Chapter Three - Fated Mates
Alpha Dominic's POV
"We need to find something, anything at all that can lure us to them." I say to Lyra, who just rolls her eyes in response. "Then what happens after that?" She raises a brow at me, pushing the tree branches away.
"We call a truce." I blurted out. Lyra turns to gaze at me with wide eyes. Are you kidding me right now, Dominic? "Did I just hear you say truce or perhaps did I mishear you?" Lyra shoots dagger glares at me. I shook my head in disagreement and replied to her with a straight face. "A truce, that is exactly what I said." I replied.
Are you f*****g crazy? Dude, those people killed some of us. They deserve to be destroyed. "Those irritating creatures called humans do not understand the concept of boundaries!" Lyra says through gritted teeth.
I sigh lowly. I understand her anger. I totally do, since all the humans did last night was wreak havoc, but at the same time, I also understand humans. Their attack was basically out of fear and insecurity. I can understand them because my mother used to be human too.
"And no, before you mention Kelsey your mother. She was different, she wasn't annoying and disgusting like the rest of those....."
My attention drifts away from Lyra's ranting the moment I sense a familiar scent from afar. I clutch my fist tight and hear the constant snapping of bones and low wails coming from that same direction.
"I think a wolf struggling with the full moon might be out there." I state, without wasting any more time, I scurry towards the direction and I halt in my steps with my eyes wide open as I realize who the culprit is. My heart begins to race extremely fast as our eyes lock gazes.
I feel this sudden electricity jolt through my veins and my stomach grumbles. It is the same girl from last night, the one that I might have accidentally bitten in order to save myself. I watch her cry out in pain as she struggles to shift into a wolf.
I feel a pang of guilt hit me as I realize that I am the one behind her predicament.
"Hey, it is that girl from last night, the one who almost killed you." Lyra points at the girl. I gulp a lump down my throat as I watch her fall flat to the floor with tears rolling down her cheeks. Surprisingly for me, I feel tears prick from the corner of my eyes as well. Why do I feel so much pity for her?
Why do I feel connected to her?
Lyra's next action takes me off guard. She rushes in the direction of the girl and picks up the bow and arrow beside her. Lyra points it in her direction and almost fires it at herself, but I hastily snatch the weapon from Lyra and break it into two.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I snap at her.
She is clearly a monster now. Trust me, when she gains consciousness, I bet you that she will kill herself immediately. "I am only doing her a favour since some random wolf bit her." Lyra snaps back at me.
I sighed heavily. "I bit her, I did it." I blurted out.
Lyra's eyes widened in shock. "Are you kidding me, Dominic? "What did you do to her?" Lyra's mouth hangs open in disbelief.
"I did it to save myself, which I am beginning to regret. The point is that we can not let her struggle. "You know the werewolf rules, an Alpha is to tend to his Beta and, aside from that, there is something fishy about her." I mutter my last statement in a low tone.
After so much persuasion from me, Lyra helped me take her back to the pack house. She makes some concoction that helps the girl shift back to her human form.
Lyra places her in my room and leaves to prepare more concoctions that will help her heal from the marks she caused on herself while struggling to shift to the full moon. In the meantime, I can not help but stare at her sleep.
My hands reach for her straight brunette hair and I caress it gently. Her rosy cheeks are puffed up, and her pink lips are curled into a pout. Damn, she is effortlessly gorgeous. I run a hand through my hair in frustration and ponder deeply on this sudden attraction I feel towards her.
In the next few minutes, I fall into a deep sleep while watching her and I get a revelation from the Moon goddess. She appears to me in the form of a moon, her voice thunderous and her light reflecting so bright.
"Dominic, son of Kelsey and King Robin. I have summouned you tonight to make it clear to you that the lady over there, Kaida, daughter of Vanessa and Floyd, is your destined mate. She is the one for you. Take good care of her and make sure you keep her close."
"Now it is time for you to wake up."
I snap my eyes open, jolting out of my slumber. My eyes come in contact with the warmest brown eyes and my heart begins to race extremely fast.
A confused look appears on her face, matching the same glare on mine. Destined mate? Is that some kind of joke? I shudder at the thought of that, this is probably just a misunderstanding.
I watched the girl's eyes. Kaida's eyes widen in fear as she slowly takes a few steps backward. All of a sudden, she screams loudly, taking me off guard.
"Calm down!" I growl angrily.
"Where the hell am I and what did you do to me?" She spits out bitterly.
I gulp a lump down my throat and scoff at myself in frustration. I do not know which is worse, having her as my mate or having her as my beta?
Well, this is going to be one hell of a ride.
