My first real official first day of summer. I was enjoying spending time with my Grandma. I was hanging out just helping her in her garden. She was telling me old sea folk tales she used to try to convince me were real. Just as she always did every summer. Grandma had fallen asleep in front of the tv with "The Rachel Ray" cooking show on tv. I turn down the tv. Then Rigsby decides to follow me and see what I was doing. We were supposed to get a storm rolling in here sometime during the night. Not yet. Though the clouds in the sky were a bit gray out there was no rain pelting down yet. I decided to talk a walk alone down on the beach before Grandma headed to bed for the night. Some nights she tended to just fall sleep in front of the tv. I get on my hot pink Nike beach shoes. I wore shorts so I could go wading a little in the water. I would start swimming little at a time. No need to dive right in this time right? • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "No Rigsby. You stay here with Grandma. Besides nothing worse than to smell a wet dog. Just in case I get rained on, heading home. Stay boy" I demand to Rigsby who was begging for me to take him along on the walk. I decide to get an umbrella to take with me. And a towel in case I got my sea legs a little wet along the way. Then I was on my way. I left Rigsby at home. Who was pouting by the front door where I left him last! I begin to walk out to the beach. Maybe I could find a few shells. Begin some kind of ESTY store online and make crafts for fun. I always loved to be creative. Who knew what I would end up doing here. I did want to start looking for a job while I was down here. Especially if I was going to be living down here with Grandma. I was never going to be a freeloader. I always paid bills. Or offered to help in any way to my family. Maybe that was why they did not want to get rid of me. I had quite my last job at the local movie theatre. Right when summer started. I knew I needed some much time to myself. It was hard to quite the job when I had worked there sense my junior year in high school. The place had many memories for me. But it was time to move on. Time to grow up. Time to find out who I was. I began to walk to the ocean. There was a cloud above that began to look like rain might start to come on down at any given moment here. But I did not let it worry me. Grandma's house was not too far to run back to. I decided to take off my shoes and set them there on the beach. I wanted to dip my toes in the ocean. For a little bit. I begin to wade in the water. The water felt cool and wonderful on my legs. The day was sure a hot and muggy one. I had on a tank top. A yellow and pink one. I had on pink shorts to match the shirt. It was Nike to. Nothing really fancy about it. Was not planning on going any place to dress up to. I began to wade further into the ocean's waters. My fear sets in me. I did not want to wade too far in. After all I was out here walking with no one. All by myself. Anything could happen. People were reported to drown in the sea all the time. It was a natural cause of death often. It terrified me to death to. I sigh as I take a deep breath. I try to relax. Nothing bad was going on. Though the waters were starting to rise higher. The tide was coming in at this time. Waves crashed about. Old King Triton must know there was a storm brewing for us humans up here. I giggle thinking of merfolk. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • My Grandma firmly believed in them. Not me. I gave that idea up a long time ago. I loved the old book "Little Mermaid" though while growing up. It was a classic. Grandma used to read it to me all the time when I came to visit in the summer. As though my imagination began to play tricks on me here, I see something in the far off distance in the waves. A huge tail fin lifts up in the water. Was there a whale around maybe? I peer out as far as I could see. The huge tail goes back under the water making me rethink if my mind was playing a trick on me. Could be. I sigh as I shake my head. I see sea gulls began to fly around. Leaving the beach. Making noisy calls to me below as though to warn me to head inside you silly human.... I decide if I should head back or not. As I do I feel a pelt of rain splatter on my wrist. Not hard rain storms yet. No just little sprinkles of it so far. I did see lighting strike in the far distance of sky further out there. I smile wishing I had my camera on hand with me to take a shot at that. If only. Wow. Next time I would have to borrow my Grandmother's camera to take some photos here. Send some to my Mom maybe. I stand there watching the lighting flash in the sky. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • I soon spot it once again. The huge tail comes rising up in the water. WAS it a whale? Excitement grew in my soul like I had not felt in a very long time. I had never saw a whale up close like this before. It was time to put my big girl panties on and head out there if I wanted to see this up close and personal. I wade a little further in the water. Nearly waist deep now. Much past my comfort zone for a nonswimmer. My heart begins to race faster. It was not so bad. Not as bad as I thought. "Well look at that will you! What is it? Come on let me see you" I beg of the whale. I look out and I see the tail was not as big as I once thought. What was this thing? Just a large gigantic fish of some sort? I shake my head. I keep seeing it come and go. Before I knew what I was doing I was really too far in the water. Rain was starting to fall harder. The waves were heading faster and faster at me. Nearly knocking me down. My heart begins to pound with a new fear in me. I decide to head on back. Give up seeing what the majestic creature was there in the ocean. I try to walk back. Then it hits me. HARD. A wave. Before I even have time to take a big gulp of air the waves takes me under. Tormenting my lungs. Fear pumps in my heart as I close my eyes and can't breathe. Water swirls around taking control of my movements. I was no longer in control of my fate. This was DOOM. My worst fear was coming true. I try to paddle my way up to the surface the best I could. But the waves were tough. They were pulling me down. Down to the bottom of the ocean's floor. I gasp then sea water enters my mouth making me cough and gag as I close my mouth back up. I feel myself sinking lower into the bottom of the surface. This was it. I was going to die. I was going to die at the fate of my worst fear. I was going to drown. I knew I was. My heart rate became slower and slower. Thud..thud...thud. I could hear it in my ear drums. Tears watered at the corners of my eyes. My lungs felt like they were going to burst on me and break if they did not get any air soon here. Suddenly I felt them. A pair of strong arms grab at me. I feel someone behind me. Someone was there to rescue me. They were really a good swimmer. We soon quickly head up to the top surface of the water. I can breathe. I gasp and cough out sea water. I feel someone still has a hold on to me. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Keep calm. You are going to be alright" I hear someone tell me. I nod as I take deep breaths in. I cannot see well with my hair dripping wet in my eyes. My hands were on two very strong arms which were holding me. Dragging me to the surface of the shore. Fear soon began to drift away seeing I was quite alive. I never felt more alive after facing my worst fear. "You are in good hands" someone tells me calmly. Soon they help me to the beach. I lean on the beach coughing up a lot of sea water still. I gasp as much air as my body can handle. I go to look for who had rescued me. Suddenly I see the large tail once again. It is in the shallow water. Almost merfolk like. Unhuman that was for certain. My heart pounds faster. The tail disappears back into the water. Who had rescued me? I look around. There was no one in sight on the beach. No one but me.... ♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆
