Chapter 1: My twin sis is getting married to my fiancee
*Elara’s pov*
I stared at my twin sister, Celine. She was wearing the exact same smile she always wore whenever she took what was mine, or whenever I was forced to accept her leftovers. I knew something was completely wrong. Still, I forced myself to flash a fake smile right back at her.
"Celine is getting married to Thane, and you better be happy for her," my mom announced.
I froze. She had to be talking about a different Thane. Not my boyfriend.
"You aren't saying anything," Celine said, her voice loud and bursting with excitement.
"Aren't you happy, twin sis, that I'm getting married to your boyfriend?" She said, like she knew exactly what I was thinking.
I looked from my mom to my dad, but they both acted like this was completely normal. My fists clenched into the fabric of the sofa. "Mom, that’s my boyfriend," I said, my voice tight.
"I have a perfect match for you," my mom smiled, walking over to my side. "Evander—"
Something inside me snapped before she could even finish the sentence. Evander wasn't a perfect match. He was the man Celine had rejected just a few days ago because he was a janitor at Thane's company. She had cried for days about the setup, but her mood had suddenly done a total flip yesterday. Now I understood why.
"I'm not marrying him, and Thane won't support this," I said, tears finally spilling down my cheeks.
I couldn't believe they were taking it this far. I knew they always gave me Celine's leftovers—whatever she dumped automatically became mine without anyone ever asking if I wanted it—but this was insane.
"Oh, Thane knows all about it," Celine said with a wink. "In fact, he proposed to me yesterday."
My heart sank, and the entire room started to spin. "Thane knows about this?"
"Stop being childish," Celine snapped. "It's not like he actually proposed to you yet."
"So I'm the childish one now? Celine, that is my man!"
"Not anymore," Celine replied.
My dad slammed his fist on the table, loud enough to cut through the shouting. "Celine is marrying Thane, and that is final. Celine is an actress. She knows how to handle the cameras, how to behave in public, and how to represent a family like his."
The tears blurred my vision. I couldn't wrap my head around the betrayal. Thane had promised he would love me forever, that we would build a future together, and that he would never let anything come between us. He had promised to take me traveling, to support my career, and to stand by me no matter what. It was all a lie. No wonder he hadn't picked up my calls for the past few weeks. Stupidly, I had assumed he was just overwhelmed with the responsibilities of the company he had just inherited from his father.
"Don't worry, sis," Celine sneered. "We'll probably get to see each other every day, since Evander is Thane's cousin."
"Don't feel bad, Elara," my mom added sarcastically. "You're a doctor. With your intelligence and help, maybe Evander can work his way up to a manager position or something close to the CEO."
The sarcasm was suffocating. Evander was a notorious playboy who blew every dime he made. If it was so easy to build him up, why hadn't Celine done it herself?
My eyes drifted down to the designer bag sitting next to Celine on the couch. I recognized it instantly. It was the exact bag Thane had promised to buy me for my twenty-second birthday. Now it was sitting in Celine's hands. She noticed me looking at it and pouted her lips.
"Thane got it for me."
"Get ready to meet Evander's family," my dad ordered. "The wedding will be held on the exact same day. I am not wasting money on two separate events."
I let out a harsh, painful laugh. "I'm not even allowed to choose my own wedding date."
"Stop being so picky," my mom snapped. "It's just a wedding, it's not a big deal. Can you even afford your own wedding? Your dad is paying for the entire thing, and you can't even show some appreciation. Do you think a janitor like Evander has the money for a ceremony? You should be grateful you and your sister are sharing the day."
My knuckles turned completely white as I gripped the couch, staring at my family in absolute disbelief.
I wanted to scream and reject the entire thing right there, but I knew the consequences. My dad had used his connections to get me my job at the hospital. If I turned down this proposal, he could easily get me fired and leave me on the streets. He had always threatened to disown me whenever I went against his word. Sometimes I wondered if I was actually their child, or just Celine’s shadow.
"I want you all back here by six tomorrow evening, and you better be well-behaved. Especially you, Elara," my dad said, standing up and heading upstairs.
Mom immediately rushed over to Celine’s side, goggling over the ring Thane had given her. I stared at her, wondering if she was even my real mother.
"It's so pretty," Mom gushed.
"Mom, he promised me the best wedding dress. I can't wait," Celine said. Then, she turned her eyes to me. “Don’t worry about a dress. Mom’s old one would look vintage on you.”
"How thoughtful of you, Celine," Mom said, pecking her on the cheek. "You’re always so nice to your sister, despite how mean she acts."
Right. Stealing my fiancé and forcing me to watch them get married on my own wedding day was considered "nice."
I smirked at their little drama, turned around, and walked out. My chest felt like it was going to explode, and the tears I had been holding back finally spilled over. As I walked down the driveway toward my silver sedan, my gaze caught the red car parked next to it.
The memory hit me instantly. Our parents had taken us to the dealership for our graduation. I had chosen the red car, and Celine chose the silver one. The moment we got home, she threw a tantrum, claiming she didn't want the silver one anymore and demanded mine. Mom had manipulated and guilted me until I gave it up.
But this time, I wasn't going to let her have her way. I wasn't going to let her ruin my future.
Driven by frustration, I drove to the nearest bar. Inside, I hit the counter and started ordering drinks, gulping down whatever the bartender poured to numb the pain. When I caught him watching me, I paid and left.
Cold air hit me. Next thing I knew, I was at a hotel desk, slurring my name to her. The girl behind the counter kept staring at my wet cheeks and runny mascara.
My vision was so blurry I had to squint to find the key card on the counter. I grabbed it, staggered to the elevators, matched the room number on the sleeve, and swiped the door open. I stripped and hit the bathroom.
Came out minutes later, naked. Through the blur, a man moved toward me. Before my brain caught up, his lips were on mine, hard, hungry, like he’d been waiting. I wanted to push him away, but I found myself wrapping my arms around his neck.
Using his other hand to remove his shirt, he carried me and placed me on the bed with his lips still on mine.
His cold chest suddenly pressed against mine without allowing me to take a break, his warm finger slipped into my dripping p***y ,a moan escaped my lips.
“You’re damn tight,” he groaned. He didn’t wait a second before slipping another finger in.
I winced.
“You asked for this” he moaned into my ear.
