The Luna

“Hello, I am speaking with Zale?” “What do you want?” “Uhm, it's Astrid, and we need to talk?” “Who?” “Astrid. The girl you saved four weeks ago?” “I do that a lot. You need to be more specific.” “In a bar? Then you took me to a hotel? And stuff happened,” “What stuff?” My face flushed with embarrassment. Is he kidding me? “What sort of man w***e are you?” I yelled through the phone. “Chill feisty pants. I was just pulling your legs.” He chuckled. A very soft chuckle. “I see you've changed your mind.” He added. “Actually, there is a problem. Can we meet?” “Sure. Where are you? I'll send someone to come get you,” his tone changed to a serious one immediately. “I'll send you the address. Thank you.” I said, happy that he didn't have a problem with meeting me. I sent the address and in less than an hour, a car was waiting for me. The ride was smooth and luxurious, I wished it didn’t end so quickly, but it did. We were back in that same hotel. “You live in a hotel?” Was the first thing I asked when he entered. “Something like that.” He said, taking a seat. Thinking about Zale makes me so confused. He owns a luxurious car and according to his card, a successful business, plus, he literally lives in a hotel! How does this same person need to get married for a job? It's not making any sense. But then, it's none of my business. “So, are you ready for the wedding?” He asked. My eyes widened. “Chill, I need to tell you something first.” The air was stuffy suddenly. “I'm listening…” “The thing is, I just found out I am pregnant!” I was looking directly into his eyes, just to catch his reaction. But there was none. His face was blank. “The baby is yours,” I added and this time, he blinked twice. “What?” He was definitely not expecting this. “Look, I know it's weird and a bit unbelievable, but I swear it has to be you.” I didn't know what to make of the reaction on his face. “The reason my husband cheated and divorced me was because I couldn't give him an heir two years after our marriage.” “Well someone needs to tell that man he is the problem.” Zale chuckled. How can one find anything funny in this situation? “Our encounter that night was the first and last I had with any man.” My lips were trembling at this point. “It's okay. Don't cry.” He said holding my hands as he tried to digest the information. “I know it's a lot. But…” “It's okay Astrid, Let's do this.” he said. “It's still going to be a contract marriage. I just want my baby to have a father.” I explained. “Deal.” … We stayed two more days at the hotel because Zale was putting things in place for us. The day for us to return to Sage Falls came and my heart kept beating at the thought of what people would say once they hear I am married again. My worries increased when Zale explained the details of our marriage agreement. “I need a wife because that is the only way I can become Alpha.” He said. I almost choked on my saliva. “Alpha of what?” I asked, a disbelieving laugh escaping my lips. “Sage falls. And you are to be my Luna.” He didn't think it was a big deal? Everyone would want to know who the new Alpha’s wife is. “So you are the late Alpha's son?” I asked wide eyed. It was all making sense. “Zale Alvarez” was boldly written on his card. How did I miss that? Oh god. He did not grow up with the Alpha and we only heard about his existence before the Alpha’s demise. “The point is, no one should know we are faking this. You are now Mrs Astrid Alvera. The Luna of Sage Falls.” I did not want to believe it but had no choice when the car parked in the Alpha’s Villa. The workers came and showed me to my room while Zale went to speak with the pack elders. He showed them our marriage certificate and other necessary evidence. Including a bizarre picture we took this morning. “Get dressed, we need to meet with the pack leaders, together.” Zale said walking into the room. I took a shower, then picked a silver colored dress soaked in beautiful glitters and real stones. “Wow,” Zale said from behind the mirror. He held my hands and led me downstairs. People assembled in rows waiting to see the new Alpha and Luna. Each step I took, my heart skipped a beat. Is this a good idea? I thought. I felt like turning around and running off when I set my eyes on two people whom I don't want to ever see. Jacob and Talia, standing in the front row, waiting for us. I was too foolish to remember the fact that Jacob is the Beta. He would keep working with the new Alpha. “Sage Falls, I present to you, your new Alpha, Zale Alvarez and his beautiful Luna, Astrid Alvarez.” The room fell silent, all eyes glued to me with a mix of awe and alarm. Jacob and Talia's faces drained of color, eyes bulging with shock, rage, and disbelief. Talia opened her mouth, about to use some foul words to degrade me and say bullshit. I was scared, I tried the last thing I wanted this night was drama. To my surprise, Jacob held her back, he squeezed her hands and signaled her to shut up. Relief washed over me. I was not sure if Zale noticed any of that. I was grateful no scene was created. A smile of mischief crept on my face when Jacob and Talia bowed to greet me along with the crowd. Of course they had to. I am now the Alpha’s wife, which means, I am above them. Both of them. This is my karma. They would regret what they did to me.
