Chapter 1 The Therapist
Therapy it’s suppose to help and get your head on right. Help sort out thoughts and feelings. Even talking about dreams so they make sense. I don’t see the point in therapy. It wasn’t my idea to start going my parents were worried about some of my dreams. Things I dream of are not normal for a regular teen. According to them. Since they don’t understand what’s wrong. I’m now stuck laying in a couch listening to an old man with a pad of paper and pen. “Once again from the top. How does your dream start? Does it end the same way every time or does it change?” He looked up from his pad of paper, and stared at me. He’s the 3rd therapist I’ve been to now. So far each one says the same thing. They are just dreams with no meaning. Except I have a very wild imagination and I should go into writing or even movie making. “It’s starts out as the same thing. I’m a little kid who’s camping with family. My parents aren’t there they had to work. So I’m with aunts, uncles, and a couple of cousins who are about my age.” I start out stopping for a moment because I could hear him writing whatever notes. “Go on please don’t stop unless I ask.” I just stare at the ceiling. Reliving that awful dream I always had for the hundredth time. “So we get to the camp ground, and the adults are getting the tents, sleeping arrangements, getting lunch planned, and so on. After the tents are up and everyone got their beds made. Us kids went to the playground they had.” I had to pause because this part always seems really outlandish. “What happened at the playground?” He urged me to go on. “It starts off as kids playing having fun. Swinging on the swings, going down slides, playing tag. But when it got to playing hide and go seek. That’s when things take a turn. Every time. I’m hiding from my cousin and this man comes over. I don’t realize he’s there until he grabs me. Covering my mouth, and whispers ‘Dont make sound. I’ll help you win.’ I turned my head and it was my uncle. However, I didn’t recognize him.” I sat up from my laying down position turning to face the therapist. “So this man, is he familiar to you?” He asked looking down at his notes. “No just only in the dream. Along with everyone else I don’t recognize any of them. Just that they’re family. I don’t even know what I look like or if I’m a girl or a boy. I just live the experience of that person every night. And I can’t change the actions or decisions. I’ve tried. But it plays out the same every time.” I put my face in my hands. “Alright, now I want you to focus and really get in deep. Don’t stop until you get where your dream ends. I know it’s hard but please try.” I took a deep breath and closed my eyes focusing. “Do I really have to? I mean the overview I gave you is how it goes. I don’t see how me going over every little detail would help.” I suddenly felt really tired and laid down again. Bring my left arm over my eyes. “Please humor me. Start when the game of hide and go seek starts. Since that seems to be where everything turns.” With that I started the tell the dream leaving out no details. “Hey let’s play hide and go seek!” One of the older cousins called from the swings. The others were all in agreement and were tired from playing tag. “I’ll count! Everyone go hide, but stay close to the play ground. Don’t go pass the second layer of trees or you’ll be out of the game.” We all agreed to the rules and ran off to hide. I picked a bush near the slide big enough to peek around and not be seen by the seeker. I could also move back to the first tree line for extra cover. ‘Oh yeah I’m going to win hide and go seek!’ I thought as I heard a twig snap in the distance. I just brush it off as one of the other cousins trying to hide in the trees. The seeker finished counting and found two out the seven of us. Then finally there was only three us to be found. That’s when I was grabbed from behind. “It’s ok Sky I’ll help you win! They’ll never find you.” Then realizing it was my uncle. I relaxed and he uncovered my mouth. “How can I win? We can’t go pass the 2nd tree line or we lose.” I whispered to him and moved closer so I didn’t have to be so loud. “Well there is the uncle rule.” He whispered back and I gave him a puzzled look. “Uncle rule?” I asked never hearing about this rule and being very curious. “Yes the uncle rule meaning you can hide anywhere as long as you are with your uncle.” He points to himself and smiles. I thought about it but shook my head no. “That sounds like a neat rule but no one else said anything about it. So maybe the next round we can play with the uncle rule.” I whispered as the other were calling out that I won I was the last one to be found. I was just about to jump up with excitement. When my uncle grabbed me covered my mouth again, and carried me away into the trees. I was kicking, trying to scream, and anything I could trying to break free from his grip. I couldn’t get free. He was much bigger and strong then me. “Stop fighting me. This will be over before you know it.” He said through his teeth. Terror and dread washed over me. I had an overwhelming feeling that this was not going end well. Or me going home to my parents for that matter. We went deeper and deeper into the woods. It was early afternoon and now the sun was setting. “We’re deep enough in now. It’s time for you to see the uncle rule is really about.” With that he put me down. I was just barely able to see his eyes. They were black, emotionless. They seem to just devour me. “Uncle please I want to go back to the others. I’m hungry and you’re scaring me. I want to call my parents.” I plead with him but my words fell on deaf ears. He kept his hands on me the whole so I couldn’t take off running. He pulled out a small machete with one of his hands. “Don’t scream. Don’t run. Or you’ll never go home again.” My heart was racing to the point it felt like it was burst out of my chest. ‘I’m never going home.’ Was my thought when he cut off my shirt. Also cutting me in the process. A scream escaped my lips. Seeing the blood coming out of my chest and stomach wasn’t a lot but enough to make anyone freak out. He took a step back with a smirk. I advantage and kicked him between the legs as hard as I could. I ran back the way we came. Recognizing the area in the dark I started screaming for my aunts and other uncles. Also for my cousins. Just wanting to get away from this person. I could hear him behind me. Chasing me down and laughing a very sinister laugh. ‘Someone anyone! Help me!’ I thought as I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. My vision start to blur from my tears. ‘I don’t want to die.’ I thought as I ran into something hard. I sob into whatever it was I hit. “Oh?! What happened to your shirt? How on earth did you get out this far?” It was my aunt. The one that was married to that monster of an uncle. Choking back my tears of relief I told her everything that happened. She hugged me tight. “Oh my dear, that must have been so scary. However, you’re suppose to be dead right now. Seems like your uncle went soft.” She whispered in my ear. I pulled away and she let me go. Backing away in terror from her. “What?!” Was all I could choke out my uncle grabbed my hair and lifted me off the ground. “Because, you were chosen to die.” I jumped from seat at the therapist office. My breath labored from having to relive that dream while awake was to much. Dripping in sweat as if I was the running from my soon to be murderer. The therapist just sat there looking at me. “Are you alright? Do you need a drink?” He asked pointing to his little fridge he had in the corner by the door. I took a deep breath in and slowly let it out. Sitting down on the couch as I let my breath out. “No I’m good. It’s just that dream is so vivid. It’s like I lived it myself. Which is silly, because none of the people I see or the places are what I know.” I just shook my head looking down at my feet. ‘This quack is going to tell my parents and me the same thing the other two did. That I just have a wild imagination and I just need to change it.’ I thought as I heard him click his pen. “Do you follow anything about investigation wise? Also you and this person have the same name. Well same first name anyway of Sky.” I looked up at him taken back by his question. “No, I never have and my parents won’t allow it. Mainly because of this dream. Yeah we do share the same name. Which is why I just have an overactive imagination. According to the other therapist.” Being the only sixteen year old at my school who doesn’t read, watch or have anything to do with that makes it hard in school. Recently my parents pulled me from school because if I fell asleep in class I’d wake up screaming. Then came seeing the therapists and none have helped. The guy nodded his head sitting back in his chair and putting down that awful pad of paper. “Well you see that dream you’re having is actually an unsolved case that took place in the 1970’s. That campground you described went out of business long before you were born.” I could feel my eyes almost bugging out my head hearing him. I looked him in the eyes. “What?” Was all I could say before his receptionist walked in telling us the time was up.
