DARREN
“Wait here, I'm going to meet that punk.”
I made sure Eve was inside the restaurant again and then I chased after someone who was taking pictures of us with a camera secretly.
After all, taking pictures without permission is violating other people's rights. Moreover, he also ruined the romantic moment I tried so hard to create with Eve.
Damn, that guy should be taught a lesson.
He ran into a small alley between two buildings.
I had to stop him, so I took some snow and rounded it up and threw it at his head until he fell to the ground.
The man was still trying to get up but I had already taken his camera.
What surprised me was that he had taken several photos not only of Eve and I watching the aurora, but of us while skiing as well.
I'm sure this guy was sent by someone because there's no way he would have voluntarily followed us. The cost of traveling here isn't cheap, so someone must have funded it and that person must be someone who doesn't care about money.
“How much did you pay to follow us here?”
I erased some of the photos on the camera.
The man tried to grab the camera but I beat him down.
I threw the camera until the lens came off.
“Who sent you?”
He remained silent, apparently not wanting to open his mouth. So I crouched down and grabbed him by the neck.
“Should I cut out your tongue so you can't really talk?”
“Sorry… I'm just carrying out orders from someone,” he replied stammeringly.
I tightened my grip even more.
“Who?”
“Vega… Walton.”
Damn, that woman knows about my relationship with Eve.
Probably she's also monitoring my penthouse because Eve hasn't been out since that night.
I take the camera and smash it. f**k everyone who tried to interfere with my relationship.
“I have sent you some pictures,” the guy said.
Shit!
Well, if she's so desperate to know about my love life too, then I'll grant her wish. I'll tell the whole world that Eve and I are married.
But before that, I want to ask Eve's permission.
I pulled the man into the restaurant where Eve was waiting. His battered face made everyone look at him with astonishment.
“Oh my God, what happened? You beat him up?”
Eve also looked shocked.
To be honest, I was too lazy to use violence, but this guy was uncompromising from the start. He only spoke up after I threatened and hit him.
I sighed. “He's my mother's man.”
Eve covered her mouth with her hands. Sorry Eve, I failed to hide your identity from my family.
“I want to ask your permission, since we have been caught, I want to announce publicly that you are my wife. This time I don't want rejection.”
I took Eve's hand and grasped it tightly.
“It's better for us to make an announcement about our relationship than let anyone else.”
“But I'm not ready for the public reaction,” Eve replied with resignation.
I wanted to convince her that public opinion didn't matter to me.
“We're in this relationship, so other people's opinions don't matter.”
Eve bit her lip.
“Don't do that, you'll bleed.”
I gently wiped her lips.
Meanwhile, the man was about to run away, but I tackled his feet until he fell to the floor.
“You're a journalist, right? Write the news right now that Darren Vega Walton has married Eve Jaden Lauder.”
The man shook with fear and sat up to do my bidding.
“You're here to write that story, right? Then you don't have to work with my mother anymore, I'll pay you more and write the news on my orders. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand,” he answered quickly.
I thought that by having my own house and leaving the main house, I would be free from my father and mother, but it wasn't to be. I don't know what was going through their minds, maybe they thought I could be managed like their son.
I tried to organize my thoughts so I wouldn't get carried away. Then I calmed Eve down by gently patting her back.
Eve must not have thought that our relationship would be exposed to the public so soon. But what else, to avoid future rumors, it was better to reveal our relationship now.
I don't know how many women have been rumored to be with me and they were all lies. So I don't want there to be such news in the future and affect Eve's mind. I don't want any misunderstandings between us.
Considering that my relationship with Eve is just starting again, and we've also been separated for many years. So I'm worried that the rumors will shake Eve's trust in me.
Journalists out there are money-mad, they don't care what kind of news they write, as long as they get a hot topic, it will be released immediately. It makes me sick.
Eve looked at me sadly.
“You promise to be my defense if someone attacks me after the news is released?”
I nodded firmly.
“I will always be your shield, any attacks aimed at you either online or offline will be dealt with. Don't worry.”
Eve nodded and smiled slightly. Her eyes were not as cheerful as before, though to be able to make her smile freely like before was not easy. But the man who sent it to my mother messed it up.
I'll meet that woman when I get back to Los Angeles.
Instead, I kicked the chair the paparazzi was sitting on.
“Write that I'm very proud to marry my wife, she's the woman I've been chasing since high school and she's my first love. You have to write it correctly.”
“Yes, I will write it like that.”
