The Wolfless Girl

~ Athena’s POV ~

Life can be seriously kind of funny, isn’t it? We think that the one who is holding the steering wheel of our lives is us, but reality is always different from what we believe in. The one we believe the most always ends up disappointing us and that’s what I forgot when I met that guy. The worst thing about betrayal is that it always comes from the person whom we trust the most.

“I am asking you something, Laura. Where is that b***h hiding? I want to see her in front of me. RIGHT THIS MOMENT”, roared Ash, and I just held my breath as I couldn’t let him find me. He will again beat me up for no good reason.

Ash is one of the twin cousins of mine who loves to torment me for no good reason. Elon, my uncle, is the current Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack and it comes in the strongest pack in the Wolf clan.

I am just a wolfless girl and that’s why Ash hates me to his guts. Well, I don’t know what his problem is, but I am just too scared to face him. Ash and his twin brother, Enzo, always make bets that will make me bleed faster and, in the process of beating me, I always end up losing consciousness.

Laura is the only person who treats me with respect in this pack. She treats me like her own child and that’s why I can’t see her in pain. I lost my parents when I was sixteen and, even though I was the daughter of the ex-Alpha, now I am nothing more than a slave in this pack.

I do all the menial jobs in the pack, like maintaining the packhouse, cleaning the toilets and washing all the utensils and the clothes of the pack’s members. They make sure that no one helps me out. The funny part is that even the Omegas look down on me.

I am Athena , the Silver Eyed monster. Well, that’s what everyone calls me in this pack because of the colour of my eyes. There is one more thing which they call me. A defected she-wolf. Not only because I am wolfless, but there is one more reason for that. After my parents' death, I lost my voice and the will to speak. I am nothing more than a mute, wolfless girl.

I was hiding in the wooden closet while I was listening to everything from inside. Whenever uncle yells at them, they just vent out their frustration at me. Ash is someone who hates me to his core and I only saw anger and hatred in those green eyes of his.

“I know that you are hiding in this room, Athena . Come out before I strangle this old hag. Do you want someone to die because of you”, he growled, and I just closed my ears.

No, I don’t want to go out. I am scared of him. He will again beat me, he will again abuse me. I want to escape this place, but if I did leave, then the rogues would kill me in an instant and there is one more reason why I am not leaving this place.

The Silver Moon Pack is the second most powerful pack in the werewolf clan and that makes my uncle one of the strongest Alphas.

“I... I don’t know anything, Alpha”, Laura pleaded to him while she gasped for air.

I don’t want to go out. He will surely punish me for something which I never did. My body started to tremble when I heard Laura's voice. Why? Why am I such a coward? Why can’t I face him? Why can’t he just let me go?

Why Moon Goddess?

Why did you choose such a future for me? It’s kind of funny that my name was kept on the moon. On my eighteenth birthday, when I found that I didn’t have a wolf, I just cried as that was the only thing I could do at that time. There was not even a sound when I whimpered in dismay. I was hugging my knees while I was sitting inside the wooden closet.

When suddenly, the door of the closet opened with a bang and I just gasped in shock when his green eyes met my silver ones. I am only famous for one thing and that’s the weird colour of my eyes. Some say it’s the blessing of the Moon goddess and some say that one day I will become the reason for the destruction of the werewolves.

Every werewolf wants to meet their fated mate as they are someone who is chosen by the moon goddess to love, cherish and protect us and I dreamt about the same thing. I thought that after facing all the hardships, I would be able to peacefully live my life, but not everything goes according to our wishes. I don’t want a mate, I just want one person who cares deeply for me.

Ash's eyes were filled with rage and he immediately grabbed me by my hair, making me writhed in pain.

“So, you were hiding here, my personal punching bag. Didn’t you hear me when I called out your name?”, he asked, while he just clenched my hair tightly in his fist.

I have bear this guy since my childhood days and I am not sure why he loathes me. There was not even a single day when he didn’t torment me.

I tried to remove his grasp, but I just received a tight slap for my little resistance. I just glanced at him with disbelief written all over my face as he was behaving rather irrationally and that’s something which is not new.

“Tsk, when will you stop acting like a pitiful person? Are you glaring at me!”, he yelled, and I received another tight slap on my face. I didn’t even glare at him and yet he slapped me without any reason. I only bowed down my head as I didn’t want to be kicked by him, but even then he pulled my hair back, which was enough to make me wince in pain.

He then slapped me hard and I just fell on the floor. Laura tried to stop him from kicking me, but he just pushed her away. I can’t handle this anymore. I want to give up on my life, but I am so unfortunate that I am not even able to do that thing.

As without the permission of the Alpha, I am not even able to kill myself.

“You should stop beating her now, Ash. I can’t see my sister getting hurt. Just look at the way she is looking. Her body is bruised and her hair is dishevelled. Tsk, who will marry at this rate. We should stop treating her like a punching bag now as we have received a request from the Alpha of the neighbouring pack that he wants to take one of our pack girls as his Luna.

