In an earthly society split between absolutes, a tentative balance is struck between the seraphic forces of the Glorious Realm and the daemonic denizens
of the Chaotic Realm with mankind between;
where a single soul could herald the end of this era of diplomatic twilight.
Ascendancy is considered sacred, a gift bestowed by the Head Bishop only given at the end of a lifetime of glorious service, the ultimate carrot would
naturally hide any stick.
After all, who else but the Head Bishop could entreat a seraphim to descend from the Glorious Realm, and share a fragile human body...
Once referred to by the heretics as a simple possession, Ascendancy was so much more, a complete melding of an imperfect soul with a perfect soul,
resulting in a physical form which was but a pale imitation of the cosmic strength lurking beneath.
Ascendants changed the world as explosively as the stray spark to the drying forest, it is said that every major war humankind fought had been led
in one way or the other by an Ascendant
Yet to speak of balance one must speak equally of the radiance of the day and the haunting music of the night.
The fleeting breath that is mankind's very existence depended not on any earthly action or conscience, but on an agreement made since the great
Exuviation and the subsequent Ethereal Doctrines followed this event.
Ethereal Doctrine
1. There shall be no new Ascendant of either the Glorious Realm or the Chaotic Realm without an opposite Ascendant to maintain the balance.
2. An Ascendant must be of sound mind and body and willingly offer his or her own soul for Ascendancy.
3. All prospective ascendants must be endorsed by a minimum of two priests, with five witnesses.
Alas for the best laid plans of mice,men, ascendants and gods, for the miracle that is human creativity is infinite, and the tragedy of hubris
even more so.
