CHAPTER 4 LIN It’s dark and quiet as I walk through the forest, over narrow paths, towards the beach. It’s Monday evening, my second week at my mum’s store has just begun, and I’ve survived my first day again. I feel like I’ve finally sort of gotten into a rhythm, a schedule of how my days work out. And today, today was the first time that I wasn’t totally exhausted at the end of it. It felt good. The island is beautiful in the darkness, the sounds, the smells, the calm. It’s only just after dinner, but it feels much later, probably because I’m already so tired. When I walk over the island, I prefer to take the smaller roads, the paths that not a lot of people use, the lesser known ways. It gives the feeling that maybe I’m a little alone in the world, maybe I can be at ease, maybe not
