POV of writer
Jessie and Scott came over to keep Everett company. Once in a while, when they came around, he would smile when they said something funny. Almost every time they came, Jessie would cry a little before leaving. She was quite an emotional woman. It hurt the two to see they're friend in that position. If he could at least talk or speak a word, they would've been assured of progress. But they weren't giving up on him. Ever. Even though he couldn't move entirely, he could make a few gestures and give signals with his fingers. Once, he held a spoon and tried bringing food to his mouth. Even though it wasn't a successful attempt, it was a great effort. They brought pizza and Jessie tried to feed it to him but he kept his mouth closed. "We'll keep it in the kitchen for later", Jessie said. Scott simply looked into the eyes of his friend and asked, " how are you doing buddy?". He saw something like a smile on Everett's face and said with a smile, "Well I'll take that as an I'm fine thank you Scott"
"Hey Everett, we kinda have good news" Scott said. "And bad news also"
"Come on babe there's nothing bad about the death of the guy who killed Everett's Mom" Jessie said. It was after completing her statement that she realized what she had done. "Oh, I guess I just said everything in one sentence right? Yet still..surprise, Scott and I are dating. I mean it started about a year ago, we kinda had this thing between us but we're making it official now. And you're the first person to hear about it. We're sort of coming out". " Babe we're just dating not telling our parents that we're gay OK". Scott said.
A smile crept over Everett's face. They could sense he was happy. Everett was happy for his friends, but he wasn't surprised. He always knew that they had a thing for each other since they were kids.
"About that guy", Jessie said. " He got what he deserved. "When the news came out that your mom tried to attack him, everyone knew that Jason guy was lying. You should be happy Everett. And if you're not, well I'm happy enough for both of us" Jessie said with a laugh. "Look Everett" Scott said, "I wouldn't normally say this but I think what happened to him wasn't that bad you know" "I totally agree with that", Jessie said. " I know he's still human and all, but he killed an innocent person. So he kinda deserved it". "How he died was quite mysterious though" Scott added" I heard it was actually a murder. His wife said she woke up this morning to see the dead body of her husband laying beside her on the bed. He was killed in his sleep. There was a bullet wound in his chest that signifies he was shot but his family, as well as the neighbours said they heard no gunshot ". " You know its quite weird how someone walks into your bedroom and kills your husband with a gun and you don't notice. It's weird, don't you think?" Jess asked her boyfriend. "Or maybe " Jessie said. "Its the ghost of Everett's mom coming back to hunt the people who killed her, don't you think so Everett?"
Scott and Jessie began to laugh and they could clearly see Everett react to the joke as his lips curled into a smile. "Go Mrs. Johnson" Jessie said, with a laugh.
The two kept their Immobile friend company for a few more hours and said good bye to him and Mrs. Smith after eating the pizza they had brought with them.
A few minutes after Jess and Scott had stepped out of the house, Becky heard a knock on the door. It was Everett's personal nurse. She would check his vitals once in a week and take care of him throughout the week when Becky was not at home. Her duties were supposed to start 8:00 in the morning and end around 7:00 pm. But Becky told her that she could come 12:00 noon and leave after dinner, because she normally didn't go out in the mornings so she could take care of Everett by herself till the nurse came in the afternoon. However, Hailey, the nurse would sometimes come early in the morning to help Becky make breakfast. She had become very fond of the two(Everett and Becky) and liked to keep them company because it had been just two of them since Becky's husband; Marcus had died.
She had become more of a friend than an employee.
" How are you doing today Hailey?" Becky asked after she had let the nurse in. "I'm perfect Mrs. Smith" she answered, "I believe you're doing well yourself". Even though Becky had asked her several times to call her by her first name, Hailey would always call her Mrs. Smith, saying that she liked that name better.
"Miss Smith, There was a man who seemed to be looking for you" Hailey said. "He asked me if you were home and I told him I was pretty sure. He then thanked me and walked away." Really? What did he look like," Becky asked.
"He was black, tall and quite muscular, do you know anyone like that" Hailey asked. "I do " Becky replied. "Then why did he run off like that?" Hailey asked smiling at Becky with a questioning eye.
"Its not what you think Hailey, I would never have anything to do with that man". " Well then I'll go upstairs " Jessie said and walked away.
"Clinton Johnson, what is it you want from us" Becky thought to herself as she lay in the couch.
