1726 Words
Two years later. The world is in a tragedy, a coronavirus has struck in China, and is spreading rapidly all over. A pandemic has been declared, a mistake was made but no one knows who. Research institutes all over the world are in a rush trying to find a solution, no blame games for now.  The coronavirus is vicious and seems to have a thirst for death. Old people are more vulnerable and the young are the carriers of the virus and still vulnerable. A total confusion all over the world.  Two weeks down since the outbreak and the situation is terrible, something has to be done and it should be done very fast. At liberty hall, Taita hills. “Mr. President, we never anticipated the outbreak to be this vicious,”  Tole said, in a task force meeting.  They are all wearing masks and gloves and are not comfortable with them at all. The new normal is depressing and tiring.  They have a solution to the problem but they are here to discuss how they will affect the genetic vaccine to their citizens and the world.  Tole continues talking, “We need to change our strategy very fast, results are out for the one million people we have tested already, so far we have 1,161 total active cases, 50 deceased and none are yet to be recovered because we have not started administering our genetic vaccine against the coronavirus.”  “What are the stats for the whole world?” Mwasi the psychologist asked. “Okay, all over the world we have 2,801,543 active cases and 338,632 deaths, no recoveries yet though some countries are administering antimalarials to the infected according to the World Health Organization (WHO) report. Mr. President do you have something to say?” “Yes, is the medical team ready to administer the vaccine?”  “They are all in position all over the country awaiting our directive to commence.”  “Good I want the activity to begin tomorrow morning.”  “Kindly, can I ask, don’t we need approval from the WHO?” “No, no, no, not at all, this is an internal issue, not a world issue, the moment we cross borders in giving the vaccine we will need their approval. Mr. Pepo, is the military in position? They should help in the delivery of the vaccine, logistics, and maintaining order.” “Mr. President all that is in order, they await my instructions.” “Good job, how long will the vaccine fight the coronavirus, Mr. Brian?” “Well according to our projections those infected would be stable after four days upon receiving the vaccine, and they would not be infectious to others after seven days.” “Do you mean in two months we would be able to wipe out coronavirus in our country.” “Yes, Mr. President.” “Perfect, we shall keep in contact with other countries and see how we can help them, but first they have to see that our genetic vaccine works. So ensure from tomorrow all over the country the vaccination commences.” “Thanks, team for your continued support especially those who saw this vaccine ready in time.” Lucia the vice President talked, “We have lost 338,632 people all over the world, our goal is to protect mankind and stop anyone trying to hurt the planet. Let us work hand in hand to ensure we win this war. Our mission is to protect the planet given to us by God and not destroy it.” They all bowed in agreement and she added. “What are the plans for lockdown and controlling traffic coming in and out of our country Mwakio?” “For now we do not need a total lockdown, we only need a curfew and a controlled populace. Only the necessary businesses would be in operation, no flight is coming in or out, for the borders anyone coming in must be immunized.” “Thank you very much, keep on the good work, for now, we can go address the nation about our plans. I am very sure my people will accept our plans for them and we should be the first one to be vaccinated.” President concluded the meeting. The next day Kenyans turned out at their different stations to be vaccinated, all wearing masks and some wearing gloves. Those in quarantine were vaccinated too that same day. The operation went on for one month, two drops at each nostril, and three drops through the month, seven drops for each individual.  Some nations were not happy about this, others were happy especially the neighboring countries who made their own orders to vaccinate their people.  Many accepted to be vaccinated, free of charge, some people tried to disrupt the process but the military silenced and controlled them and never dared to do anything stupid. Rumors were heard all over that the vaccine was not working but after that one month all those infected and vaccinated recovered.  The President declared the end of coronavirus in Kenya and promised in one week everything would go back to normal.  Many thought there were some cover-ups but none was available, the country was free of the virus. A week passed and everything went back to normal, quarantine centers were closed, no masks and gloves, schools reopened, businesses were opened and once again people were free to move around.  