Chapter One - The Bite
Kaida’s POV
“We attack the Silver System pack tonight!” Kaid screams enthusiastically. I watched how everyone gathered in front of him cheered and made roaring noises in excitement.
I, on the other hand, sit in the corner with a racing heart. The Silver System pack triggers memories, memories that I never want to remember.
“We burn the ground to ashes and take their Alpha as our slave! Alpha Dominic will be ours finally!” The determined grin plastered on Kaid’s face is what scares me the most. He looks so courageous that he is beginning to fear me.
Kaid and I do not have a very good history with the Silver System pack. Alpha Dominic’s father, Lycan King Robin was the one responsible for the death of our parents. They murdered our parents when we were just five.
Ever since then, Kaid and I have grown this unexplainable hate for werewolves. I want them to pay, I want them to suffer, and I want them to go extinct for oppressing humanity.
No werewolf deserves to live because there is no good werewolf out there.
Suddenly, I feel a gentle tap on my shoulder jolting me out of my thoughts. I snapped my head up to gaze at Kaid.
“Hey…” he pauses to grin widely. “How was the speech? Rate it out of ten.” Kaid gestures to me to go ahead.
“A bit too extreme?” I leaned backward a bit because I knew Kaid was going to be offended by the way I rated his speech.
One thing I have realized is that I have always been living in the shadows of Kaid. I mean, I like hunting werewolves. I want them to face justice but not as deep as Kaid makes it seem. He is hellbent on destroying them in the most cruel ways ever. I would just prefer they are locked up far away so that humans can live in peace.
Although my thoughts only remain my thoughts, I am too afraid to voice them out because Kaid might be disappointed in me.
I notice how a huge scowl grows on his face. “Is that really what you think about my speech?” He raises a brow at me.
I choked out a nervous laughter and shook my head in disagreement. “No dummy. Quit being a sour wolf. I was just kidding, your speech was amazing,” I say, smiling at him.
Kaid smiles back at me. “Then it means you are prepared. "Follow me, I have something important to give you.” Kaid says, without waiting for my response, he begins to walk towards the chamber room where our meetings are held.
My brows furrowed in confusion as I slowly trailed him from behind. I step into the small space and I meet Kaid standing by the window with a shiny double-edged sword.
“What is that?” I point at the sword, my tone laced with curiosity. Kaid clears his throat and slowly approaches me. “This is a gift from me to you, Kaida.” Kaid says in a serious tone.
He stretches his hand out and hands me the sword. I stare at the object with so much awe. This is indeed beautiful, but I just do not understand.
“Why are you giving me this?” I ask.
“Tonight is the day we bring justice to the killer of our parents. We have fought so hard and trained up to this moment, Kaida. You have been strong, courageous, hardworking and resilient. "Words can not express how much I am so proud of you!” Kaid says. I can see so much sincerity in his eyes, and it makes me nervous. Where is he driving to?
“Why does this sound like you are saying goodbye?” I ask with a shaky breath.
“No sister. This is the beginning of a new era. "I want you to have that sword because I want you to have the honor of killing Alpha Dominic tonight,” Kaid deadpans.
“What?” I yelled, my eyes widening in shock and the sword in my hand falling flat to the floor, causing it to make an echoing noise.
"Hey, treat that sword with respect, I bought it with a lot of money,” Kaid says, reaching for the sword and picking it up in haste.
“No.” I shook my head in disagreement and disdain.
“What do you mean no?” Kaid shoots a dagger and glares at me.
I feel my heart race extremely fast in fear as just the thought of killing someone causes me to shiver in fear.
“No, I am not going to kill anyone, Kaid. "I can not do that.” I cried out. Kaid scoffs and shakes his head at me. “What are you saying, Kaida? It is time to bring justice to the killer of our parents! "Why are you chickening out like a weakling!” He yells at me.
“I just can’t! "Go ahead and call me whatever you like, but I refuse.” I pause. “Thanks for the sword, but I won’t be needing it.” I slowly begin to walk out of the chamber room, but Kaid’s next words cause me to halt in my steps.
“Mum and Dad would want you to do better.”
Kaid’s words rang in my head up till nightfall. We assemble in front of the Silver System pack house and Kaid gives instructions to everyone but me.
We get into formation and the war begins. I watch the blood of innocent lives splatter around, the battle gets bloody.
“We have to retreat!” I yell with teary eyes. Everything happens so fast. The werewolves are stronger than we are.
“No!” Kaid paused to toss the sword in my direction, which I hastily caught. “Take down the Alpha, Kaida! If you take him down, then the other werewolves go down.”
My entire body shivers as I realize that the fate of my people is in my hands.
My people make way for me to draw closer to the Alpha. I am one step away from stabbing him with the sword.
What should I do?
I gazed at Kaid. He was brutally injured. I gaze at my people, all of them look desperate and lost.
I grabbed the Alpha by the collar of his shirt. Our eyes meet, and I suddenly feel electricity course through my veins.
Something about him is mysterious. Starring into his emerald green eyes makes me never want to look away.
“Kaida! Come on! What are you waiting for?”
I snap out of my thoughts immediately, but it is too late to do anything. I watched the Alpha dig his fangs into my neck, biting me aggressively.
What happens when a human gets bitten by a wolf?
