Karl had had another tough day. Organizing someone to call Richard and arrange a meeting so they could get whatever Richard had purposefully left behind, had been a headache. And an embarrassment. Karl didn’t broadcast his personal problems. Everything about his life outside of being a cop was left at the door. Asking his colleagues for help made him feel like he couldn’t deal with things on his own. This was meant to be between him and Richard.
And yet his damn ex was determined to make sure he got whatever he could, even if it was stealing. Karl was certain he had returned all of Richard’s belongings to his mother’s house. It was his fault Richard still had a key, which Karl won’t overlook ever again. His sister’s husband had come out shortly after Richard left and changed all the locks