People were happy and this pushed them to enjoy themselves in different ways. Friends and families had missed hanging out together, people went for a swim, a meal, a drink, a party they did everything they could think of.  The country was in a happy mood, in the same spirit, Sofi who was single met with Tole who was also single. At the office in liberty hall, Tole kept on gazing at Sofi with suggestive eyes.  They had moved out of the city due to the already gone outbreak, at the village the risk was low compared to the city. “Why are you gazing at me weirdly, what is wrong?” Sofi inquired. “Nothing, can I take you for dinner tonight?” “Really, why?” “Come on, I would like us to celebrate our victory over the outbreak.”  “I see, that is a good idea, your request is accepted then, where are you taking me for dinner?”   “Let us meet at Winner’s restaurant at eight.” “Okay, deal.” she walked away happily, it is in common nature for humans to have the tendencies to enjoy themselves after some kind of victory.  They all had the right to feel this festive mood.  Tole has been single for a better time of his life. All he has been doing in life is scientific research, publishing one paper after the other.  Generally, his life has been boring and he does not have any skills in handling women.  He sat at the restaurant shakingly and scared, dreading how the meet up would be. Well shaved and dressed casually on T-shirt and jeans. Shortly, Sofi arrived at Winner’s restaurant. She looked very fresh, a short red-dotted dress made everyone look at her in admiration. Tole could not believe what he saw, his heart was full of happiness but his face was sacred because he had no clue how to handle such beauty.  As she approached they smiled at each other, Sofi knew what she did. She was dressed to kill, to attract everyone’s attention, thoughts, and imagination.  “Hey boy, why do you look very scared?”  “Oh my, do I look scared? I am only frozen by your beauty. I wish the office would allow you to dress like this to work every day.” They both end up laughing hard at this thought. “Why? So that you keep looking at me every day?” “Not really, you look very pretty, am really impressed.” “Ohh that is sweet of you to say, thank you.” “Welcome, what would you take tonight?” They make their orders and enjoy the victory meal together. As they ate they kept looking at each other and smiling. “This was a great victory against the virus,” he said, “people are extremely happy that the government managed the situation.” “That is true, I am sad for the families who lost their loved ones.” “May those who lost their lives rest in peace.” Tole seemed uncomfortable and did not know how to bring up a spicy topic for discussion. Instead, Sofi provoked him to change the subject. “Hey, do you have a girlfriend.” “No, I have never had a girl in my life.” “You can’t be serious, how do you stay all that time without someone?” “My love all through was for science but with time I have come to realize as a human, we need another human. Some things can not be satisfied with our careers, we need another emotional being, we need that companion, it is very important.” “Sure, you see I always tell you to try and enjoy life, social life is very important in one’s life. You need people close to you, people, who can love you with your flaws.” “That is true, what about you, how have you been fairing in this life of socialism?” “I have had several people in my life,” she smiled out with a nostalgic expression, “but in one way or another they had to end.” “I see, you are a step ahead, you are not like me.” “What do you mean?” “I have never been with anyone at all.” “Oh my, here we are with a virgin. Anyway, you are a saint.” They both laugh heartily. “No, I am not a saint, I have done other creepy things in my life. Why do people indulging in s*x seen as not saint by the way.” “Good question” “Is s*x bad, is that the reason?” “s*x itself is not bad, but doing it out of marriage and before marriage is wrong. s*x is supposed to be done inside marriage, that is husband and wife.” “I see!” “But many people can not control their temperatures that is why they end up doing it.” “And what makes someone commit infidelity yet they have someone to cool them down inside their marriage?” “To be honest I really don't know, but they must have a reason.” They finished eating and walked out of the Winners restaurant. Tole escorted Sofi to her home and outside Sofi's home, they even talked and talked. They decided to finish their date by kissing, they all wanted something from each other. They kissed passionately and that was their perfect first date.  The African Union invited Kenya to help the whole region of Africa to heal.  Other regions like Australia, Europe, and India also embraced the same with an acceptance of several countries that did not have confidence in the vaccine.  Kenya produced enough vaccines and was distributed all over the region and the country made a great fortune out of this. The fortune will be used in serving the citizens and the world accordingly. That is how the virus was won.