As you see, our younger sister is quite young and everyone in the pack has already found their mates, so that means only Athena is left in our pack”, exclaimed Enzo, while he entered the room with a smirk on his face.

Enzo is the younger twin and they also have one sister who is as mean as them and she is not that young. I am 24, and she is just one year younger than me. Why do they want me to get married to some older man? I am seriously pitiful that I can’t even say no to that offer.

“Well, let’s tell our parents that our dear cousin has agreed to marry that Alpha. At least she will spend her life as someone’s Luna. As we know that a women's role is limited in our pack, so we should not waste this opportunity”, asserted Ash, while he kicked me for one last time before taking his leave.

Enzo just laughed at my condition and I just closed my eyes while covering my eyes with my hand. They dragged Laura with them and I tried my best to stand up with the strength which was left in my body. I limped towards the dressing table to see my face in the mirror.

I just slid my fingers on the mirror when I saw the bruise around my swollen eyes and my lips were also split and blood was coming out from the side of my mouth. Even my arms and abdominal area have turned bluish. I tied my brunette hair into a high ponytail while I applied some disinfectant to the side of my lips.

Werewolves do heal quickly, but that’s not the case with me. Why is it just me? Why don’t people want me or need me? Why am I so useless and unwanted? I know that I am just a worthless person in this pack, but I still thought that maybe people would care about me after my parents' death, but I forgot that a person can never change.

No, I am not going to marry some lunatic old pervert. It’s a good thing that Ryan gifted me a phone so that I could contact him. I immediately messaged him on his number while I waited for his response. Maybe he is not near his phone. I need to escape from this place and I know that Ryan will surely accept me.

I collected all my belongings from Laura’s room. She is seriously a kind person, and even after staying in such a small room, which is more like a closet, she shared her room with me. She might be an omega, but her heart is quite big compared to other werewolves.

Since childhood days, Ryan has been the only guy who cared deeply for me and whenever I shed tears, he just wiped my tears away with his sweet kisses and his kind words. We do belong to different packs, but he never treated me like an enemy.

In the night time when no one was patrolling the pack, I just wrote a letter to Laura and when I walked towards her, I saw that she was sleeping soundly on the floor, so I didn’t disturb her as she must be tired after doing the work. I just left a letter for her near her and after that, I took my leave.

I looked at my wristwatch, but there was no trace of Ryan. I was waiting for him near the old tree, but he was nowhere to be found.

He is the only guy who cried with me at my parents' death and this place is something which we treat as our hideout. I might not speak anything, but he understands me without any words. I don’t care if he is my mate or not as all I care about is that he loves me and I feel the same thing for him.

Suddenly, I saw two people dashing towards my direction while they were yelling in loud voices, “We found her, Alpha. That b***h is trying to escape.”

After hearing their words, I just glanced at them with confused gaze, but before they could catch me, I ran away with all my might.

What’s happening here? Who told them about my escape plan? I was running in the dark forest and suddenly, one of my slippers broke, so I threw it off and it did hit someone, as I heard a man’s deep voice coming from the bushes which made me scared, so I dashed towards the outskirts of the pack as I am certain that I will meet Ryan at that place.

Only he understands my pain, as he did tell me that even though he is the next Alpha of the Shadow Pack, he is still treated like a nobody. I know that he will surely stop this damn marriage of mine with that old bastard.

They want to turn my marriage into some sort of business, but I will never allow them to play with my feelings. I may be a defected she-wolf, but even someone like me have the right to see a bright future for myself, right?

My feet were covered with blisters, mud and blood, but I am not able to control my happiness as I am finally free from the clutches of the Silver Moon Pack. I will no longer allow them to play with me and my emotions.

I gasped for air, but even then I didn’t stop running. He must be waiting for me and I know how much Ryan hates to wait for people. All these years we have dated each other silently and no one is aware of our relationship.

I looked at the half-knitted muffler which I made for him. I know that he might not need this, but I still want to do something for him as I don’t have enough money to buy anything luxurious for him. Ryan did say that he loved my handmade things.

After running for a while, I finally reached near his pack and after waiting for him for a while in the dark forest, I finally saw my Ryan.

He still had the perfect charming smile, his dark brown hair which was nicely waxed and his blue eyes which were deep like an ocean, and the light stubble on his face. I don’t think that I can get enough of him in this life of mine. He is just too perfect for someone like me.

I dashed towards his direction with a broad smile on my face, but before I could reach him, I saw a beautiful woman with dirty blonde hair who kissed him passionately. That girl's back was turned on me, so I was not able to see her face, but when she turned around, I saw a familiar face.

The girl was none other than my cousin, Fiona, who was famous for changing her partners, but what is she doing with my Ryan?

No, Ryan can never cheat on me. He loves me and only me. I must be misunderstanding the situation and nothing else. How can my boyfriend cheat on me with my cousin? He is well aware how much they all torment me in the pack. Maybe that’s the reason why he is talking with her. He must persuade her to tell her brothers to stop tormenting me. Yes, that’s the only thing which is possible, as no one can snatch my Ryan from me.

I was hiding in the bushes as I wanted to hear them and what exactly they were talking about in such a way, but suddenly someone grabbed me by my collar and when I turned around, I saw Ash and Enzo. They were accompanied by their parents. Why are they here?

“I finally caught the rat. Ryan and Fiona see who is here to congratulate you on your wedding. It’s your mute girlfriend, Ryan. Don’t you want to say something to her? You are a convincing actor, soon to be Alpha Ryan”, asserted Ash loudly, while he threw me near Ryan’s feet and I just glanced at him with disbelief written all over my face.

This can’t be true, right? You do love me, right, Ryan? I tried to ask him these questions while I gazed at him with a doleful expression on my face.

“I am tired of playing dumb charade with you now and I can’t spend my whole life playing this game with you. It’s a good thing that you witnessed everything on your own and now I don’t have to act like I am in love with someone as pathetic as you.

There is only one thing that I want from you and I will get that thing after taking your life”, he told me all this stuff without blinking his eyes. I was still lying on the ground near his feet and then suddenly, Fiona grabbed me by my hair while she crouched down on the ground with a pissed look on her face.

Fiona gently whispered in my ear while she pulled back my hair, “You poor soul. You don’t know a thing and yet you are dying in such a pitiful way. Well, who told you to steal something which belonged to me? Nah, I am not talking about Ryan.”

Everyone surrounded me while I glanced up at the night sky. There was a beautiful full moon shining in the sky and some of the tears fell on my cheeks while everybody began to kick me. I want to ask Ryan why exactly he pulled such a cruel joke on me, but I am so unfortunate that I am not capable enough to ask this thing from him.

Maybe in the afterlife I will be able to meet my parents. I will surely ask them why they live with me so suddenly. I thought that Ryan had fallen in love with me, but not every dream comes true. Ash and Enzo laughed when they saw the half-knitted muffler and, after that, they gave the muffler to Ryan and he just started to strangle me with the same muffler which I made with him with all my heart.

“If it was not for the title of Alpha, then I wouldn’t even look at someone as ugly as you. There was never a day when I even liked you even a little bit. You are and you will always remain a slave in this and even the next life of yours. Oh, one more thing, I did not even once like the things which you made for me with your hands.

Everything was just a lie which I said just to trap you. For me, there is nothing more important than power and a weak thing like you is just not my type. I did enjoy your body, but that’s it”, after saying those words to me, he applied all his strength to strangle me to death.

I felt suffocated while I tried to throw my legs here and there to show my resistance, but even after seeing pain in my eyes, he didn’t stop. I glared at him with wide eyes while I wriggled on the ground. Well, I can’t even yell for help. I tried to scream, but nothing came out of my mouth.

What was my mistake in all of this? My eyes started to close when I witnessed that everyone started to celebrate my death. Should I be happy that at least they are celebrating something for me? Ryan then placed his hand on mine and I just felt a deep pain inside my heart.

“Every and every person in both the packs hated you, Athena . You are just a silver-eyed monster to all of us. We waited for this night for all these years and now everything will go according to my plans. I will take Fiona as my Luna”, Ryan whispered to me, and after that, he tied my hands with the same muffler.

If they hated me so much, then why didn’t they kill me before? Why did they wait for so long? They should have killed me the day I lost my parents, so why did they torment me for all these years?

This was a full-fledged plan to remove me from their path. I just have some regrets in this life of mine that I was not able to stand against all these people who are responsible for pushing me into the dark abyss. There was not even a single person who loved me in this place or even cared about me.

I don’t know why, but there is still a part of me who was not ready to leave this world. They dug the ground and after that, they just buried me in the ground. I was still alive and they buried me. I was finally able to see their faces for the one last time when they threw the mud at me.

They all broke my trust in some way. The uncle and aunt who were supposed to protect me ended up taking my life, the cousins who were supposed to become my strength ended up snatching away everything and the guy who was supposed to cherish me ended up betraying me in the end. Everyone smiled after throwing the mud on me and Ryan and Fiona even kissed one another while he proposed her under the full moonlight and she accepted his offer while she threw her arms around his neck. Maybe that’s how the goddess wrote my fate.

Suddenly, I heard a sweet voice while my eyes were closed and one last tear escaped from my eyes, “You have withstood their abuse for a long time, my child, and now it’s time for you to take your revenge. All these people will pay the price for hurting you. I, Selene, the moon goddess, will turn the time to the day when you lost everything. You will have your revenge and that’s my promise to you, my child. You might not be aware of this, but you are special, my child.”

I only smiled after hearing her sweet voice which was trying to reassure me. I just want to make them pay for what they did to me. If there is something like a second chance, then I won’t ever trust anyone as it’s a mistake and I am not going to repeat the same mistake in my next life. They have all hurt my soul and now my heart is only filled with one emotion and that’s pure hatred. I will only have peace when I ruin their lives and take back what rightfully belongs to me. I will be back to take my revenge.
