Chapter 12

1267 Words
When Archer drops them both off, Sunni turns to her brother, a small smile on her face. “Hey dude, why don’t you go first? I got to talk to Archer, ‘kay?’’ She pushed gently, her eyes soft. Cal looks between the two before smirking slightly. Holding his hands together, he brings them to the side of his face as he makes a kissy face. “You mean you want to smooch at your boyfriend, huh?’’ He’s out of the car before Sunni could reach back to smack him. With heated cheeks, she turns back to Archer, who looks like he was holding back some laughter. That made her blush redder. “Sorry about him, he’s a dork.’’ “Don’t worry about it. What did you want to talk about?’’ Looking down, she clenches her hands together with a frown. “Is Aster’s brother ok?’’ Surprised, he looked closer at her face and smiled softly when he saw genuine concern. Even when she was protecting her brother, she still felt sympathy. “Yes, most likely going to get a scolding and extra training for bullying Cal, but he is fine.’’ “Do...do you think Aster will be upset with me?’’ She asked softly. Archer frowned, jealousy filling him a bit. Sunni frowned when she looked at him curiously, the slightly bitter scent filling the car, somewhat ruining the earthy scent from Archer. “I mean, We have gardening club together and I don’t want it to be awkward between us.’’ Archer nods and the bitter scent disappears almost immediately, causing the dark-haired girl to smile. “Nah, he’s pretty level-headed. He’ll understand, so don’t worry.’’  She exhales softly, feeling the weight fall off her shoulder. While Blake, or whatever his name was, bullies her brother, she technically is a newly turned wolf and she could have done a lot of damage if it had escalated further. A thought hits her before she turns towards Archer, a curious look on her face. "When would I be able to turn into a wolf? Would I be able to turn anytime like you? What if I bite someone? Will they turn? What-" Archer cups her face, his thumb brushing against her lips and she clamps her mouth shut, her eyes wide. Archer's face was filled with amusement and another emotion she couldn't place at that moment. He speaks up. "Slow down Sunni, I promise I'll answer any and all questions okay? To answer some, yes you will be able to shift anytime, as long as you're in a safe area away from humans. The full moon is in a few days and that's when you'll have your first shift. It'll…" If she were to be honest, she kind of stopped listening. Partially because with everything going on, her mind was racing but also because of the warm, rough hand that was still cradling her face. She wasn't normally a touchy person, unless it's with her family, but she felt...at peace as she relaxed her head into his hand, the wild running thoughts slowing down as she took in Archer's voice. It wasn't overly deep and rough like his father's, it was actually similar to his mother's. Low, sultry, very charismatic. She didn't think that would count as a tone for a voice but the more she listens, it's how she would describe it.  He probably could have people melt in the palm of his hand if he tried- She blinked and pulled her head away, her face heating up at the intrusive thought. Archer paused his explanation, his face full of concern as he took in her face.  "Are you okay?" He asked, reaching for her hand. Sunni nods frantically, pulling away from him, feeling like kicking herself when she watches his face fall. Clearing her throat, she gives a wobbly smile. "I'm okay, just a lot of stuff to take in. It's all so….much." Archer reaches for her hand again, and this time she doesn't pull back. She takes note of the difference of their hands, his large and smooth of blemishes, hers filled with scars and nails roughed from a terrible biting habit. His thumb runs across the top of her hand then squeezes it. "I know it is, but I promise I will be with you every step of the way." He said, leaning forward to press his forehead against hers, his hazel eyes staring into hers, clear and honest. She smiles as she presses back, the urge to be near him growing. "Promise?" She hated how she sounded weak, but she really was afraid to go through this alone.  "Of course, and I give you full permission to kick my ass if I break it." He said, and she guffawed as she pulled back a bit, feeling positive as a smile breaks onto her face. There was a pause, the sound of the engine running smoothly as they stared at each other. Her heart starts to beat when his other hand moves to cup her face, his fingers curling around the curve of the base of her head and nape. He pressed his face closer as his eyes grew a bit darker. The air grew warm and it felt like something was clawing at her lower stomach as she moved her head closer as well , their lips barely touching together when "Ah...CHOO!"  Sunnis' head c****d back then slammed lightly against Archer's head as she sneezed, the both of them groaning as they held their forehead. Sunni looked away, feeling mortified that not only were they going to kiss but at the fact she sneezed and didn't even cover it, how embarrassing! While she was too busy berating herself, Archer stares at her fondly before bursting out in a peak of laughter. Sunni whines before glaring at him only for him to give her a cheeky smile. "Listen, I'll pick you up Saturday and I'll take you to the packhouse to meet everyone and answer more questions, okay?" She pauses, thinking about what she has to do that day before feeling it unimportant as she nods. "Sounds good…. Thanks again, Archer." His face feels warm at the warm smile she shot his way before watching her exit the car and into her house. 'Man, I really love her.'  he thinks to himself as he thought back to their almost kiss. He smiles to himself before driving back home. 'One day soon.' When Sunni closes the door she calls for Cal, only to hear him curse at the videogames he was playing up in his room. Shaking her head, she moves to the kitchen to start making dinner. An hour later, she clicks the stove off as she stirs the content in the pot, her ears tuning in as she hears her mother's car pull in the driveway. "Cal, Mom's home! Hurry up!" She shouts as she lifts the pot and turns to the table. Thais walked through the kitchen entryway just as Sunni placed the pot of soup down, a tired smile on her face as the woman smiled at her children. "Hello my little loves, how was your guy's day? did Anything interesting happen ?" Cal and Sunni locked eyes, a nervous feeling crawled up her before it went away as Cal shook his head. He gave her a wink before turning to their mother. "I failed my physical science quiz but that's about it." He said nonchalantly "Cal!" Their mother said, chastising him almost immediately. Sunni turned her head to hide her laugh as she poured the soup into the bowls.
