Chapter 5

As he sped through the forest, a actively avoided all other wolves. He knew that any shewolf would try to find him so he needed to hide. Then at the end, he will inevitably 'run into' Moira and claim her. He growled as he jumped over a fallen branch and raced towards a clearing, a couple miles towards the edge of the preserve. He slowed down as he looked up to the sky, marveling at the thousands of stars that scattered the dark sky. He huffed as he paused to enjoy the cool breeze before letting his mind wander. Of course it was back to Sunni. He couldn't help it! After tonight he won't be able to speak to, think about or even look at her to keep her protected from a possible jealous mate because once he's mated, whoever is with him will feel everything he feels. So he'd rather spend his last few free moments thinking about the human girl. Her grey eyes that light up or darken depending on her mood. Her hair and the way it shined, the curls that fell to her lower back. He wanted to bury his face in it and hold her close, like earlier today in the greenhouse. He loved how she fitted so nicely against him and he absolutely loved the intensity of her scent. Despite being a weird combo the lilac and cinnamon scent was comforting. It was weird, even though it was hours ago, he could still smell her scent as if she was near- His eyes snapped open when he heard a growl. Not the playful growl one would give to another but a threatening one. His heckles rose as he took in the scent. There was a scream and he took off into the direction. 'What was she doing here?' he thought to himself as he burst through another clearing. Taking in the scene, he saw red. A fighter from his pack, Betty, was on top of Sunni, who looked so pale and scared that it put his wolf into overdrive. Betty opened her mouth and aimed for Sunni's face. A loud growl ripped through him as he launched forward and tackled Betty off the girl and the two snapped at each other. The two were so engrossed with each other, they didn't see a certain curly hair teen flee until a howl broke them up. The two jumped away from each other as his dad and a few other older pack members came through the treeline. 'What is the meaning of this?!' his father said through their pack link. His hulking black wolf stood tall and proud as he stared at Betty and himself with a hard look. ' As I had alerted you earlier, there was a hunter and I was trying to dispose of her before Dipshit over here stopped me!' Betty snarled as she snapped at his paw. He growled before posing to launch at her before his dad stopped him. 'Archer! Why did you stop here, you know hunters are dangerous.' 'Dad, she wasn't a hunter! She is my classmate. She was coming to see the meteor shower before this asshole attacked her.' Betty growled at him as her glare grew more heated. 'Respect your elders boy.' 'I'll respect them when they know the difference between a hostile and a non hostile. Sunni is a saint and wouldn't hurt a fly.' he said rolling his eyes. "Then what's this?" Pearla, another Fighter said, holding up a hunting knife. He didn't realize she shifted until she spoke. She held a fairly big hunting knife. "While I do agree with Archer, because this is just a regular knife and not a a danger to us persay, we do need to be careful. Where is she?" The two looked at each other then to where Sunni was suppose to be laying, the only thing there was a small pile of blood. He whined as realized it was her blood. 'Will she be ok? I did manage to bite her .' Betty asked, a slight guilty tone as she realized she made a mistake. His father shook his head. 'She'll be fine. A normal bite won't change her. Only a bite from an Alpha can. I'll have Archer and a few other pack members keep an eye on her incase she lets the locals know. It wouldn't be good to have more humans in the area trying to hunt us down. Pearla, Will, track her down and make sure she gets home safe. Keep yourselves hidden. She was bit so she might have lost quite a bit of blood.' The two wolves nodded before Pearla shifted and followed Will towards the edge of the perserve. His father looks at him before nodding. 'The others don't know about this but Archer, you can step away from the run this time. Next time, you will find a mate and Luna.' Archer exhales in relief before he nodded and ran towards the direction of the pack house, feeling lighter before dark emotion filled him. Sunni was safe for now, but at what cost? She would have died if he hadn't shown up. Maybe it was for the better. If it meant she would live a full life, he will keep away from her, keep her safe from afar until she left their town to live the rest of her life, he will do it. 