Chapter 8: Honeymoon or Reunion

1152 Words
DARREN “Please put it down, she just closed her eyes.” I forbade the flight attendant to wake Eve up. She was sleepy after ordering a meal. Eve had just slept and I knew she hadn't slept yesterday until our wedding this morning. So I wanted Eve to sleep well. It's not the first time I've watched Eve sleep, and I've always been hypnotized by her. How could anyone hurt a woman as kind, sweet, and beautiful as Eve? She didn't even deserve that injustice. I wanted to hug her so badly and put her head in my arms. I wanted to hold her while she slept, but I didn't want to force Eve either. So I could only watch her sleep from my chair. I took out the polaroid camera that I still kept as a gift from Eve on my birthday in the past. Eve knows very well that I don't like capturing moments into photos because I don't think it's necessary. But she made me realize that I need to capture those beautiful moments because when I'm old, I might forget them and all I'll have left are the photos I took. From there I came to understand how much Eve cared about me. She made me want to always be with her because of her thoughts. I liked it when Eve told me things I didn't know before. One photo was taken. It takes a while for the image to appear. And when it did, it was so beautiful that I couldn't look away. “Why are you smiling like crazy?” I immediately pressed my lips shut. It turned out that Eve was already awake and I didn't realize. “You forgot to turn off the light. It makes my eyes glare,” she explained. Oh my God, I just realized. Sorry Eve, I didn't mean to disturb your sleep. Eve snatched the photo I took and her eyes bulged. “Why are you taking pictures of me when my hair is a mess?” She scrunched up her waist. “Why? You look beautiful. I don't care if your hair is a mess or not, you're always stunning in my eyes.” I thought I was going to get a shy smile from Eve, but instead I got a punch in my arm. She moved so quickly and returned to her seat still carrying the photo. “You don't know what women think, it's different from what you think,” she scolded. Ah, I really had no idea. But wouldn't someone we love look gorgeous no matter what? I don't know if Eve doesn't think so. “I'll keep it,” she said. She put the photo in her purse. I wanted to take the photo with me, but fine, I can take another one. Anything I would give for Eve. “Eat, you must be hungry.” I pointed to the table in front of her. She only ordered a small amount of food which made me worry that it wouldn't fill her up. “Order more, you have to eat a lot.” Eve didn't answer me again, she was already enjoying her food. But that's funny, I'm sure she'll order more. Eve really likes to eat, she can eat a lot even more than me sometimes. And I always love it when I see her eating with gusto. She's not a picky eater either, she really appreciates every meal that's given to her. Sorry Eve, I left you alone for more than 6 years. I should have been able to see you eat every day if fate had been on our side. ***** “Be careful.” I was honestly afraid Eve would fall in the snow as she ran towards our hostel. She looked so happy, running around like a child again. I think making Eve happy is very simple, just by taking her to see the aurora borealis. The tour guide said the aurora was expected to appear tonight, when the night sky is darker. So to wait for that time to come, I accompanied Eve who wanted to try downhill skiing at Girdwood. And she looks like it's not her first time here. I ran to catch up with her. “Have you been here before? Eve shook her head quickly. "I did some research on the internet. And this place is one of my destinations if I go to see the aurora borealis.” “Really?” I brought myself closer to Eve. I took her hand and blew on it. “You're not cold?” “Ugh come on Darren, are you worried?” “Yeah, I'm worried you're cold. And also, are you sure you can make it down this icy hill?” I pointed to the area down there which from where we were standing at this moment, it looked pretty high. “I'll give it a try,” she replied confidently. Somehow I wasn't convinced by Eve's answer. So I wanted to show her how to ski. “Look carefully, I'll give you an example.” I made Eve face me. Then I prepared to ski. Skiing was easy for me because I had tried it so many times, especially in this place after becoming part of the Walton family. So to land at the bottom of the hill, I can do it smoothly. I went back up to help Eve slide. “Are you ready?” I asked to make sure. “Yes, I'm ready.” “You need to concentrate and focus, okay?” I still couldn't bear to let Eve go. “When are you going to help me put the skis on?” Eve rolled her eyes. Okay Darren, you just need to keep an eye on Eve and stop her immediately when she slides and can't stop. Finally after fighting with my mind, I decided to help Eve attach her feet to the skis. I didn't forget to give her the sticks that I held tightly in both of her hands. “Use the sticks to balance yourself as you slide. Don't rush, just be safe, okay?” Eve nodded. And I started to let go. But things went unexpectedly, completely unexpectedly. I thought Eve would immediately slide down while showing off her skills to me. Instead, as she moved her stick and her skis, her legs trembled the entire time she was moving. I couldn't stop myself from laughing. I felt like I could pee my pants seeing Eve like that. She was really funny. “Don't laugh at me!” she snapped. I can't, I lose control of myself and end up falling in the snow. And suddenly, a snowball fell on my face. “Feel that!” I was still giggling while trying to get up to get Eve. “Come here, daddy's sweet girl.”
