Chapter Sixteen.
Marcus Hunter stared down at the report on his desk. He was furious. “How accurate is this?” He growled. His voice deep and dangerous. His second, Vaughn, didn’t hesitate.
“Accurate. The Rising Moon Alpha was seconds from our boarder before he turned around.” Silver Blake. The wolf had been a thorn in Marcus’ side since they were pups. He was always trying to get in Marcus’ way, especially when it had come to Ellaine.
“He comes to my boarder, and then just turns around? He dares taunt my status as Scarlett River’s Alpha?”
“Maybe he chickened out? Changed his mind about challenging you?” Vaughn offered. He could believe that more than Silver suddenly deciding to taunt Marcus.
“No.” Marcus had known Silver far to long to believe that. “He was alone. Not a single wolf with him.”
“But his second is already here. And a group of juveniles. His own daughters and niece included. Who’s to say they aren’t a Trojan horse of some kind? I hear the small one was missing from her training on Wednesday.”
“She was injured apparently. Pushing my useless daughter out of the way of a falling log.” Marcus had long been disappointed with Annabelle. She was going to walk herself off a cliff one day. He cursed his luck. One child was a potential Alpha and a definite threat, and the other was a useless klutz who couldn’t care less about being a warrior. She had “maternal” written all over her. In the end she wouldn’t be good for anything except breeding. Marcus blamed Nick. He’d always spoilt her. Never mind, Marcus thought. He would be out of the way before the next one came along. “As for the others,” He continued. “Malachi I can understand. The man’s a tank. But the children? I’ve seen their dominants train. Trust me, they’re no threat to us.” And a handful of pups wasn’t exactly a match for a large pack like Scarlett River. So why the hell had Silver come so close to crossing his boarder?
Kiara was feeling a little overwhelmed. The shop they were in sold all sorts of lingerie. From super sexy roll play costumes all the way to everyday t-shirt bras. She was completely befuddled and had no idea where to even start. Terra seemed to be uncomfortable as well. But She suspected that had more to do with everyone staring at her. To her credit, Terra didn’t snap or snarl at the gawking shoppers or the open-mouthed salesgirl. But Kiara didn’t like it. Terra was her friend. “We can hear you.” She told some young human woman who hadn’t stopped whispering about Terra’s spider body since they had walked in. “Someone might think you’ve never seen a Spider Shifter before.” Kiara let her eyes glow red and Terra flashed her fangs. The two women startled and rushed back out of the shop.
“What are you guys doing?” Lilly hissed, embarrassed by the uncharacteristic display of aggression.
“They stared it. Can you believe how rude some people are? Staring and whispering.” Kiara said it loud enough for every human left in the shop to hear. It worked. They all stopped being so obviously rude and went back to their own business. She cast an eye over the dozens of bras hanging on the walls. She may have had no idea what she was looking for, but Lilly did. Lilly grabbed several lacy pastel items from the racks and a black bra with white spots that was already half full of padding.
“I definitely need a push up bra.” She said to that one. “I want my boobs to practically explode out of my dress tonight.”
“Why would you want them to explode?” Terra asked with a giggle. She seemed much more relaxed now the staring had stopped.
“Because I want Oscar to be stunned and completely helpless in the face of all my sexiness.” She did a playfully dramatic shimmy and laughed. Kiara browsed the racks wondering if Nick would like her in a push up bra. She came across a few that she thought looked nice and picked them up to try on. Even Terra had found a couple to try.
Kiara looked at her reflection in the full-length mirror of the dressing room. She was actually a little stunned. Kiara had always had a strange relationship with her own reflection, but even she had to admit she looked good. She was wearing a lacy black bralette with a thick long line band. It held her breasts gently and allowed them to sit in their natural shape. The soft lace was beautiful and showed flashes of her skin. She liked it, a lot. Not wanting to take it off, but dying to try on more, Kiara slipped out of the bralette and picked up a floral red and black one.
After they left the lingerie store each carrying a little pink bag, and Lilly carrying three, they found a cute little boutique and started dress shopping. Lilly really wanted a new dress for her date with Oscar. Despite herself, Kiara started browsing the racks for a dress herself. She had only brought one casual outfit to the camp with her and Nick had seen her in it twice already. And although he hadn’t asked her on an official date yet, Kiara figured she could still have something nice to wear in reserve. “Try this.” Terra handed her a short black dress. It looked a little plain, but Kiara decided to trust her.
“I’ll be right back.” She said giving Terra a shy smile and heading to the dressing rooms. She slipped into the one beside Lilly, who was trying on a bundle of clothing. Kiara swapped her red t-shirt and short denim skirt out for the dress. Luckily she was wearing her only “normal” bra instead of one of her boob squishing sports bras. The silky fabric felt good against her skin and she had to Admit the dress didn’t look plain at all once it was on. It hugged her body in all the right places. From the fascinatingly deep V neckline to her mid-thigh. The long sleeves made it look a little more elegant by softening the ridges her muscular shifter arms. Kiara stared at her own reflection for a moment longer. She had never really been much for fashion or caring about her appearance at all for that matter. But then again, she had never really had reason too. Not since her one and only date with Dash. That had ended in a disastrous and humiliating encounter. She pushed the memory of that night out of her mind and it was instantly replaced with an image of Nick. What would he say if he saw her in this dress? Would he like it?
They finished their shopping trip off with milkshakes, Terra on soy as she was lactose intolerant, and some sweet cakes from a café on the way back to the hotel. “Thank you.” Said Terra as the paid their bill. “I have never done anything like today.” Lilly’s eyes went wide.
“Seriously?” she asked gathering up her many shopping bags.
“Me either.” Kiara admitted earning a little gasp from Lilly.
“You too Kiara? Wow, I’d wish I’d known. I would have planed things completely differently. There are so many more places I could have shown you.” She pouted.
“Why?” Kiara asked. “Today was great.”
“Yes.” Terra agreed. “I expected to be tired after walking back and forth all afternoon. Any more would have been too much.”
“Really?” Lilly asked, unsure.
“Really.” Kiara promised her. And it was the truth. Kiara usually only went shopping by herself and she was a quick in and out kind of girl. It was nice to take it slow and look around with the girls. Besides she never would have brought what she had if left to her own devices. Her answer seemed to please Lilly because the other girl smiled brightly again.
