It was nearly midnight by the time Deepan returned home. A pile-up had brought in a lot of casualties, making the cubicles and beds overflow into the corridors. And then the paperwork had to be done, even with the night shift there. A few of his shift stayed on to finish, but the two newbie nurses headed off as soon as handover was done.
Deepan was going to have a serious word with them next time he saw them. They couldn’t do the bare minimum and just leave.
He was exhausted by the time he pulled up outside the apartment block he lived in. And his mind was whirling. It was going to be some time before he could switch off his brain and get some sleep. That meant barely any time before he went back to work.
