Grandma's Request

1126 Words
I walk up the steps on the back patio and head inside my home, Trinity and my grandmother are sitting at the kitchen table, Trinity is slouched over her head on the table, her arms covering her face while she cries, my grandmother rubs her back trying to soothe her. They hear the door open and Trinity perks up, she opens her mouth to say something but I cut her off, she lets out a small whimper in response. "I don't want to hear your apologies right now, but I do want to know everything." I tell them. "My sweet Chloe I wish I could be the one to tell you about this world but sadly now is not the time, Unfortunately, I have to leave soon, so I can only give you bits and pieces." My grandmother says. "Okay so you just decide to drop this bombshell on me out of no where and then leave?" I shout, starting to become angry. "Chloe darling, come sit will you?" She says her tone soothing me. I go to sit down at the far side of the table and cross my arms, I'm still angry but she's my grandmother and I have always trusted and respected her. My grandmother nods her head taking a sip of her coffee before she starts to speak. "Darling you were only two at the time your parents died, I swore from that day on I would protect you until my last dying breath. and I'm afraid that day may be drawing near." she says letting out a long sigh. I can see the sad look on her face and I start to notice the dark bags under her eyes and how much weight she's lost. "Grandma Lyla, what's going on you seemed just fine this morning?" Trinity speaks up. "I'm afraid I have been putting off death for quite sometime now" She says to us. "but grandma you're only 65" I tell her. "actually dears I'm 165" She chuckles. "But how is that even possible?" Trinity asks, I give my grandmother a quizzical look, how could she possibly be that old. "I've been having a little help from a certain moon goddess." My grandmother smirks. "WAIT? You've spoken to Selene?" Trinity shouts. "Wait? the lady from that Greek legend?" I ask Trinity and she gives me a small nod. "Yes dear, Such a wonderful young lady." Grandma says taking another sip. "Wait so what have you been protecting me from? How has this woman Selene been helping you?" I ask her. "What I am about to tell you can not leave this room, do you understand me?" She says sternly looking between Trinity and myself. We both give her nods knowing that if my grandmother was telling us to keep something a secret it must be important. "Chloe, there is something you must know," Grandma says coming to sit next to me and grabbing my hand. "you are in danger and I can no longer protect you from it, I have spent the past 15 years trying to find a way to save you but I have failed. You are so powerful but you are missing something important and only you can figure out what that is. The moon goddess has forbade me from telling you anything else for the journey you are about to embark on requires a great sacrifice, a sacrifice only you alone can make." She says to me giving me a sad smile, before looking over to Trinity. "Trinity dear, I need you to protect my granddaughter." She says to her. "How- how can I protect her?" Trinity says her voice breaking. My grandmother gives her a knowing look, and Trinity nods. "I know what I must do." She says before looking down at the floor, tears in her eyes. I look back and forth between the two my eyes are full of tears, My grandmother just gave me this cryptic message about some destiny I have and she cant even tell me what it is, and not only that but I am about to lose the only family I have left. "Grandma you cant leave me, I need you!" I beg her my arms wrapping around her not wanting to let her go. "My dear you are so much stronger than you know, besides you are a Donovan." She says to me wiping my tears away. "What does being a Donovan have to do with anything?" I ask her sniffling. "Honey, It has everything to do with everything!" She says throwing her hands up in the air. "What does that even mean?" I let out a small chuckle in between my sobs. "Only Alexander knows." She whispers to me, leaning back and giving a wink. She stands up and gives us each a hug before walking out of the kitchen. Trinity and I look at each other as we hear the front door open. We both jump up running to the front door as fast as we can, but once we open it she's gone. I step outside looking up and down the street but she's no where to be found its as if she just disappeared into nothing. I stand there as I let the tears flow waiting to see if she would return, but she never did. I turn around to head inside but before I can I notice an envelope sitting on the porch swing. I walk over and pick up the envelope as Trinity watch's me from the door way, I open the envelope pulling out a single piece of paper, in a language I don't understand. The only thing I can really make out is my name and birthdate. "What is it?" Trinity asks. "I- I don't know" I try to spit out. "Oh for heavens sake give it here." She says walking over to me and snatching it from my hands. "Holy s**t!" She says staring at me with wide eyes, backing away slightly. "Do you know what this is Chloe? What this means?" She says excitement in her voice. "Its looks like it could be my birth certificate or something." I tell her. "Its an announcement, Chloe!" She tells me looking at me. I give her a look telling her I don't understand. She rolls her eyes before continuing. "It announcing the birth of the future Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack" She says giving me a look. "I'm still lost Trinity, what does this have to do with me?" I ask her. "Your father was Alexander Donovan! You were their future alpha! Your parents were werewolves Chloe!" She says jumping up and down. My world starts to spin around me as my eyes go black and darkness consumes me.
