At long last. I waited for others because I had a window seat. I had to wait for the other people to get off the plane first. It was a couple. They had a little baby with them. So they had everything under the sun with them to. The husband was getting the diaper bag from the top. The lady had a second diaper bag. So far I did not see anything that would belong to them. Just the baby. Wow how much did one little baby need? I could not help but wonder. Motherhood was way further down the road for me. I was not even sure my biological clock was ticking. I never had the urge to hold a baby when I saw it. I did not want any kids. Because my folks thought they wanted that. Not me that was not what I wanted. Because now we were all falling apart at the seams. And there was no way to fix us. We were broken. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Can I get your bag down for you while you wait? Which one is it?" the lady's husband offers. He was a gentlemen. He looked like if he took one more bag though he was going to keel over to the floor of the plane. "My bag is the tan and purple one. Dark purple" I mention. He looks around then spots my bag. He hands it to me. "Thank you sir" I say as we wait to head off the plane. Others were heading off the plane so the crowd of folks was weeding out thankfully. I was starting to feel a bit crowded. It was muggy to me to being around so many I did not know. I tried not to pay too much attention to it. While I waited I text my Mom to let her know that I had landed now. Soon I was able to get out of the seat and move. I made my way down the terminal. I hoped my Grandma was waiting for me at the end of the tunnel. There was no telling really with her. She could be waiting for you one moment. Then shopping for a snickers bar the next at the gift shop. You had to keep your eye on that one. I followed the crowd. The lady's cute little baby was peaking over at me from her Mother's shoulder. I think "Enjoy it while it last kid" it was just the bitter divorce kid in me I suppose. "Sydney! Honey pie! Over here!" I hear my Grandma echo in the building. She was waving in the middle of the crowd. She had a jean jacket on over her shirt. With 80's buttons on it that I once gave her back when I was in grade school. She had on sunglasses on top of her curly gray hair that was short now. She used to have really long hair. I wave at her then head on over to see her. She pulls me into a big hug, that I knew I had needed for some time now. The smell of Channel Number 9 comes wafting in my nose as she hugs me tight. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Oh aren't you a sight for sore eyes? Let's get you on home. Then we can have some lunch. Are you famished by now? You look like you are wasting away to nothing" Grandma mentions as she pulls me back to look at me. "Sorry Mom is on a diet. So everyone in the house is to" I giggle. "She better be eating more than the bird's food. I swear I do not know what I am going to do with that Mother of yours. Let's go find your luggage. I bet you packed everything but the kitchen sink" she laughs as we make our way to the convey belt to find my things. Soon we find my suit cases. I had more books packed for summer reading in there then I did summer clothing for my wardrobe. I was not worried about finding Mr. Right during my summer trip. Most girls did. This girl could care less. Romance was a waste of time. You only break up later on down the line. Forever never lasted. My parents proved that theory to me. "What sounds good for dinner? Burgers on the grill? Hot dogs with the works?" Grandma wants to know. Her mouthwatering burgers did sound heavenly about now after eating rabbit's food at my Mothers for months. "All of the above" I agree with her as she helps me carry my things. We head outside to the parking lot. The day was bright and sunny. As if to say "Welcome back Sydney!" "Wow I forgot how hot it can get down here Grandma" I laugh as we head to her old car. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • She had a classic 1954 mint green Cadillac classic. She had it for years. It had been Grandpa's baby. He had always wanted one back when Elvis had given the famous classic pink one to his Mother when they were new. This one was in perfect condition to. Grandma helped me place my things in the back seat of the Caddy. Then I hopped into the front with her. She rolled down the windows of the car. If my memory served me right this beauty of a car only had classic oldies stations coming in on it. Sure enough "Maybe Baby" by Buddy Holly was crooning on the radio when she starts up the car. "Old Rigsby wanted to come see you here when I picked you up. But it was far too hot of a day to leave him in the car by himself. So he will have to wait until we get home" Grandma mentions her nine year old poodle name Rigsby. Grandpa had gotten him for her nine years ago for her birthday one year. Rigsby only loved two people on this earth. One was Grandma. The other was me. He never cared for Grandpa, my Dad or my Mom either. "I