In the shower the following morning, all I could think about was that I had to thank Chance. My neck hurt from sleeping on it weird in our pile on the couch, and I let the hot spray pound into it. The lodge had better water pressure than my apartment, natural disaster or not. I climbed out of the shower and picked my way through our wrecked belongings to finish getting ready for the day.
