CHAPTER THIRTY ONE Reid regained consciousness slowly. There was an intense headache at the front of his skull and he wasn’t sure where he was. He had been dreaming—if he could call it that. He had heard his daughters’ voices, happy and giggling. He’d heard sounds of waves gently crashing on the surf. He heard Kate’s light, wonderful laughter, and then a slight nervous edge to her voice as she called out to Maya to watch her footing on the breakwater.
