Chapter 4

Stark POV Images flash before my eyes, mostly being in the dark and deep breathing sounds in my ears. Soon, followed by a loud deep howl. Banging noise and feeling spread throughout my body in the darkness. Then I heard growling and scratching that was way too loud for my ears. I couldn't see a thing, but I could only hear it. I have to escape, I have to get out of here, but how? How can I when I can't see or feel anything except hear these strange noises? Steady pounding sounds echoing in my head and darkness. Finally, I feel hands on me, shaking me. I snapped my eyes open to see my brother Rowan's worried face above me. He gasped as he backed away from me, stumbling to the floor. I closed my eyes tightly and took in several deep breaths. I counted to 3 and reopened my eyes, and looked around the room. I can feel sweat that had drenched my body. My grandma was sitting on the chair fanning herself, she looked worried. My brother was sitting on the floor with a weird expression on his face. I sighed and slowly sat myself up and against the headboard. I already knew what happened and what I may have to explain. My grandma obviously told my brother to put me on her bed. "How often does that happen, my boy?" My grandma finally asks. My brother gets off the floor and sits in a chair. I looked into her kind, blue eyes, her grey hair wrapped in a long braid that fell over her shoulder. She was wearing a purple long-sleeved maxi dress with an oval neckline. Her moonstone necklace my grandfather had given her sat in the same spot around her neck. My grandma looked to be in her 50s instead of being 120. We age slower than most. Royals, however, are ageless. "Ever since I turned 15. It happens maybe twice a year." I tell her honestly. "Your eyes." Rowan said, and I glared at him, and he shut his mouth. "Silver eyes of a wolf, a true born alpha, possibly even a king." My grandma said as she stood up and stared at me. I frowned at her as I shook my head, "No. I have no wolf, nor am I of royal lineage." My grandmother smiled as she sat on the bed beside me, "It is time that I told you both the truth." I was confused. What truth? My brother pulled out an armchair and sat on it after dragging it toward the bed. "I sensed something years ago when you were in your mother's womb, I don't think my son Aldean is your father." She announced. My brother and I looked at her in shock because that couldn't be possible. Mother or father would have said something. In the early years, my father Aldean treated me the same as he treated Rowan and Talia. "No way, are you serious?" Rowan asked grandma. She nodded, "I could be wrong. It was many years ago. But, I could have sworn, I smelt you before your parents completed the mating process, then, again, maybe they mated before they marked. I do know that our King has glowing grey wolf eyes, but I also know that some gifted wolves have those eyes. It's very intriguing." Rowan smiled at me excitedly, but I shook my head, "I doubt that." I gestured to my legs. I didn't want to believe this nonsense. "I have no wolf. How can I be gifted? I also know that I have no connections with the king." "But, your eyes flashed grey, as if a wolf was present. Unless, unless your wolf is trapped, suppressed, or dormant." Grandma suggested. I cut off my grandma, "Maybe, I don't know, grandma, all I know is that I black out like that twice a year, I don't know why. It's rare for an alpha born to not have a wolf." I stopped myself then. Because I was losing it. Her eyes widened as she gasped, "What happens when you go like that?" She asks. "I can sense a wolf it's faint, but I can sense it. Why would you not have a wolf? Did your dad do something?" I closed my eyes and shook my head. My father. I wasn't supposed to tell her, Father would kill her, he'd find out. I kept shaking my head, I could not lose her, I won't. I can't tell her, I can never tell her what he does to me. I can not tell her what he did to our grandfather. Goddess, please. It's probably the reason I have no wolf. I felt her place a warm hand over my trembling hand that was in a tight fist. I took in a breath and then another one as I tried to relax. Breathe Stark, breathe. Goddess, I wish I could have kept my mouth shut. This is why I choose not to speak, but when she's rattling on about nonsense like that, I had to say something. Breathe Stark, Breathe. I counted to 3 and opened my eyes and unclenched my fists. My grandma took my hand in hers and said, "I am sorry, my boy, we won't talk about this anymore. I may have been mistaken by your eyes, maybe its just your wolf being dormant." She squeezed my hand "No. It's fine, Grandma, just don't ask me about dad." I had a hard time saying that word, dad. I haven't said it since I was a kid. She nodded in understanding, then placed her hand on my cheek and smiled, "Alright. As for the wolf part, I am certain you have one. I do believe you will get your wolf, maybe not but or maybe later." She smiled. "He showed briefly when I was 15 once." I looked at her, and Rowans eyes widened in surprise, "My wolf, but he ended up quiet since then." I frowned as I tried to remember, "Actually, I don't even hear or feel him at all, just briefly at age 15." I tell her honestly. She nodded and then looked at my brother, "So, what do you think?" "I hope it's true. It would be cool to find a way to get his wolf out, if it's even in there somewhere." Rowan admits with a proud smile towards me. I can tell he's being genuine and vague because he knows what father does to me. We were all quiet for a moment before grandma changed the subject, "I have brought some cookies I have made. Do you boys want to try one before our supper arrives? I already ordered ahead." Our grandmother announced as she walked to her kitchenette. "Dude, you almost had a panic attack in front of her." Rowan mindlinked. "I know." I mindlinked back. "Sure, I will have cookies, grandma." Rowan says to our grandma.
