01: A night to not remember
~MELANIE HILLS~
After several moments of contemplation, I decided to show him. I gulped down the spit that had accumulated in my mouth, choking on it.
"What are you doing just sitting there?" He questioned with an arched brow. "You certainly didn't call me just to look at my face."
"No I didn't."
"Then get to it already." He commanded but calmly. He slouched forward and picked up the half empty glass of red wine on the table then sipped from it. "I'm a really busy man and you know that." He said as he carefully returned the glass to the table that stood in our middle.
Busy sleeping with your colleagues that is.
I cleared my throat and adjusted in my seat. I reached for my bag and took out an enveloped file and slid it across the table.
"What is this?" He asked with a mouth full of steak.
"Why don't you check it out." I shot him with a flinty look and my arms crossed.
He eyed me and the envelope, he took a napkin and wiped his mouth before picking it up. Still savoring the taste of his meal, he opened the envelope and took out the white sheet hidden inside.
After a short while of accessing its specifics, he scoffed, "is this a joke?"
"I don't see what is so funny about it."
He started to chuckle then it turned into a guffaw.
"Do you think this is funny?" I scoffed loudly, already fuming.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry, it's just--" he wiped the streak of tears that fell from his eyes, "-- I mean I know you're a lawyer and all but… a divorce?" He frowned.
"Yes… it is what I want."
"Who gave you this foolish advice?"
"As you know, I am also a legal advisor, I give myself advice." I smiled. I raised my glass to my mouth and sipped from it, trying my best to hide my nervousness.
"This is bullshit!" He slammed at the table, making me jump in my seat but I instantly played cool. "Can you tell me why exactly you want to file for a divorce uh? One reason!" He exclaimed.
"No you! You give me one reason to stay huh? Just one."
He scowled. "You saying this only means you have been faking to be in love with me."
"No I loved you Kai! I did faithfully but ever since we got married, you changed." I tried to sound strong, wanting to hide the pain in my voice.
"How so Melanie? Marriage of six years!"
"Do you even still care about me? While you're busy sleeping with your colleagues, do you remember me?"
"--Enough of your nonsense!" He bawled with his hand smacking loudly against the table.
I could feel the eyes of everyone on me but I somehow managed to remain calm. "Just sign the document Kai." I forced the words out of my mouth as I struggled to fight my tears.
He exhaled sharply, "you want a divorce? Sure, I'll sign it." I slid a pen across the table and he picked it up. With a firm grip on the pen, "was tired of this childless marriage anyway." He mumbled underneath his voice as he scribbled his signature onto the paper. He clutched the paper in his fist and squeezed it then threw it at my face as he got up, "dinner is on me tonight--" he took out a few dollars from his wallet and placed it on the table, "--since it'll be our last together." He clicked his tongue at me with a wink.
I sat in my seat and watched him casually stroll out of the restaurant, for some reason, I hadn't gotten the satisfaction I pined.

"Another shot!" I ordered the bartender. "Make it double."
"Yes ma'am."
The whole universe gyrated around my head, questioning me about the decision I just made which made me befuddled.
He slid the shot to me and I gulped it down at once.
"Can the beautiful lady tell me why she is drinking so much?" A mannish voice uttered to me as he sat next to me.
I turned and noticed an appealing stranger right next to me, looking so gallant without even trying. He shifted his gaze from the glass in his wandering hand to me and his lips curved into an august smile. His ocean blue squinting eyes stared into mine and I felt my insides tingle.
"I'll be making payments for her drink." He told the bartender and he nodded. "Is it okay if I drink with you?" He asked me.
I peered at him for a hesitant minute, "sure."
"Thanks." He smiled. He took a sip from the glass of booze in his hand and gently placed it on the table. "Can I ask why a pretty lady like you is drinking all by herself? It's very dangerous to be all alone, drunk in the streets of New York."
"I'll be driving home."
"That's even worse, drunk driving would cost you."
"I know that, I'm an attorney." I smiled.
"Wow! It's an honor."
"Thanks, what about you?"
"I'm… my own boss." He beamed at me.
"That's nice."
"Care to share why you look like a disorganized bedroom? Did you lose a case or something?"
I sighed. "I didn't, I just divorced my husband."
"Hmm, I'm being charged with r**e with a girl I barely even know." He raised his glass to his mouth and swallowed its content at once. I bit hard at my lips as I watched the movement of his adam's apple as he gulped down his drink.
Maybe because I was stoned but I was awfully attracted to this stranger and for some reason, I felt he felt the same way too. "Maybe I can help you relax." I flirtatiously said. I bit hard at my lower lips the instant the words flew out of my mouth. I thought to myself, "he'd think I'm no different from a prostitute!" But he looked rather pleased than irritated.
"And how do you plan on doing that?" He asked in a sedative tone, with an arched brow.
"By giving you a massage, my hands work wonders."
He stared at me then bursted into laughter, revealing his perfect white set of teeth. "You don't want to know what I was thinking." His extra sharp incisor peeked at me through his smile and I couldn't help but to stare.
I joined in with the laughter that lasted only a few moments before we were both hit in the face by reality, reminding us why we were getting drunk in the first place.
"Why did you get a divorce?" He asked with his eyes narrowed down at the glass in his hand.
"A lot of reasons that I really want to forget."
"I get it, let me help you out. Let's drink and dance till we get kicked out." He suggested with a smile.
"I like that." I chuckled.
We did drink and dance till we got kicked out. I was too drunk to know what was going on but the last thing I remembered was him, driving me and then carefully placing me on a bed.

The sound of my phone ringing vibrated through my head, making the migraine more serious than it was. I groaned as I managed to sit up in bed. "Ugh my brain is ringing… wait… where am I?" I asked myself as I scanned the room with my eyes.
I turned and noticed the figure of a man right next to me on the bed and that was when I realized I was naked. "Oh my…" I gasped with my hand over my mouth.
I didn't know where I was or as much as a flashback of what happened in the room. Suddenly an image flashed before my eyes, I remembered him lying on top of me with his lips pressed against mine, his bare chest against mine. "Oh my goodness!" I cried into my palms as I remembered how much I enjoyed the warmth of his body. "What did I do? Did we really?" I remembered taking off my own clothes but then it all became dark.
My phone started to ring again and I picked up immediately, hoping this handsome stranger wouldn't wake up. "Mr Brown! Why call so early in the morning?" I whispered.
"What? It's twelve in the afternoon!"
"What?" I instantly checked the time and it was true.
"That's not the point anyway. There's an emergency and you need to get here right now!"
"Yes sir… what could have happened?"