'It's for the best' he tried to remind himself as he changes his direction to Sunni's house. He needed to see her safe at home first. ๑✧๑ As soon a sher feet touched the ground after hopping off the small cliff, she booked it to her car, the adrenaline filling her to the max as she heard the two wolves fighting each other. She didn't turn around, in fear that the two were chasing her. Of course if they were, they would have gotten her already but the fear in her brain was filling her head with terrible scenarios that made her go faster. What normally was a thirty minute hike was slashed in half as she finally broke through the tree line. Pulling the keys from her pocket she tried to put the key in the slot but her adrenaline was wearing off and her hand was shaking badly. Taking a deep breath, she managed to still her hand long enough to open her door and start the car before driving off. Once she was a few miles away, her body started to relax before she winces. Her hand flew to her neck before pulling away. Her hand was stained red and she winces. The wolf bit her right between her neck and shoulder. There was also a lot of blood and honestly, she's surprised she can even see straight. She made it home in record time and she stumbled into the house and up the stairs into the bathroom. She looks into the mirror and sees her shirt torn and the bite wound pouring out blood. She immediately strips and gets into the shower, cleaning out the wound as best as she can before she gets out, pressing a towel against it as she digs for the first aid kit. No way she was going to the hospital! Her mother would never let her live it down! After she dressed her wounds, she went to her room and dressed in a huge sweater and crawled into bed, trying to calm her still erratic heart. Then suddenly she felt very tired and soon she was asleep. Only to be shocked out of her sleep when her mom came bursting into the room, shaking her awake. "Sunniva Delphine Grayson! Why are you still sleeping!" Her mother shouted angrily. Sunni's eyes snapped open and she jumped away from her mother and within a second she was backed against her closet door, looking frantic. Her mother looked shocked before concern filled her face. "Sunni? What's wrong sweetie?" Sunni winced as at the loudness of her mother's voice, covering her ears. "Ma you don't have to shout!" "...I wasn't shouting honey." Thais said in a lower voice, coming closer before crouching. "Are you ok?" Sunni stared at her hands and looked around her room, noting the clearness, more detailed items in her room. It was like she was looking through a 4k ultra tv but...better? She could even smell her mother's perfume she sprayed on two days ago. She starts sweating as she looks at her mother. "I...I-I don't know. Please don't be mad but I was bit by a wolf yesterday at the meteor shower and-" Her mother cuts her off, the concern becoming distress as she holds her daughter's shoulders. "Sunshine, that was almost three days ago. You mean to tell me you've been out all this time? I just thought you went to sleep after you got home from school….." Her mother's frantic voice faded out as she stared at her hands. Three days?? Standing up she rushes to the bathroom and pulls at the neck of her sweater. The bandage was still there and she teared at it and stared in disbelief. The wound was gone, as if it was never there. The only thing indicating there was ever a bite was the leftover dry blood on the bandages. She freaks and the only thing that doesn't send her into a panic attack is her mother's voice flowing in. "Honey! You need to go to the doctors!" Thais said, taking hold of the bandage then turning her around to look at the supposed wound. "There's nothing…" Sunni pales before giving a weak smile as she quickly comes up with an excuse knowing her mother. "I know, a terrible joke, but I really wasn't feeling well. I think I caught the bug going around school and just...didn't wake up." She finished her statement rather lamely but as her mother stares at her, she grows nervously and even a bit sweaty. Thais nods before smacking her on the back of her head. "Joke like that again and see what happens. You're not too old to be spanked. Now go back to bed, I'll bring in something for your stomach." She said sternly and Sunni nods, following her mother's instructions. She lays down and thinks. Was she really out for almost three days? She shivers. Aster was going to be pissed she missed the measurements. Luckily other than a day's worth of lessons, she shouldn't have missed much. So when she walked into school the next day, why was everyone staring at her?