cannot wait to see him either" I giggle as we head on the high way. "It sure will be nice to have some company here with me all summer long" Grandma tells me. "Yes I needed a change to. I have been doing a lot of thinking Grandma" I tell her in a serious tone. "About what?" wonders Grandma. "About my life. What to do with it. Not real sure I want to go to college yet. Dad wants me to. Mom does not care because she is doing well and did not go to college. They can be confusing when they talk to me about life changes. I have been thinking of well, of moving" I manage to say before I lost the nerve to say it. "Move?! Where do you want to move to? Family is important. They may not be what you want at the moment but there will be a time in your life when you find they are what you need in your life" Grandma reminds me as we drive. The wind is pestering at my hair pawing at the ends making it whip into my eyes. I pull my long black curly hair back into a pony tail again. "Once you hear me out you might change your mind about me moving" I say with a grin. "Oh is that so honey pie? Why is that?" she asks me. "Because, I want to move here. With you" I reply finally. She nearly swerves to the left and a little off the road. She regains her balance on the wheel. "With me? Now honey pie I am not too sure your Momma will be keen on that idea" Grandma worries. "But I always am happiest when I am here Grandma. Not just because of you. Though you play a big part of it. This place has a lot of history for me. I am drawn to it like you were. I want to move here" I argue. "Let's focus on the summer here now shall we. Then if you still feel the need to move here with your old Grandma then I am all for that okay honey pie?" Grandma asks me sweetly. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • She smiles at me. Soon we come to Grandma's town. Calabash. Which is not too far from Myrtle Beach. I place I loved to go to. We soon come into her little neighborhood. I smile as I glance out the window of the car. "It is so good to be back" I sigh with contentment. She nods as we soon come driving up to her home. She pulls in the drive way after opening her garage door. I could see the ocean shimmering from her back yard. I was really excited to go walk on that beach tonight after dinner time. When Grandma parked the car she helped me unload everything in the back. I could hear Rigsby barking at the little door there in that was in the garage. He could hear us coming. "Rigsby is excited to see you" jokes Grandma. We head on in carrying my things after Grandma unlocks the door to let us in. The cool central air hits us. I sigh and a smile creeps across my face. I cannot help but smile being back at Grandma's beach house. Rigsby comes leaping over to greet me hello. He had his little old chewy toy hanging from his mouth. "Hey there old friend! How are you?" I greet him. He wags his tail joyfully at me. I lean down to pet him. He nearly licks me to death. "You come with me you old scamp. You need to go potty" Grandma demands as she snatches Rigsby and places him on a leash much to his dismay. "You go on ahead to your old room. You know where it is right? Nothing changes around here" "Right I know where it is. That is why I came. I sure have had enough changes for once in my life Grandma" I laugh. "Well one week being bored here you might change your mind on that honey pie" Grandma jokes before she heads out the door with Rigsby dragging her along the way. I head to the back where my room was next to Grandma's room. She had a room here for me. One used to be for my Mom when she came to. Grandma had old and new photos of me in the "Sydney Room". Ones where I was a little baby to where I was a senior in high school. She had little sea shell nick knacks splashed all about the room room. Things people had given to her over the years. Most of this stuff in this room were all things I had given her for Christmas or Birthdays or Mother's Day and such. I even had my own dresser to place my clothing in. There was a nice window at the top of the ceiling that let the sun shine down on me. I pulled back the curtains on the window. There was that view. That ocean view I had been waiting for all along. It was so pretty to see again. I began to unpack. My phone rang. Mother. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Hey Mom. I am here" I tell her when I answer. "Gee really? I see more updates on your f******k then I get calls from you these days. When were you going to tell me before you went home?" she bickers at me. Someone was in a bad mood today. "Sorry Mom. We just made it to Grandma's. I was going to call you. I swear" I vow. "Well have a good time. Tell Grandma I said hello" Mom replies. "I will. Mom maybe you should call your own Mom once in a while" I giggle. "Bye dear" she says before hanging up on me. I sigh. Summer had just begun. I smile as I glance over at the ocean. I had a feeling I was not going to want to leave this place once my adventures began. ♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆
