of my fingers as it scrapes the lumber from underneath the classy looking furniture.
My furrowed brows eased and any restrain I had on the lifeless armrest equally loosened when it dawned heavily on me. “That wasn’t it” my anger subsidizing as something in me ached.
“Why wont I let you be?” I quietly utter the words, less vicious than I expected them to come out.
When does this torture end? Why do I go against my worked out, throbbing head just to piece together our past? To find the missing puzzle that’s been made a very hollow dent in my recollection.
No matter, I realized... the more I fought to recall our adventures, the harder it was to remember anything... And the harder it is for me to make out a face for you.
“Can I get you anything Sir?” the female voice, clear as day, interrupts my cycling thoughts.
I took a moment, at my own turtle-like leisurely pace, to open my eyes and pay more attention to my surrounding, instead of this ghost.
And just as I peeked a glance at her... At whoever it was that now confronts me. I immediately got drawn into her features. Similar to the woman I’d just spent minutes idolizing as I daydreamed. No matter, i forced myself to comprehend such coincidence. To behave.
The brown mid length strands of hair that sheathed a portion of her forehead as her back was still slightly arced, those silver grey eyes that every now and then would be hidden behind batting eyelids , that name tag placed beside her chest that reads... Nora.
Nora?
I glared at the employee, utterly disappointed with her existence just because of a name and without a care if I showed it as well. Unfortunately, she was unable to read the room.
The employee stood still, regardless of my detached stare, regardless of my silence, regardless of the scaring awkwardness in the situation.
I should just politely get rid of her.
“If I’d wanted something, don’t you, a person who had, now questionably, managed to get a job in an office, think I’d have asked for it already?” I asked, frankly.
“It’s just-“ she’d begun almost immediately.
‘NO’, i inwardly cried in frustration... ‘Can’t you see I want to be left alone. Be gone’ my eyes wincing as I saw her mouth prepping to utter more words.
“ You’ve been seated here for half an hour already” Nora explained as she positions her arced body to straighten “Maybe more Sir” she then adds.
Really?, I mused as I snatch a quick glance at the wall clock. Around 45 minutes had passed, I made out in awe. It usually took less than 20 minutes, forgoing any bit of rest I could get just to think of her. Rather...Obsess about her.
Things aren’t looking good for me. I’m sleep deprived, behind work schedule, ... and this stranger had just reminded me of my letdown.
“How does anything I do incorporates you, let alone my seating?” I shift, irritated with just how much they look so unbearably alike “does my breathing bother you as well?” before adding sarcastically.
I look at her tag once more. If not for the tag, I would’ve believed it were her . Being that Lacey, with years passing by, no longer had a clear cut face. Just those two -hair and eyes- distinct features.
What if... what if Nora were to change her name? I entertained the idea as I unconsciously watch her bite her bottom lip. Annoyed? Nervous? Flirting?? . For all I know, it could be all of the above. After all, the human body wasn’t restricted to one emotion at a time.
You wanted a talk, now you’re going to have more than one, I thought as I began.
“Nora” my body jerks up in a flash, and my hands instantly swerve the iconic wheel chair away from me. It rolled, slamming against the glass cubicle as it rebounds back a little to our stead. By the time the chair could come to its abrupt halt, I’d already closed the distance between Nora and I.
“Y- yes sir” she winced from my sudden enthusiasm|change in vigor, her gaze swiftly looking down as she had, but for a second, gotten a glimpse of mine.
She seemed shy, I contentedly noted. Lacey had been shy as well. My eyes scanned her petite figure, once more, it was just like hers. There was no denying it... Nora could perfectly fit the cut as Lacey.
Fully aware of the see through glass, I continued to make my employee undeniably uncomfortable. As I am desperately in search of someone to ease my sorrows.
I now drift my analysis from her pale nape to her bust. It was an alright size, even though I, personally, did like them bigger. My view now rested on her seemingly flat stomach and with a frown, I asked.
