Lying Backstabbers!
I was focused completely on arranging the table to perfection that I did not notice the foul smell coming from the kitchen until my maid called out "Ma'am! It's burning!" She yelled at the top of her voice. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach. Not thinking much about any other thing, I raced to the kitchen and turned the oven off. The meal was a burnt mess. It was 7:30 pm already, and Jacob would be back in less than an hour, that wouldn't be enough time to prepare another meal. I looked up at the maid with sweat beads on my forehead. This is one of the moments that I desperately want to yell at her for not turning the heat off by herself. But it isn't her fault, Jacob doesn't want his meal prepared by anyone other than me. And by that, he means not even a hand should accompany me. From washing the dishes to setting the tables, cleaning the vegetables, and turning the cooker off and on. My husband is strict with that aspect of his meals. That is how obsessed he is with my handwork. "Do you need any help, ma'am?" She asked. "No, Linda, you can go." I dismissed her. Facing the oven again, I brought the turkey out and tried my best to garnish it. It took so much time that I wished I had prepared a new one and disposed of this one. After setting it, I headed back to the dining hall and set the tables completely. Only when I was done setting it up did I notice how late it was 9 p.m. and Jacob was still not back. I picked up my phone to call him, but another call came in immediately. It was my best friend Serene. "Are you okay?" Serene yelled the moment I answered. "What?" "Just tell me you are fine, Astrid." She sounded like she was running to somewhere. "I don't get. I am fine," my brows creased in both confusion and worry. "Okay, just stay strong. I'm coming to your place right now." "What's wrong? Are you alright?" I asked. "Is Jacob home yet?" She yet again threw a question. This time, my heart beat increased uncontrollably. Did something bad happen to my husband? "No, why? What is going on, Serene?" I was losing patience. "Okay, good. Just stay off social media and wait for me?" She said, then hung up. Her warning invited the urge to check what was going on on social media and how it's related to Jacob. I scrolled through the first app I came across. It took me a few seconds of scrolling before seeing what Serene must have been talking about. "Jacob?" I shook my head with my eyes closed, just to make sure i was dreaming. He was down on one knee, presenting a ring to a girl none other than my sister. "This had to me some photo manipulation scrap. Jacob would never." I was finding it hard to breathe. more pictures were being posted, videos of my husband kissing my sister. I felt like throwing up, like crying. I exited the app hurriedly and dialed Jacob's number. Hope that he would debunk these rumors filled my chest. He wasn't picking up. The more I waited, the more restless I got. Everything came to a halt when the front door opened, and Jacob walked in majestically with Talia by his side. My eyes traveled from the dress Talia had on to the ring on her finger. Tears threatened to gush out of my eyes, but i held it back, hoping they would say it's a prank. "Honey!" I ran to Jacob giving him a hug. He pushed me lightly, then handed a piece of paper that he was holding. "Sign this." He declared. "What is it?" "Divorce papers. Your time is up." My little sister Talia said with a dirty smirk. Ignoring her, i faced my husband. "Jacob, I am confused . What is going on? What sort of prank is this?" "Astrid, you have 15 minutes to go through this divorce papers and sign it. Then leave this house immediately." My hands were shaking, my legs could barely hold me as I watched Jacob hold Talia's waist, leading her upstairs. "Then what? You'll get married to my sister?" I spat angrily. “Who would support such infidelity?” “I’msure people would prefer this to him living with a barren woman Astrid. Face it, Jacob tried. 2 years without an heir is an insult to the Beta.” Talia said. “Exactly. I loved you and understood you for 2 years. But not anymore. Talia is going to birth my heir.” I felt a lump in my throat. Jacob and Talia went upstairs, leaving me to my misery and broken heart. Still hoping that this was a prank, I went through the file quickly, reading each clause and what it meant. I went to the study upstairs and picked a pen, then filled my signature at the bottom. Then, I head to the bedroom where Talia and Jacob went. I could hear moaning sounds from a distance. Goosebumps filled my skin, never have i ever been this irritated. I knocked twice, then pushed the door open, not caring what i would stumble across. Lucky for me, they were still clothed. “Here,” I stretched the papers to Jacob. “Break the bond.” The shock on both their faces were evident. But I did not care. Not anymore. I just wanted to get out of this place and never see the both of them again. “I Jacob Stanley declare that Astrid Murphy is no longer mate.” A burning sensation filled the pit of my stomach, it burnt so bad that i couldn’t stand striaght anymore. “Ahhh” I yelled out. Looking up, i could see the pain in Jacob’s eyes too. But that was his problem now. He wanted this, he caused this torture for both of us. “And I Astrid denounce Jacob as my mate.” In less than a minute, the pain was gone, and I was left with mothing but an emoty feeling inside of me. As if a huge part of me was cut off. “Excuse me, I need to pack.” I said after regaining my strength. To my surprise, they both left without an argument. I packed all thaI i cared about and went straight to the exit of the house. Jacob, Talia, and the life as the Beta’s wife. All is now in the past.
