Chapter Fourteen

I was a wreck. What did I do? What could I do? I had to get in that room again. Before Jordan exposed poor Crystal and Finn to the world. There was NO way in hell I was going to let him win. I was going to rescue them.

Even if it sent me to jail. Or drowned me. Whatever came first? I text Grandma what was going on and to meet me here at the aquarium. ASAP. Charlotte was here working overtime much to my luck.

"HEY! I need you now!" I gasp as I pull her aside.

"What are you doing here so late?" she asks me.

"You have to help me. It is a matter of life or death!" I exclaim.

"Sounds serious. What exactly is going on here?" she wants to know.

"You might not believe me. Please do not think that I am as crazy as Jordan. I am really not" I begin. I was not sure how to say this to her. Please help me save my friends? They are mermaids?? That sounds like I needed to go be locked up in the looney ward!

"Try me. I have heard worse" she chuckles.

"Okay first let me ask you this. Is there any way you can get me into that secret room of Jordan's? I HAVE to get in there. He stole something that is very important to me" I explain.

"Yes, I have a key card to every room in this place. He has me on clean up. So I have to go in all the rooms. Only the managers and janitor staff have key cards to this place. What did that creep steal of yours?" wonders Charlotte.

"I can show you. Just please let me in there" I beg of her.

"Um, is that your Grandma at the door?" Charlotte asks me as she points over to the front door. There was Grandma peeking into the glass of the doors.

"I asked her to come. We will need her help" I tell Charlotte. "Please let her in" Charlotte does as I say.

But she looks a tad confused. I did not blame her for being confused. I would be too if I were her.

"I came as soon as I heard. Who has FINN?" demands Grandma.

"Finn? Was he kidnapped? Why would anyone kidnap your boyfriend?" wonders Charlotte.

"You told her about Finn? You know others cannot know about him!" warns Grandma to me.

"I told her how I met him, she does not know everything about him!" I argue with Grandma.

"What is going on here? Why would someone kidnap Finn? And what else do I not know about Finn?" Charlotte demands to know.

"Grandma, come on! He is in danger, Charlotte is my only way to get to him right now. She has to know. I think we can trust her to tell her about Finn. She will help us" I vow to Grandma.

"I don't know" Grandma worries.

"Gram! We are wasting time! Jordan can come back at any time now! We have to hurry!" I argue.

"You can trust me. Let's go in that room" declares Charlotte. She leads us back to Jordan's room. She unlocks the door with the key card. We head into the room. There in the tank was poor Crystal and Finn there chained up in the tank. So they had no chance to escape.

"Finn!" Grandma cries looking upset.

"Oh MY STARS, is that what I think it is?" gasps Charlotte. I nod yes.

"They are my friends. That is Finn. Finn this is Charlotte. That is his friend Crystal" I explain to her.

"Oh my stars! Jordan is not crazy! They are real? I mean they are really real!" she gasps. I hear talking. There was Jordan coming with someone.

"Hide Gram! You stay here Charlotte. He will not think of a thing if you are cleaning here" I demand to Charlotte as Jordan and someone else came closer to the door. I hide under a latter over my tank.

I grab Gram with me. I cover her mouth with my hand. I knew she would try something with Jordan. I see poor miserable Finn looking over at us. He looks away. I hoped he did not think that I had anything to do with this. I never would.

"Who is in here?" Jordan demands as he comes in the room now. He was with an older gentlemen.

"Just..just me. I came back here to clean all things up as you requested sir" Charlotte stammers nervously.

"Good! I know this must come as a shock to see these to specimen here in the tank. But this will set this aquarium off the charts! We are going to be world famous Char! And you can be in on this. Can I count on you not to tell others what you saw in here?" Jordan is demanding to her.

"Yes sir. I will not tell anyone what I saw" she lies to Jordan.

"Good, now get back to work while I show my Father here, what my team and I have caught" Jordan brags.

"I see what you have caught son. Amazing really. A merman and a mermaid! You did it!" laughs Jordan's Father with joy as they hug. Then they look at them in the tank.

"Sure did Father. Come up here. They talk. They are pretty intelligent creatures of the sea" Jordan brags to his Father. They climb to the top of the tank. Soon Jordan makes Crystal and Finn move all the way up to the surface so they can speak to them without getting them out of the water.

"So what are your names?" Jordan's Father asks them. Finn and Crystal are not speaking at all.

"Won't talk? I know they can. I saw the merman talk to my coworker. I know he can talk right Finn? Is that your name sir? Thanks to my coworker Sydney she helped lead me right to Finn. She was a great help. Did you hear that Finn? Your lady friend helped me out. She wanted you to get caught. She led me to you. She cares nothing for you! She needs a human. A real man. Like me. She knew that. So she helped me to capture you! Now she and I will be world famous. All ladies dream of fame. She will get that. So we thank you Finn" lies Jordan. I frown as he lies to Finn.

"That is so not true" I mumble under my breath so he could not hear me.

I hoped Finn was not believing his lies. I cared for Finn more then he knew, I was not leaving him here to this doom. I loved Finn.

"I know that is not true sugar" whispers Grandma to me. I nod. Soon Jordan and his Father left them in the tank.

"Come on Father. We have a lot to do before we show the world there are merfolk out there" Jordan brags.

"Let's go get new suites. We need to look nice for tomorrow" his Father reply's.

"Hey there Charlotte?" Jordan asks Charlotte suddenly.

"Yes sir?" she asks softly.

"Make sure to guard this area. No one is to be back here. Not even Sydney do you understand? If you stay here over night to guard this tank I will pay you over time alright?" Jordan offers.

"Yes sir. Sure" she replies.

"Remember no one else is to go back here. If they do call me right away" Jordan demands.

"Sure thing sir" she lies. He nods then he leaves the room with his Father. I sigh after they are gone.

"Gram how am I going to save them? You are not in any shape to swim down there for the keys? And how are we going to get them out to the car?" I worry once Jordan and his Father were gone.

"I know where there is a big cart. We put towels and things for the scuba divers here to dry off with. They have gone in tanks and things to feed the fish. Let me go grab it. We can hide them in that in the towels. Once we free them" Charlotte offers. I nod.

"Great idea. Now who can swim down there to save them?" I worry as Charlotte heads out of the room.

"You can sugar. Finn needs you. You have been getting better at swimming. I have faith in you. I know you can do this" Gram suddenly says to me. I look at her with shock.

"Me!! Me swim down there?" I gasp. She nods. She touches my arm.

"You have to, in order to save Finn's life. He needs you" she reminds me. I sigh.

What she said was so true. He was going to need me. There was no doubt I was the only one who was going to be able to do this. Finn was counting on me. I look over at him in the tank.

He held his head down in shame. My heart aches to see him like that. I could not leave him or Crystal there. There was no way. I would have to do this or die trying!

"I have the cart to put them in. Then we can get them to the car and head to the ocean. Let's do this!" Charlotte exclaims with cheer in her voice.

Gram looks over at me, now Charlotte had done her part in all this to help Finn. Now it was my turn to face my worst fears. To step up to the plate. To save Finn. The man, merman....I loved.