“Do you not yet have a child?” I blurted out as I recalled another distinctness with the young brunette I laid in bed with. My hands that had delicately rubbed the bump which formed around her stomach...* She ought to be a mother by now.
“No sir” she squeaked the words out with a still lowered head.
I aggressively took her by the chin, compelling her to look at me and just how serious I am about making her mine.
“An abortion perhaps?” I question through gritted teeth, jerking a brow as I impatiently waited for a ‘yes’.
Her head slowly went sideways. Nodding a ‘no’ instead.
This was probably the fourth time now she’d gotten my hopes up, I realized with swelling resentment as I watched her gathered cheek gradually cram up in my palms till I could feel my fingers about to crush her jaws.
She struggled to break free, making all sorts of whimper at the back of her throat. I was close to her face, close enough to graze her lips by accident when I then looked at her pleading eyes... Just like Lacey’s, when she’d begged for my touch. But this was different. This woman wanted the exact opposite.
I let go of her face, aiming her head away from mine as the forceful haul prompted her materials to fall. Expecting her to leave immediately she had the chance., perhaps report this abuse to the authorities and the proof, the fresh nail marks on her reddened cheeks.
But... she didn’t.
Nora stood there, emotionless, as though nothing had just transcended. Did she like being treated like this? Or is this her showing to what extreme her loyalty was to her boss-
I arranged the collar of my suit, ignoring the fact that I am on the wrong for not apologizing.
“Why don’t you leave?”I began at the table where my files laid “Why don’t you gossip to everyone about this assault and make a headline in the cover of the newspaper or something?” I arrogantly stated.
“Is this because I’m a woman?” her voice hadn’t wavered.
Nora’s question caught a portion of my attention. I gaze at her now, still collecting herself from the unanticipated experience.
“If I do that, it would seem unfair that I have not yet heard your side of the story” she continued, trying to make out some sort of justice to my action.
“Yet?” I arch a brow “Who said I was going to?”
Her nose flared open. That was the first obvious detection of bitterness she held towards me.
“Being assaulted in a see through cubicle” Nora paused as she navigated to collect her belongings which had been spread out decoratively on the floor “No offender would do such a thing except they are purely ignorant... By that, I mean stupid” she had everything neatly arranged in her palms when she now stood up “Or triggered by something” she concluded in clear certainty that it was the latter as she lets her view now rest fully on me.
“You just acted on impulse” Nora blinked twice before now turning her back to face me as she cautiously approached the door handles “I’m sorry if I caused you to remember a past tragedy... or maybe someone you-“ she bit back her words, gulping them down as she probably didn’t want to guess the right thing and watch me have another episode.
“That pain must surely be far greater than what I just experienced... Considering you, as my boss and owner of this company, have more than I do to loose”
Nora had begun towards the glass doors. Her one hand wrapped idly on the metal handles for half a minute before she spoke up once more.
“No matter, Mr Ivan, you’re an awful man for doing what you did... I simply choose to act rationally”
Had she become shy because of the close proximity? And now babbles because she is nowhere near my reach!?, I fought back the quick fit of rage being the way she spoke so freely to someone who could have her fired without a cause.
I had unknowingly taken a step towards her, watching as she slid through the now opened glass doors. Cold, astonished eyes locked in as the pair observed her till the very last minute she was out of sight.
She’d been hesitant to air out her mind before she could leave. Similarly, hiding her disgust of being in the same room as me with those words.
Nora was far more interesting than I thought, I admitted. Also realizing that, even if it were just for a second, she had made me completely forget about Lacey. Considering the fact that her daily existence in my mind had made me a bitter person. Especially when it came to women...
‘Is it because I’m a woman?’
“Maybe instead of changing Nora... She could change me” I scoffed, realizing just how incompetent the latter words sounded “Maybe” I mutter, squinting as I recalled the image of my younger self, creases forming on both corners of my mouth, lips curving upwards.
When last did I smile?
