The Call Of Wolf As the days passed, Lila’s transformation—her understanding of herself, of her place in this world—became clearer. The moon was growing fuller, its light more intense, and with each passing night, she felt a deeper connection to the world around her. To Dante. To the wolves. The truth was, she was changing—becoming something more. And whether she was ready or not, the time was coming when she would have to face the true cost of their bond The nights seemed longer now. Lila found herself drawn to the forest, unable to resist the pull of the wilderness that had once terrified her. It was as though the trees whispered her name, their branches reaching out to her like beckoning hands. The ground beneath her feet felt alive, humming with a low, steady rhythm that matched the pulse of her own heart. She stood at the edge of the clearing outside Dante’s cabin, the moon hanging heavy in the sky above her. Its light bathed the world in silver, illuminating every blade of grass, every fallen leaf, every shadow that danced at the forest's edge. The night was alive with sounds—the hoot of an owl, the rustle of leaves, the distant howl of a wolf. Each sound seemed sharper, clearer, as though her senses were no longer entirely her own. Lila wrapped her arms around herself, the chill of the night air seeping through her thin sweater. She felt restless, her body buzzing with an energy she didn’t understand. It was the same feeling she had felt the night she first met Dante, the night when everything had changed. The same pull, the same hunger, the same unrelenting need to move. Behind her, the cabin door creaked open, and she turned to see Dante stepping out into the moonlight. He was barefoot, his broad frame silhouetted against the warm glow of the cabin’s interior. His golden eyes glinted in the dark, and for a moment, Lila’s breath caught in her throat. He looked more wolf than man, his presence commanding, powerful. “You feel it, don’t you?” he asked, his voice low and rough, as though the wolf inside him was speaking alongside him. Lila nodded, her throat dry. “I don’t know what it is,” she admitted. “But it’s… overwhelming. It’s like I can’t stay still. Like I need to run.” Dante’s lips curved into a faint smile, though there was an edge of sadness to it. He stepped closer, his bare feet silent on the grass, until he was standing just a few inches from her. The warmth of his body chased away the chill, and Lila found herself leaning into him without thinking. “It’s the call of the wolf,” he said softly. “The bond between you and the pack is growing stronger. Your senses are changing, your instincts sharpening. You’re becoming one of us, even if you don’t realize it yet.” Lila frowned, her brow furrowing. “But I’m not a wolf,” she said, her voice tinged with frustration. “I don’t feel like one. I don’t even know what I am anymore.” Dante reached out, his hand brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. His touch was gentle, but there was an intensity in his gaze that made her shiver. “You’re more than human, Lila,” he said. “And you’re more than wolf. You’re something… different. Something we don’t fully understand yet. But that doesn’t make you any less a part of this world.” Lila swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to believe him, to trust in his words, but the fear and uncertainty inside her were too strong. “What if I don’t belong here?” she whispered, her voice trembling. “What if I never will?” Dante’s hand cupped her cheek, his thumb tracing gentle circles on her skin. “You belong,” he said firmly, his voice steady. “You belong with me. With us. And no matter what happens, I’ll be here to guide you. To protect you.” His words sent a wave of warmth through her, but they also carried a weight she couldn’t ignore. She wasn’t just stepping into a new world—she was stepping into a role she didn’t fully understand, a role that came with responsibilities she wasn’t sure she could bear. The sound of a howl echoed through the night, sharp and clear, breaking the silence between them. Lila’s heart skipped a beat, her body tensing as the sound resonated deep within her. It wasn’t just a noise—it was a call, a summons that made her blood sing and her muscles ache with the need to respond. Dante’s eyes flashed gold, his expression growing serious. “It’s time,” he said, his voice a low growl. “The pack is gathering.” Lila stared at him, her pulse racing. “What does that mean?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Dante took her hand, his grip firm but reassuring. “It means you’re ready,” he said. “Ready to take your place among us.” Lila hesitated, fear and doubt warring within her. But when she looked into Dante’s eyes, she saw something she hadn’t expected—pride. He believed in her, even when she didn’t believe in herself. And for the first time, she felt a flicker of hope. Maybe she wasn’t as lost as she thought. “Come with me,” Dante said, his voice softening. “Let me show you.” She nodded, her resolve hardening. Whatever was waiting for her, she would face it. She didn’t know what she was, but she knew one thing for certain—she wasn’t alone. Not anymore. Dante led her into the forest, his hand never letting go of hers. The trees closed in around them, their branches forming a canopy that blocked out the sky. The air was thick with the scent of pine and earth, and Lila’s senses sharpened, every sound and smell magnified. As they walked, the howls grew louder, closer, until they broke through the trees into a wide clearing. The sight before her took her breath away. Wolves. Dozens of them, their fur glowing silver in the moonlight, their eyes reflecting the light like twin flames. They moved gracefully, their bodies powerful yet elegant, their presence commanding. They were waiting, their gazes fixed on Lila as she stepped into the clearing. Her heart raced, her palms sweating as she clung to Dante’s hand. She felt their eyes on her, felt the weight of their expectations, their curiosity. She was an outsider, a stranger, and yet she felt an undeniable connection to them—a pull that went beyond words. Dante stepped forward, his voice ringing out across the clearing. “This is Lila,” he said, his tone firm but filled with warmth. “She is one of us. And tonight, she takes her first step into our world.” The wolves howled in unison, their voices rising into the night, sending a shiver down Lila’s spine. It was a sound of acceptance, of unity, and for the first time, she felt like she belonged. Dante turned to her, his eyes glowing with pride. “You’re not alone anymore,” he said softly. “You’re home.” Lila looked around at the wolves, at the pack that had accepted her without question, and for the first time, she felt a flicker of hope. Maybe she wasn’t just a girl lost in the woods. Maybe she was something more. Something stronger. And as the moonlight bathed her in its silver glow, she took a deep breath and stepped forward, ready to embrace whatever came next.
