I was excited to go head out to that beach. I was going to find "Finn" and make sure this was a real life merman. I was not about to admit to my Grandma that I was planning on going merman hunting. She would want to come along with me and join in the fun. I was going to wade in the ocean. To find "Finn". Even if it killed me. Literally. I had on my swimsuit. Nothing to drool over. It was a one piece. I had on shorts to. In case I changed my mind about the whole swimming thing. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Going someplace sugar?" Grandma asks me as I polish off the last of my breakfast. "Uh-huh, just out on the beach for the day. The sun is nice out" I tell her as I take a drink of my juice. "Want me to come along?" she wants to know. "Oh no, no, I need to do this alone. I hope you do not mind" I tell her smiling weakly. "Going to try to doggy paddle out there?" she asks me. "Something like that" I tell her. I get up off the chair ready to head out on the beach. "Grandma if they call about that job let them know I will take it okay? And that I will call them back when I get back" I mention. I had not heard back about the job offer. I was really wanting that job. "Sure sugar" Grandma replies. "Be safe. And have fun" she tells me as I head on out to the beach. I run, bolting out to the beach. The sun pelted down on my skin. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • Warming me right up. From head to toe. I began to get sand in my toes because I had on flip flops. I try to walk without them on my feet. But the sand was a tad too hot for my taste. I soon am just standing there staring out at the ocean blue. The sun was in my eyes shining brightly on me. I could not see a thing. I groan. I make my way closer to the ocean. Now my toes were in the water. That was not so bad. I could see little minnows begin to dance around my toes as I stood there in the shallow water. If I moved my toes they would dart away before I had a chance to catch one. Was I crazy? I was out here with the fish. Looking for handsome MERMEN? I think I was hanging out with my Grandma too much. Maybe it was time for me to make some friends out my own out here. NORMAL friends my own age. "Hey there you came back" I hear someone say. I look over where the voice had come from. There he was in the water again. FINN! It was him. I grin. He was rather handsome. Even for a figment of my imagination. "So I did" I say smiling. "What is your name again? Sydney correct? I heard about you from your Grandma a lot" he explains to me smiling. Suddenly his tail comes up. A real TAIL. I feel badly for gawking at him like this. "Want to touch it?" he jokes pointing to his tail as he makes it come back up. "Me? Touch that? Oh no" I giggle. "Go ahead. Make sure I am real. I assure you that I am" he says with a grin. I sneak closer to him in the water. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • He was human leaning in the sand there with his chest in the water. Then his body went all tail from the waist down. Wow....just wow. He brought his tail up for me to touch. My fingers reach out to touch his tail. Shaky hands. I had gone fishing before. It was not like I never touched a fish in my life. But this was a MERMAN! My fingers suddenly could feel all the scales of his tail fin down at the bottom. "Wow!" I gasp. He moves his tail back down. "How fast can you swim? I mean you must be a fast swimmer with a tail that big" I say not knowing what to say about all of this. I owed my Grandma a letter of apologizes. Maybe there was a big foot after all. Who was I to say there was not? "I can swim pretty fast. Not as fast as my Father, Hortez. He can swim fast when he is mad and trying to catch up to me" chuckles Finn. "You have family issues to?" I say feeling as though I was in some odd weird dream that I would wake up from any moment here. "Sure, well pretty normal. My Father is the ruler of the sea. He wants me to follow in his footsteps. I do not want all that responsibility" explains Finn. "I know what you mean kind of. About family issues. I came here to get away from it all" I explain to Finn. "That was what your Grandma was telling me. She was excited about you coming here. She wanted us to meet because we are the same age" he tells me. "You are twenty to?" I ask. He nods. "Sure am" he says with a grin. "Small world" I laugh. "Your Grandma was worried that you cannot swim also. She was wanting me to teach you how to swim. I can if you will allow me to" he offers. I groan. Grandma had a big mouth. "She told you that I cannot swim? I wonder who else she told around here" I grumble. "I kind of got the feeling you could not swim when I had to rescue you the other day" he points out making me blush. "Sorry" I giggle. "I was just glad I reached you in time. My Father would hate it if he knew I was here interacting with you humans" he mentions. "Humans? Oh me. I never knew you well...merfolk were real" I giggle. "Now you do" he says flashing that perfect smile at me. I nod. "Nice to meet you at last. I guess Grandma is not so crazy after all" I joke. "We have to hide you know" he tells me suddenly. "What?" I ask feeling confused. "We have to hide. There are people out there who would poke, prod us some even want to hunt us for sport. I do want to protect my world. But I do not see every human I meet as a threat. Just like us each human is different in their own way. I wish I could show that to my Father" he grumbles. "Maybe one day he will" I reply. "So do you want to learn to swim? I can teach you" he asks me again. "How can you teach me?" I laugh. "Come out here. I will swim you out there. I will not let go. I will teach you how to float to start off" he vows to keep me safe. I knew he would he saved me once before. "I don't know" I sigh. "You do not have to be afraid" he reminds me. "Alright" I agree. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • I wade into the water. He offers me his hand as we head out deeper to the ocean. My heart begins to flutter as the water got higher for me. "There is nothing to fear" he tells me softly. I nod. Soon we were about over my head. Then I could not touch the ocean floor with my feet. I nearly sink under the waves. I feel him hold me up with his strong arms. I feel his smooth chest behind me. So close to me. So warm. It was nice being in his embrace. I knew it was just to learn to swim. "Want to go out further?" he dares me. "I don't know" I worry as we float in the waters. "Come on" he begs me. "Okay" I manage to agree. He swims me out further. I soon spot a dolphin swim beside us. It was magical. I sure was missing out on a lot by not knowing how to be a good swimmer. He kept his word. He did not let go of me. I felt safe and secure in his arms. It was fun swimming out there faster. For the first time in my life I did not feel afraid of the water. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ • "Want to learn how to float now?" he asks me. "Alright sure" I say. "Lean back into my chest here. Then lean your legs up above the water here. Like this" he tells me as he helps position me. Now I could see how handsome his face was again as he smiled at me. I smiled back nervously as I was in the water. "You are doing it!" he says suddenly. I see he was not holding me up and I was floating. Panic hits me. I sink down. Coughing water up. He grabs me and holds me back up. "You're safe. I have you. But you were doing well" he promises me. My arms were wrapped around his neck as he smiles at me. My heart beats faster being so close to him. I forgotten what having a boyfriend was like. I shake the thoughts of romance with Finn out of my head. We were just friends. We could never be anything more. "I was?" I ask. He nods as he smiles. "You did. How do you like swimming? See it is not so bad" he says. "So far" I admit. He grins. "Ready to head back?" he asks me. "Sure, thanks for the lesson" I say as we head on back. "Come back tomorrow and see me. I can work with you every day until you are an expert like me" he offers. "Alright, I will take you up on that offer" I agree once we are back to shore. He smiles. "See you soon Finn" I tell him as I get on my flip flops and dry off with a towel. "See you soon Sydney. I look forward to seeing you again" he says smiling before he swims off. ♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆♥☆
