Chap 13 – The Familiar Comfort

862 Words
EVA POV       Waking up weak and tired to a familiar sharp white light only tells me one thing. I blacked out. Again. The Richardsons’ were there to greet me when I woke up on Monday. I learned that they rushed to me when they received my call but no answer from me. Leo was already barking as he made his way to their house. Understanding Leo’s untimely call, Stev rushed to the garage to bring the car and transport me to the hospital.        Dr Steel checked my vitals and said that I was stable. I’ve been in here for three days now. He still wanted me to stay checked in until the reports get back. The Richardson family have been my only visitors since my parents. It was after visiting hours that I sat back and recollect on what happened that led me to this bed.       ‘I went inside my house to retire for the night. It has been an emotional Saturday. I checked my bedside table for medicines and water. Seeing everything in place, I laid back and fell asleep with Leo at the foot of my bed.        The memories of my parents rolled in. The times we spent laughing and crying together was a beautiful sight. My parents chasing a younger version of me made me smile. Then the scene took a 180 turn and the nightmare of the accident started to haunt me. Me crying for them, begging them to wake up and not to leave me as I cry and shout repeatedly…       That was when I was pushed to wake up by Leo. He was barking at me but I could not register what was going on. I could see his muzzle barking at me but only to sharp ringing in my ear was heard. I was palpitating. I tried to reach for my medications and the glass of water with my shaky hands. It accidentally slipped of the table and shattered to the ground. By this time my breathing was extremely difficult and my heart was beating at rapid rate. I tried reaching for the emergency phone Mrs. Richardson gave me from my drawer. Leo tried to calm me down however I was beyond repair at this stage. I pressed the speed dial for her number when my movement start to slowly cease. I drop the phone on my bed when I started seeing black spots and I started to lose grip. The last I remember Leo hopping off the bed and ran out of my room. I succumb to darkness knowing Leo will contact the rightful people to help. ‘       It was Wednesday when Stan and Stev, the Richardson twins shared some disturbing information. Disturbing for them though it did not come as a shock to me. They expressed their concern towards what was happening but I told them not to worry. They left unsatisfied. The reports came out fine on Thursday. Though my progress is slow, they were happy that I was still responding to medications. Dr Steel told me that I could be discharged the next day.        It was late afternoon when Stan and Stev filled me in on the update of their finding. I was surprise to know someone of that stature had tabs on me. I requested them to take me for dinner before I had to show up at the club. They were reluctant to let me go to work. Nevertheless, I insisted as I know I won’t be able to do this any longer once my body stops responding to the treatments. They gave in and pressed on driving me to and from the club today.       I was surprise when Mike came up to me just as I finish my session at the club. He requested for me to stay back for a few minutes as he wanted to introduce me to someone. Putting two and two together I understood who it could possibly be.    “Please tell HIM that we’ll sure meet soon” I said politely and joined Stan and Stev to head home.                     ********  “I don’t think this is wise Ev.”   “Stan’s right. I second him. I think we should call the cops” Stev said agreeing with his brother.   “Guys, I love you both and thank you for caring but there is nothing alarming here. I will talk to him when I see him. If things go south, I’ll inform you guys. After all, I have nothing to loose” I say positively.       I hugged them at my doorstep and waved them goodbye as they walked to their house. I then looked around my street when I caught sight of the same shaded ocean-blue eyes watching me intently from an expensive car hidden slightly into the shadow. His eyes sent me waves of calmness. I knew he was not a danger the first time I saw him and my opinion still stands.     I walked into my house and locked the door behind me. I wondered what would he do? I switched off all the lights in the house and made my way to the back of my house.  'It’s time to find out what you’re doing here' i whispered to myself.   EKON VALERIO KEATS
