Chapter 39
Clara's POV
"Come on, honey", I led Nico into the bathroom, arranging a bath for him.
Ruby was hovering by the door, her expression filled with a great amount of guilt and shame.
"I'm sorry", she finally said after a few minutes of silence. "I shouldn't have lost him. It wasn't intentional."
My anger had dissipated at this point but I still felt a tinge of annoyance. If there was anyone I trusted more than anything to take care of Nico, it'd be Ruby. My anger stemmed from the fact that she was just as prone to mistakes as every other person.
"You don't have to apologise", I found myself saying. "All that matters is that we found Nico."
"Still...", Ruby fidgeted nervously with her fingers. "I asked to take him to the park and I did something crazy and then lost him..."
