The invitation said 8 PM. Dinner.But the location he sent wasn't a restaurant. It was the 32nd floor of Sterling Tower. His company. His territory. I stood in front of the glass doors in a black pantsuit, hair pinned back, no jewelry except the watch I bought myself after the divorce. The one he called "cheap." The security guard almost didn’t let me in. "Ma’am, this is a private board meeting." "I know," I smiled, holding up my shareholder ID. "I'm on the board now." His face when I walked in... Priceless. The long mahogany table. 12 chairs. 12 shareholders. And the smell of Ethan’s cologne I used to love. At the head of it, Ethan Carter. My ex-husband. My betrayer. The man who took everything and thought I’d disappear. He was mid-sentence about quarterly losses when I pulled out a chair. Right across from him. The one he always saved for himself.
