Aubrey groaned as the sunlight that forced it's way into her room through the window hit her eyes. She quickly glanced at the time. Ah, 7:40, she still had time....Wait! she rechecked the time. Oh no! She was going to be late for her first day of senior year! She quickly jumped out of bed and dashed to the bathroom. Fixing her contacts and grabbing her inhaler and her backpack, she hurried downstairs. She saw a note from her parents which said,'Enjoy your day, honey.' Asmile made its way to her face. Taking a granola bar, she walked to the garage only to realize she had left her car keys in her room. She hurried back for them and finally she set off. She drove not so calmly to school, getting there just as the bell rang for the start of lessons. She went for her timetable and hurried to class. 'Late on your first day? That's a very bad start.' Ms. Hopkins said as she entered. She mumbled an apology and found somewhere to sit. Aubrey was relieved when the bell rang, signifying the end of the class rang. She dashed out of the class and made her way to the next. As she was walking, she felt the presence of two people, one on each side. ''Are you okay?" Delia asked her . She nodded. 'i'm fine' she responded. 'Are you sure' Dylan asked her. 'Yes' she replied. 'Okay, if you say so.' Dylan and Delia both responded at the same time. 'You know this talking at the same time thing you do is really weird.' I told them. 'Well, we can't help it sometimes.' Delia replied, and Dylan nodded in agreement. See you after class, I say, and they wave as I enter my class. Thankfully, I wasn't late for this one. Time goes by like the speed of a sloth, but finally, it's lunch time. I was famished, so I rushed to the hall to buy my lunch. Carefully carrying my tray, I made my way over to my table, which I guess you could call the popular table. And yes, I was popular. Is that hard to believe? because I'm not joking. My high school had different types of people, just like any other school. And I happened to be popular, but this popularity was as a result of my brothers. My eldest brother James was popular, which made Jaxon, Jason and Mason popular, which,, made me by relation popular. That makes sense... right? And before you ask yes, I am the last and only girl amongst four boys. Moving on.... My table was not just any table, my table comprised some of the most raw talent in the school. From sports to baking to fashion design to art to dance, you could find them all on my table. As I sat, Dylan and David began to play food toss, and I watched them with amusement as I ate my lunch. 'Coach wants to meet us after school'.Sofia told me and I nodded, thanking her. I was in the school's girls' basketball team. Sporting abilities run through my siblings and I, even though both our parents did not exactly like sports in their days. After school, we all trooped to the basketball court to meet Coach. 'Welcome, girls.' Coach said. 'My reason for wanting to meet you is very simple. It was time to choose a new captain for the team, she concluded. We gave a loud cheer. 'I will be selecting based on your performance and the qualities you possess. All the best to you all. The selection process starts tomorrow at our very first practice session of the new academic year. You may go now. See you tomorrow and remember, no lateness! ' 'Yes Coach' we responded, leaving the court. 'Can Dylan and I catch a ride with you?Delia asked. Samantha is not well so David is going to see her, she continued. ' Sure ' I replied. 'Thanks. ' Delia said. 'But I'm stopping at Dina's diner to get some food.' I informed her. Okay, she responded. I went in the direction of my car whilst she went to go and find Dylan. I stood by the car waiting for them. 'Shotgun', I heard Delia shout as she ran towards me. I laughed as Dylan sulked and got in the backseat. We made small talk as I drove to the diner. Dina's diner had a vintage look and a homely feel. I love it here because of the homely feel and, of course, the food.' I'll have a beef sandwich, fries and a coke, I told the waitress. 'Same' Dylan said. I'll have a beef burger with fries and apple juice. Delia ordered. 'I hope, as you're ordering, you have money to pay.' Dylan said. 'Good concern, ' Delia started, and I let out a laugh. 'I was hoping that my sweet brother would not hesitate to pay my portion of the bill.' She said, looking at him hopefully. 'I'll think about it', he said. 'Thanks, you're so kind,' she said, giving him a side hug. I laughed, earning a scowl from him. I went home to an empty house, nothing out of the ordinary. I went to my room, jumped on my bed and decided to call Jaxon. 'I see someone is missing me already', Jaxon said on the other end of the line. 'Hello to you too.' I said. 'How was your first day of senior year?' 'It was okay, although I was late.' 'You don't cherish me , now see.' 'My personal alarm clock, I now see your relevance .' 'I knew it was just a matter of time before you saw my relevance.' 'Uh huh.' 'Yeah.' 'Ummm, so Coach is going to choose the captain for the basketball team.' 'You've got this!Okay?' 'Okay' 'Brie, I have to go now. I'll talk to you later.' 'Alright then, bye!' 'Bye.' ---- Jaxon had very unorthodox ways of waking me up every morning. Even though it annoyed me to no end, I realized that if he had been here this morning, I would not have been late. I decided to go and practice a little. All of my brothers were in the basketball team , and all of them were captains. We have an outdoor basketball court in our house, so picking up my b-ball, I headed out with my headphones on. After warming up, I started to practice. There is the saying that practice makes perfect. Another saying is that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, and I didn't want someone to work hard and beat me. I jumped, successfully putting the ball through the hoop, and as I was landing, I landed on my left foot and fell. I hissed, refusing to feel the pain. Motivating myself, I stood, limping towards the door. I made my way straight to the fridge and after picking up an ice pack, I sat on the couch and placed the ice pack on my leg. There was no way this could happen now. I could not afford to miss the first practice session.
