A secret between friends

1591 Words
Chloe's POV After Trinity's assault on me we headed down stairs. I say assault because Trinity took it upon herself to use her brute strength to pin me down and tickle me for a good 10 minutes. At this point I'm red in the face and covered in scratch marks looking like I just rolled out of bed, whist Trinity looks like a supermodel not even a hair out of place. We meet my grandma Lyla in the kitchen, she's sitting there with her grey hair in a bun and her reading glasses over her hazel eyes. She looks like she's reading through some papers for work, so I don't interrupt her and instead I go to put a pot of coffee on in hopes of sobering up before our talk with her. I pour Trinity and me each a cup and we sit down across the table from my grandmother. She sees were finally ready and puts her papers away into her bag. "It took you girls long enough," Grandma Lyla says with a stern look on her face. I catch her glancing back and forth between Trinity and myself before shaking her head and letting out a chuckle. "Trinity dear, you really should go easy on the poor pup." my grandmother says. Did she just call me a pup, that's such a random thing to call me, I let out a giggle at my grandmothers silliness and look over at Trinity who is wearing that same look from earlier today, the look of her world crashing down all around her. "T are you okay? you don't look so good." I ask her. Her mouth begins to open and shut like a fish out of water. My grandmother is just laughing away like she had just told the joke of a lifetime, and I guess it was in a kind of way. Because what my grandmother said next not only made me question my entire friendship but also my entire life. "Yes my dear I know you are a werewolf. I have known for the past 10 years, ever since you and your mother moved into town." Grandma says to her. I look back and forth completely stunned, thinking my grandmother must be losing her mind. "Grandma what are you talking about?" I ask her. "You knew?" Trinity speaks up. "All of this time you knew and never said anything?" "Of course my dear when you get to be my age you can sniff anyone out pretty easily." My grandmother reply's. "So are you a wolf as well? you don't smell like one." Trinity says. "I'm a witch my dear, I've masked my scent to make me seem human." She states. Trinity's leaning forward now her elbows on her knees and her hands holding her head up as she's taking in all of this new information. "ha ha very funny, T you got my grandmother in on a prank? how'd you manage that?" I ask her intrigued now. "Dear do you mind taking my granddaughter outside for some fresh air" Grandma says giving Trinity a wink. Trinity looks nervous but gives my grandmother a nod before grabbing my hand and dragging me outside. "I don't want you to freak out C. Promise me okay?" she says, tears starting to form in her eyes. I just look at her confused. Why would I freak out? "Please, I cant do this unless you promise!" She says looking genuinely scared at my lack of response. I give her a nod before rolling my eyes. As if I'm going to fall for this, I do have to give her credit. She seems seriously invested in this prank, I say to myself just as Trinity starts to strip. "TRINITY! WHAT THE HELL WHAT IF SOMEONE SEES YOU?" I shout covering my eyes. She's never been shy about her body but this is a bit much. All of a sudden I hear cracking noises that sound like bones breaking. My eyes snap open and I see a large light brown wolf in front of me, Trinity is nowhere in sight and I start to think that maybe the wolf ate her, The wolf starts to walk closer to me, so I start to back away from it not wanting to end up like little red riding hood. As I'm backing away, I trip and fall down. I reach my hand out trying to catch myself but instead it lands on a sharp rock that slices right through it, I wince in pain, The wolf lets out a loud howl, It must have smelled my blood and decided it wants to eat me too. I hop up and run towards the back door, but the wolf is quicker then me, It blocks my path and lets out a low growl as it gets into a pouncing position ready to attack. I make a break for it and run into the forest behind the house, I weave between the trees going as fast as my feet can carry me. I don't know how long I've been running for, my legs are tired and the soles of my feet are bleeding from my boots. I don't think the wolf is following me anymore, so I sit down next to a big oak tree curling up into a ball. I start to cry as I replay the conversation Trinity and my grandmother had. Could T be a werewolf? Was she not actually eaten by a wolf but instead turned into one? Why didn't she tell me? Why didn't my grandmother tell me? I feel so hurt and betrayed, my whole life feels like a lie. I start to feel tired and before I know it I'm waking up on the forest floor, The moon, at its peak which means I've been asleep for hours. Its the middle of winter and yet I feel so warm, I turn around to see a large wolf, Its fur almost looking like ashes from a fire a mixture of black and grey. It was snuggled up behind me, seemingly keeping me warm, as it sleeps. I should be scared of it shouldn't I? but if it was going to hurt me then why would it keep me warm? I stick my hand out trying to run my fingers through its fur but before I can, its head shoots up. I jump a little, backing away slightly as it lets out a sad whimper. I reach my hand out and it leans in, letting me stroke its head. The wolf closes its eyes and lays its head on my lap letting me know that it enjoys it. All of a sudden, I remember why I'm in the woods, werewolves!, werewolves are real! which means this could be one to! I jump up and the wolf does to, It starts looking around, letting out a growl, thinking that I must have spotted something dangerous. "Its okay!" I say reassuringly. The wolf tilts its head and looks at me, I mimic its actions, both of us curious about the other. I take a second to examine it. Its fur is a dark gray, almost the color of ashes and it's bigger than even Trinity's wolf, which tells me that it must be another werewolf. "I don't suspect you can tell me your name, can you?" I ask. The wolf lets out a little whine in response. "I'll take that as a no" I say. I don't know whether the wolf is a boy or a girl, and I don't think it would be appropriate to check. As this may very well be a person, I look it in the eyes and come up with a decision. "How about I call you Amber! Like the color of your eyes!" I said excitedly. It lets out a huff and turns its head, clearly irritated by my name choice. "Well, it's not my fault you won't tell me your name. So you'll just have to deal with it, Amber." I said firmly. The wolf snaps its head at me, clearly not wanting me to keep the name, It's then that the biggest grin spreads across my face, because based off the way it's acting, it's a male wolf and I was most definitely going to keep calling it Amber. My smile starts to fade as I take a look around my surroundings. My grandmother and Trinity must be worried and the warmth I felt earlier is gone. "Hey Amber, do you mind helping me find my way back home?" I asked him. He sniffs the air, probably trying to follow my sent trail, and starts to walk away. It turns its head towards me and gives a small bark, telling me to follow him. After a couple of minutes, I saw the clearing ahead. The wolf stops and sits down, letting me know we are here. I approached Amber, and sat on my knees in front of him. I reached my hand out and ran my fingers through his fur, scratching the back of his ears in the process. "Thank you," I say to him. "for everything" He nuzzles his head into my neck, before giving me a big lick on the face. I let out a giggle and stand up heading towards the clearing to my home. I try to take one last glance back at the wolf, but Amber is already gone. I let out a sigh, not looking forward to the conversation I was about to have.
