Chapter 3: The Rocky Mountain Twins

“We’re lost!” Silver shouted. “We’re not lost” I said dodging a branch. “Admit it Rena we are lost” Silver persisted. I shook my head and continued walking until we reached a little clearing and sat down. "Ok we’re lost” I admitted finally. Silver sighed heavily, “Let’s find a place to sleep." We settled down and fell asleep.

A storm came into the night, causing the tree branches to whip as the wind wailed around the place. I woke up to the sound of a tree branch cracking I looked up and moved in time, the tree branch fell where I was a few seconds before. “Silver” I whispered to her. “Huh what, what’s going on?” she asked sleepily. I nodded my head toward the branch, she looked at me then we made our way closer to the center of the forest. “Aahhh!” Silver screamed loudly the next morning. “Well good morning to you too” I said groggily to Silver.

“We were robbed” she said to me. “What was stolen?” I asked her. “We were robbed three weeks worth of food; we’ll starve” she wailed loudly. “Come on, let’s go replenish we’re bound to find something to eat” I said hopefully. “Good idea, you know I found a bush awhile back that had some berries on it, I’m sure I’ll find more if I look hard enough” Silver said, grabbing a basket she wove that night before the storm hit. “All right I’ll look to find something else edible” I called to her. She waved her tail to let me know she heard me, and then I ran off.

It didn’t take long for me to find a herd of deer. “Let’s see what do we got here, I see a buck with some does and a fawn” I said, licking my lips. I stayed there longer then I should have, the buck was watchful as he was looking around he saw an outline and became scared he rounded up his herd then came toward the place I was hiding at. I saw the deer but I was frozen in fear. “Look out!” a voice said, pushing me away from the herd of deer. “You ok?” the voice asked. “Who are you?!” I yelled at the wolf that saved me.

“Um Kiba, help me” the wolf said scaredly. I heard rustling in the bushes near us as a voice yelled. “For God sakes Sora can’t you catch at least a little fawn without getting scared!” “It’s not a fawn” the wolf said. “I don’t care what it is as long as I can eat I’ll be fine!” the one called Kiba said, coming into view. He looked straight at me. “Oh I see what you mean now; I’m Kiba the older brother” he said sweetly. “And you are?” I asked the wolf who saved me.

“I’m Sora” he introduced himself. “Let me guess you guys are-““twins” they finished for me. “Yes we are” Kiba said. Sora was looking at the sky when he said, “Come on bro we stayed longer then we should have.” “All right Sora” Kiba said slightly irritated. “Hey Rena want to hang out sometime?” Kiba asked. I was taken by surprise.

Sora was looking a little mad at Kiba’s suggestion. “Your just jealous aren’t you little bro” Kiba said taunting him. “I’m not so little anymore” Sora protested. “At least mom trusts me more” he added softly. “So Rita” “Rena” I corrected him. “I’ll just call you Rita it’s easier to say and remember” he said happily. “Well I have to go back” I said, walking away.

“Get back where?” Kiba asked. “Um can’t tell you” I said quickly. “Hmm all well we’ll just rob those two wolves like we did last night” he added loudly to Sora, whose eyes grew big. I stopped short and turned to face them. ”Wait you were the ones who robbed me and Silver!” I yelled. Kiba cringed, “Oh well look at the time we must really be-“I jumped on Kiba and propelled him to the ground. “This is going to hurt” Sora said as I did the same thing to him.

“SILVER!” I yelled loudly. “Hey get off me” Kiba complained trying to wiggle out from under me. I growled loudly at him and he quieted down. “I’m here” Silver said, changing from wolf to human. “What’s wrong Rena?” she asked. I thumped my tail at Kiba and Sora. Silver transformed back into her wolf form and sniffed Kiba, her tail slowly began to wag.

“Rena get off of Kiba” she said. “Fine” I said stubbornly I got off Kiba and Sora. Thanks Silv” Kiba said gratefully. “I see you met my friend Rena” she said with a hint of amusement. “Yeah she’s always this violent?” He asked her, “only to people who rob others” she said amusingly. While the two of them where talking I went and sat down next to Sora. “Aw look at that their getting blushy-mushy” Silver said.

“At least I’m afraid to tell you that I like someone unlike someone I know” Sora said, his sliding over at Kiba. I looked over at Kiba whose eyes were looking deadly. Sora noticing backed away slowly. “I already knew that” Silver said, looking at Kiba. “Really?” Kiba said dumfounded. “Yes really” Silver confirmed. They started to walk away, leaving me with Sora.

“You two can do something while we’re gone” Kiba said. I looked at Silver and she looked at me, I nodded my head and she and Kiba walked away. “Guess it’s just you and me” I said looking at Sora. “Um what should do?” he asked sacredly. “I don’t know about you, but I’m going to river to catch some fish” I said walking away. “Can I come?” He asked. His question startled me as I looked over my shoulder.

“I don’t see why not” I said. We started walking when Sora stopped. “I got a better idea” he told me. I stopped short, “what could be more fun than going fishing?” I asked him, c*****g my head. “We could go see what Silver and Kiba are doing” he said with a hint of mischief in his voice. We took off toward the middle of the forest, until we saw fireflies. Sora looked at one and caught it with his paw.

We stayed there until Sora remembered our mission. “Come on let’s go see what those two are doing” he said, leading us to a brook. We got to the brook when we were jumped by Silver and Kiba. Before I could react I was knocked out cold. “I woke up to being tied to a tree. “Sora!” I yelled, regaining consciousness. “Oh look she’s awake” a voice said.

“And she’s calling to her boyfriend” a male voice joined in. I looked to see Silver and Kiba. “Boy am I glad to see you guys, could you get me out of here?” I asked them. “Hmm no” Silver said. Huh the Silver I know would help me I thought. I looked around and saw a glint of Silver’s eyes, and then I heard a voice. “NO! It’s a fake Rena, I’m the real one.”

I looked and saw another Silver. I looked and saw two Kiba’s arguing. “ENOUGH!” I yelled they all fell silent. “Now then will someone untie me?” I asked. One of the Kiba’s came and cut the rope. “Now that I’m on the ground, I’ll ask you each a question if one of you answer it right then I’ll know your real” I said looking at them all. “First question is to the Silvers: “What is my favorite thing to do at night?” I asked. “I know, I know, one the Silvers said jumping up and down.

“It’s howling” she answered. “No it’s not howling it’s listening to the darkness around you” the other Silver answered. “You got it right” I said happily, wagging my tail. “Well I guess there’s no use being in a disguise” the imposter Silver said, uncovering. I looked over to see Sora and Kiba trying to look. I punched them both, but I realized I only punched Sora. “Where did Kiba go?” I asked angrily.

I looked to see Kiba stretching to try and get to Silver who was in human form, in a tree, Silver blew him a kiss, and he transformed into a human and clambered up the tree with perfect ease to Silver. I turned to see Sora smiling at me. Don’t get any ideas” I told him. I looked to the once fake Silver and the fake Kiba back in normal form. I heard Silver squeal in delight. “Meka, Kazuma! Long time no see.” Sora and I looked at each other in confusion. “Who are those two?” I asked Silver.
