Chapter 5 Family History

We arrived at the library. Making our way to the books of the towns history we don’t say a word to each other. We haven’t spoken since he informed me a demon could be coming for my soul. Needless to say I haven’t slept. And honestly at this point I’m afraid to fall asleep. Which is funny I’m 16 soon to be 17 and I’m afraid of the dark, and sleeping. As we look through books I chuckle to myself. The Doc gives me a sideways glance but doesn’t say anything. Just shake my head at him. We finally find my family’s records, and Drakes good friend that works as a historian meets right as we find the books. Gathered at table that’s close by with no one around to hear our conversation Dr. Drake’s friend starts. “Hello I’m Ellen Mary. Dr. Lewis here told me The gist of what’s going on. Like your family might have some history of evil. So let’s just get into it.” She puts on reading glasses and quick starts reading the book. She’s right across from me and holding up the book so I can’t see or read any of it. Dr. Drake is sitting next to her and I can hear them whisper but not anything they’re saying. Hours pass of me bouncing my knee and waiting for them to spill the beans on their findings. “Sky is your name right?” She looked at me passed the book and I nodded my head yes. “And the person you dream of is also named Sky?” I nodded again. They whispered among themselves again and the book was down. And they were staring at me with blank expression. Looking at their expressionless face my heart started to sink. ‘Oh god, what now?’ Was all I could think when Dr. Drake opened his mouth to speak. “So dream Sky was apparently a member of your family. Very distant at this point in time. However, there’s more every 50 years in your family a person named Sky dies in your family. The last Sky was in the 1970’s and it seems like whatever is in your family you could meet an unfortunate end.” My eyes bugged out of my head. That was absolutely crazy! “Dream Sky was killed! Not some evil entity.” I said in a louder then I intended too. However, this is just nuts even for me. “Think about it Sky your dreams, the creature you dream afterward coming for you soul. It sounds crazy however this is very much true.” Dr. Drake said in a low form voice. I sank in my chair and hung my head. Crazy or not this was my reality, and unless I find way to get rid of the thing that’s after me. I won’t live for long. Or would I? “What age did the other Sky’s die at?” I asked in whisper. I didn’t really want to know but at the same time I might have time to figure this out. “The Sky from 1970’s died at the age of 10, Sky from 1920’s died at the age of 8, and Sky from 1870’s died at the of 12. Sadly the records don’t go pass that.” I froze. I had no idea on how to react. Dr. Drake just nodded his head. “Yes you are the oldest living Sky.” My family can’t be this messed up. They cared about looking the part of perfect family. Not trading a life of child for wealth. ‘Well it is possible. Most of the time parents are very strict with money. Well when it comes to spending it on me anyway. Though if I’m to die soon of a horrible reason…’ I just let my thoughts die because I really didn’t want to think about it. Being marked to die at a young age. “Sky I think we need to take a trip to the police station and see what we can dig up on your family. With that many deaths every so often someone is keeping it quiet.” Dr. Drake said standing up from the table. We both thanked his friend for meeting us and headed out the library. “But Dr. Drake it’s not common for younger kids to die at a young age back then.” Ellen said following us out of the library. She had a point unfortunate things happen. “However, it’s every 50 years and only to the kids named Sky.” He pointed out. “With my time on the force my gut says something is up and I’m going to find out what.” With that she watched us get into the car and drive away. Not to long after we were at the police station. Everyone smile and waved to Dr. Drake. The secretary let us back where the officers were and we went walked around a few desks and down to a hall. The first room to our right a person was standing in front and talking about the latest crime rates and so on. Dr. Drake went straight to what I amused was the chief. The guy standing at the front of the room. He had just dismissed everyone when he saw Dr. Drake standing in the door way. Once everyone was gone he closed the door and gestured for me to have a seat. “Who’s the kid Drake?” He asked eyeing me and then looking at Drake square in the eyes. “Sky Peters.” Dr. Drake said with no emotion and the chief’s face turned very hard almost taking a sour look. “There’s no way the same name. Wasn’t that…” he trailed off and looked at me. Dr. Drake nodded his head. And the chief moved closer to me. “But why on Earth would they use that name?” He questioned making a motion for me to stand up. Which I did so he could get a better look at me. “So Sky Peters, why are you here today?” He looked me in the eyes. Like he was trying to see if I had soul. “The doc and I were curious on the Sky that came before me. And if it was ever solved.” I answered as calmly as I could. Along with trying not to give to many details. “It was never solved I was the lead investigator on that case. And it was very tragic.” He finally broke his gaze and looked at Drake. “Why on Earth would you want information about that case?” Drake just stared hard at the chief, and shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe we missed something about the case. Like that Sky’s mental health was bad which led to the tragedy. Or maybe the worse happened and family caused it to happen.” There was a very long, quiet pause. The chief looked so uncomfortable like he was trying see if there any other way to change Drake’s mind. Though something was bugging me. “Chief who said that we wanted information on the case?” He wiped his head at me and got a very twisted smile. He started to roar and his face into a black pit, and I felt like I was being sucked into it. “Your mine Sky Peters! You were chosen!” I scream awaked and shoved myself away from the something. Landing hard on the floor in a chair. I wildly stood up and looked around me. Dr. Drake put his hand on my shoulder and I jumped. I almost punched him but stopped in time. I was breathing so hard I crumbled down to the floor. Like I just ran a mile without stopping gripping my chest. The sweat poured off of me. Whatever this thing is we need to get to the bottom of it and now!
