Before I knew it, I was sitting in Lisa's crappy car headed out to a lake. The lake where I would have to kill someone. I didn't know how or even if I would die tonight also. The wolf within me demanded this, it craved his blood.
"Ayla?" Said Lisa waving one hand in my face as she pulled onto a dirt path.
"Yeah?" I didn't know how long she'd been trying to get my attention. My wolf was attempting to take control, it didn't want to wait, it just wanted him dead now.
"Day dreaming about your new boyfriend over there?" She smiled thinking that I was actually interested in the devil.
"He's not my boyfriend." I growled, with every moment my wolf was becoming harder to contain.
"Alright, sorry.." She said apologetically as she fidgeted with the radio.
We drove down the dark road until we saw a large log cabin, there were lights strung all around the area, on bushes and trees. It looked like a much bigger party than "just a few friends" there were more than a dozen cars parked along the road already.
I could feel my Wolf who was enraged, this might not be the time to kill him... This wasn't some small gathering like he'd said. How would I get him alone, what were the chances of no one hearing or seeing?
We parked behind a really nice hummer that made her car look like a hot wheels toy. Lisa glanced at me nervously. Was she nervous about the party or because I had snapped at her in the car? There was dance music playing inside, we walked around to the lakeside and saw groups of people all around. A few glanced our way, but didn't seem to show any interest. I listened for Dylan, but couldn't hear anything because there were just too many people around. Even with super hearing there was just too many people to single one voice out. All of their scents were hitting me hard, it was so mixed I could hardly stand it. I could smell flowers like jasmine and lilies. There were lots of moss, grass, sand, and very woodsy smells. My nose was on overload, but as soon as I walked through the building I narrowed down the scents to the one I was searching for. Peppermint. The devil smelled like peppermint, why did he have to smell like my favorite thing in the world?
As soon as we caught his scent my Wolf became uneasy. It was desperate to get rid of him, but the chances of that happening tonight was very low. He was standing nest to a tall beautiful girl, she had black hair down to her waist and olive toned skin that seemed flawless. She was leaning against him and laughing like he had just told the best joke. It was obvious she was into him. He almost didn't seem to notice, he kept talking to the others in the group with his hands in his pockets.
"Hey you made it!" He called as soon as he'd seen me. He pulled away from the tall beautiful she wolf and stepped towards me not completely leaving his group.
"Yeah I guess so."
I was imaging myself plunging a knife into his chest, when the girl behind him put her arms around him and spoke in a very whinny voice.
"Dylan, tell us another funny joke." She said as she stared daggers at me. She had this weird half smirk half smile on her face that actually made her look sea sick...
"Sorry ViVi, I'm gonna hang with Ayla for a minute."
"Ugh, you know I hate to be called that!!" She said stamping her foot then turning back to towards the group.
"I know," He winked and lead me to the back porch.
We walked out onto a large deck, a few people looked over at us then quickly walked inside. That was a little strange. Why did they all hurry inside after just one look?
"I'm glad you came, honestly I didn't think you would."
"I didn't think I would either." He stared at me for a moment. The moon was right above us, a full moon of all things. I had drifted my gaze up to it, my wolf was dying to gain control. I had only shifted once a year since I was thirteen. The more you shifted, the more control your wolf seemed to have.
"You know I dream about you sometimes." His admission shocked me and my face must have shown it, he immediately blushed then took a step back. "I didn't mean that in a weird way.
"What other way is there?" I demanded.
He seemed almost shy, he looked down at his feet like he was ashamed.
"All I know is, I recognized you the moment I stepped inside the diner. Your face was never clear, but you would always shift into wolf form in my dreams, when I'd try to get closer you would run away."
"How do you know it was me then? You don't have any clue what my wolf looks like!" My wolf seemed suddenly dormant, almost like it wasn’t there anymore. I couldn't feel their emotions, I couldn't feel their presence at all.
"Your smell, even in my dreams it was so potent. Sweet strawberries. It almost smothers me whenever you are near." He shrugged as he spoke, like what he was saying was completely normal.
"This is weird, I think I should go find Lisa."
"No!" He yelled grabbing my arm. " I mean please don't leave."
"I don't like being alone with you Dylan, it makes my Wokf uneasy." I lied.
"But surely you can feel this too?"
"Feel what?"
His shoulders slumped a bit with this revelation. He looked up into my eyes, there was a sadness I didn't understand.
"You're my mate!" He said exasperated.
"No I'm not." I stated flatly.
"Yes you are! It's the only reason I could be having that dream, the only reason I knew you before we even met. The reason your scent affects me so." He still had his hand around my wrist.
"I've dreamed about you too." I said angrily pulling away from him. "Except in my dreams you are the devil and you are a killer!."
