Chapter One : The Wedding of Revenge
“Do you, Alexander Kingston, take Isabella Hart to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
The priest’s voice echoed through the grand cathedral.
Alexander didn’t look at the woman standing beside him.
His cold gray eyes remained fixed on the altar, his expression unreadable.
“I do.”
The two words sent a murmur through the crowd.
Isabella tightened her trembling fingers around the bouquet. This was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, yet the man she had just married hadn’t smiled once since the ceremony began.
Not once.
She swallowed the strange feeling in her chest.
Maybe he was just nervous.
Maybe billionaires didn’t smile in public.
The priest turned to her.
“And do you, Isabella Hart, take Alexander Kingston to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
She stole a quick glance at the impossibly handsome man beside her.
Every magazine in the country called him the youngest billionaire CEO.
Powerful.
Untouchable.
Feared.
Yet he had chosen to marry an ordinary woman like her.
She still couldn’t understand why.
“I… I do.”
“Then by the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Polite applause filled the cathedral.
Alexander turned toward her.
For a brief second, Isabella thought she saw warmth in his eyes.
Instead, he leaned close enough for only her to hear.
His lips curved into the faintest smile.
“The game begins now, Mrs. Kingston.”
Her heartbeat quickened.
“What do you mean?”
He stepped back before the cameras could notice the change in his expression.
With one hand around her waist, he smiled for the photographers like the perfect husband.
“Smile.”
The command was barely above a whisper.
“Everyone is watching.”
Confused, Isabella forced a smile.
The cameras flashed.
Guests applauded.
The world’s newest billionaire couple looked deeply in love.
Only Alexander knew the truth.
⸻
That evening, the black limousine rolled through the gates of Kingston Manor.
The mansion was breathtaking.
Marble floors.
Crystal chandeliers.
A staircase that looked as though it belonged in a palace.
“This is your home now, ma’am,” the butler said politely.
Isabella smiled.
“Thank you.”
She turned, hoping to share the moment with her husband.
Alexander was already walking upstairs.
Without waiting for her.
She hurried after him.
“Alexander…”
He stopped outside a large wooden door.
When he turned around, the warmth he had shown the cameras had disappeared completely.
His face became ice.
“You’ll sleep in the room across the hall.”
She frowned.
“Our wedding night…”
“There won’t be one.”
The words struck harder than a slap.
“I don’t understand.”
“You don’t have to.”
He opened the door to his bedroom.
“Oh, and one more thing…”
His eyes locked onto hers.
“I didn’t marry you because I love you.”
Silence.
“I married you because your family owes me a debt.”
Isabella’s face turned pale.
“My family?”
“They destroyed mine.”
She stared at him in disbelief.
“You’re mistaken. We don’t even know each other.”
Alexander let out a cold laugh.
“That’s exactly what your father wanted me to believe.”
Before she could ask another question, he shut the bedroom door in her face.
The loud bang echoed through the empty hallway.
Tears gathered in Isabella’s eyes.
She had dreamed of marrying the man every woman admired.
Instead, she had married a stranger who looked at her with hatred.
Standing alone in the silent mansion, she whispered to herself,
“What have I gotten myself into?”
Behind the closed bedroom door, Alexander opened an old, worn photograph.
A smiling couple.
His parents.
He stared at it for a long moment before speaking into the silence.
“I’ve finally married his daughter.”
His jaw tightened.
“And now…”
He slowly closed the photo album.
“…I’ll make her pay.”
