The gym looked exactly as Shay remembered when he and Melissa walked in under an archway of maroon and white balloons. Since no alcohol could be served or consumed on school property, the bar had been set up under a large tent in an alum’s yard across the street. Many of the attendees were gathered there.
In the gym, a band was playing pop favorites from the year of their graduation. No one much was dancing. But rather, those inside walked around, greeting one another and gathering in small groups to share old stories and catch up on current events.
Shay and Melissa joined a group of Shay’s jock buddies which included Randy and Stewart. They were telling stories and laughing about incidents that had happened during football seasons, when a handsome, clean-shaven man with blond curly hair
