The Sacrifice of Dar es Salaam's Drug Dealers
CHAPTER 1: THE PERFECT SACRIFICE "We must sacrifice one person to put an end to these rumors about our business," said an impeccably sharp-dressed Arab man. Standing before him were two other Arab men and a police officer. The officer quickly chimed in, "Hurry up with this matter. Even tomorrow will do, just make sure we bury this case as fast as possible." After giving his strict orders, the officer turned and left. Immediately, the Arab men called in a 25-year-old Tanzanian youth named Jafar. Jafar was ordered to find a greedy, desperate friend looking for quick success to be used as the sacrificial lamb. He was handed 15 million shillings on the spot, with a strict deadline to deliver the target within 11 hours. The clock was already ticking; it was 10:00 AM. With the bag of cash in hand, Jafar left Posta and headed straight to the streets of Temeke, the neighborhood where he was born and raised. The moment he arrived, a crowd began to gather around him. To the locals, Jafar was the ultimate success story—a young man who had struck it rich overnight, driving a luxury car and living the high life. But Jafar had a dark mission. His eyes were set on one specific target for his bosses: his old friend, Masta. When he reached Masta’s home, he was met with nothing but complaints and heavy hearts. After exchanging greetings, family members told him that Masta had just stormed out in a fit of rage after a bitter argument with his parents. They had humiliated him, screaming that he was a grown man who contributed absolutely nothing to the household. Masta used to work as a bodaboda rider, but even that motorcycle had been repossessed by his boss because he fell behind on his daily payments. It took Jafar nearly two agonizing hours to track Masta down. He finally found him clearing his head on a lonely bridge. "Life has become an absolute nightmare for me, my brother," Masta said bitterly, exhaling a thick cloud of m*******a smoke into the air. "What's the problem?" Jafar asked calmly. "You are my brother and my oldest friend, but ever since you made it big, you abandoned me. But hey, it is what it is." Jafar chuckled softly, stepping closer. "Your time is now, my friend. I’ve come to hand you the success you've been praying for. The only question is... will you accept it?" Masta immediately snubbed out his joint and stared intently at Jafar. Jafar began to pitch the job, spinning a web of lies about smuggling. He carefully hid the true nature of the cartel, claiming they weren’t trafficking illegal narcotics, but rather high-value, black-market hospital pharmaceuticals. Desperate for a way out, Masta accepted without a second thought, especially after being promised 2 million shillings and a brand-new motorcycle for his very first run. Masta followed Jafar straight to the luxurious Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro. They arrived at 3:00 PM and were ushered into a private meeting room. Inside, a high-stakes briefing was taking place. There were seven people in total: Masta, Jafar, three other young men just like them, a high-ranking Arab boss standing at the front, and a man next to him holding a pen and paper, throwing out screening questions. The man with the notepad began questioning the riders from left to right, heading toward Masta. The first rider was asked what kind of motorcycle he would use to transport the cargo. "A Suzuki Hayabusa, top speed of 312 km/h," he answered confidently. The second rider replied, "A Kawasaki H2, top speed of 300 km/h." The third stated, "I want a Kawasaki H2R, top speed of 400 km/h." Finally, the questions reached Masta at the very end. When asked about his choice, Masta spoke up: "I just want a Bajaj Boxer. Top speed is about 90 to 95 km/h." The entire room fell into a stunned silence. Everyone stared at him in utter disbelief. A standard, low-speed commuter bike was an absurd choice for the high-risk operation they were about to undertake. But because Masta was marked from the very beginning to be the fall guy—the ultimate sacrifice—nobody corrected him. Everyone in that room, except Masta himself, was in on the deadly plot. The meeting adjourned, and they headed down to the underground parking lot. Waiting for them beneath the dim lights were the exact motorcycles they had requested. "Are you absolutely sure you’re going to make it through with that bike, old man?" Jafar whispered, eyeing the Boxer. Masta simply nodded. They had already been assured that their routes were fully secured and free from police chases. However, a grim warning had been drilled into their heads: if a chase did happen and the cargo was seized, they had better ensure they died in the wreck. If they survived a bust, the bosses would hunt them down and finish the job anyway. With the brief complete, each rider was assigned a private room to rest and wait for the morning launch. The next day arrived, and the riders gathered one final time to receive their identical bags. As they loaded up, Jafar discreetly pulled out his phone and sent a coded text message to the corrupt police officer: "THEY ARE LEAVING NOW. TAKING THE USUAL ROUTES. MASTA WILL BE THE ONE PASSING THROUGH YOUR SECTION." To be continued... 🖋️
